Some people have more experience than others when it comes to children with disabilities. There are lots of types of disabilities. There are mental, physical, and learning disabilities. Scientists have found out a lot of information for people to learn and know about when it comes to the causes of the disabilities. There are people out in the world that know what a disability is like and there are also people who do not know what it is like to have or live with a person that has a disability. I am one of the many people in the world that has first hand experience with knowing someone and having a disability.
I know lots of people that have a disability and I have seen the effects that the person’s disability has on the family. I also know

There are many ways in which I wish people would respond to me. Some people respond and some people do not respond in the following ways. Some people try to either relate to you or they know what it is like for me. Some people do not care that I have a disability and there are others that do not know how to respond to my disability. Lastly, some people are way too sympathetic of my disability; they smother me. I would want people to respond to me with having a disability by treating me like as if I do not have a disability. I would want them to be kind but understanding of my disability. I would want the person to not be too curious because there are some things that I do not like to discuss or tell people about. If the person does not get my disability and they do not care, I do not want that person to try to pretend that they get or understand my disability. I would want the person to understand that my disability and all other disabilities can be challenging to me. I do not want the person to be judgmental or to try to put their bad experience on me if they had a bad experience for dealing with a person that has a disability. Lastly, I would want people to know that they are varying levels of each disability. For me personally I am on the very top of the functioning for Autism. There are some ways and …show more content…
I know that there are certain accommodations that can help an individual when they are in school. If a student requests accommodations then the teacher has to comply with the request for accommodation since it is a law and legal action can happen. The teacher and the school will be in a lot of trouble if they do not comply with the person requesting the accommodations. I know that buildings have to be built to code for people that cannot walk or have trouble walking and using the restrooms. I know that hallways and doorways have to be a certain width so that a wheel chair can fit through. There has to be toilets that people in wheel chairs or who cannot go to the restroom like everyone else in public places and buildings. Students must receive the same material as everybody else does in the classroom along with the same directions or any extra information that everyone else receives. People with disabilities have the right to be educated. There are certain circumstances in which information can be modified if it will help the student to succeed in their education career; as long as it is reasonable. The current system for people with disabilities is pretty good but there are a few parts that need to be changed or enforced more so. I know that these rules and
The human race is rather ignorant. We give a label to people that we think are challenged because they are not like the majority. The people that do label, are the ones who are truly blind or deaf. They see nothing, they hear nothing except what they want to hear or what they think they want to hear or see. For you see the "handicapped" can do things that non-handicapped can not. If one really thinks about it, they are not handicapped. If any one is handicapped it is the
Disability in our day in age is seen as being worse than death. People with disabilities should not feel like they don 't belong. They are just like everyone else and want to be treated like everyone else. Many without disabilities think that it can be contagious and stray to even look at people with disability. This is not the case for it 's not contagious and one should not be seen as a different person just because of their disability. They didn 't choose that life and shouldn 't be mistreated for what they are. “People with disability should be treated equally to everyone else.”
They are human beings determined to make something good in their lives. Across the world, people with disabilities have poorer health outcomes, lower education achievements, less economic participation and higher rates of poverty than people without
People with disabilities are seen as someone who cannot live a normal life because they cannot do what other people can do. I believe that Kathie Snow calls her company Disability is Natural because disability is a natural part of life that does not lessen the right of individuals with disabilities to enjoy the opportunity to live in our society. Disability is a normal part of life. The way we view disabilities can change when we can see that disability is a natural part of
My life would have to change drastically if I had any kind of disability. I live in a house with my parents and siblings, and I commute to university by driving my car. Even though I live with people, I am used to being independent throughout my day. For example, I wake up on my own usually around 10 am and get ready for my day the same way on the weekdays. First, I go to the restroom and wash my face and brush my teeth and then I pick out the outfit I want to wear that day and then put on a tiny bit of makeup. Finally, I go downstairs to the kitchen, since my house is three levels with my room being on the top level, and prepare myself a bowl of cereal and a cup of coffee. I do all this with little to no interaction with my mom, who is usually
The people with disabilities are portrayed as hardworking. They have people surrounding them that are accepting and encourage them to do their best. The support helps them build up courage to overcome their disability. It can take years, but the effort will not be

A lot of the times a child has a disability they are treated completely different from those who
Disability is defined as a long term condition that restricts an individual’s daily activities (Government of Western Australia Department of Communities, n.d.). A disability can be identified in numerous types which are physical, sensory neurological and psychiatric. Due to the assistance with appropriate aids and services, the restrictions experienced by individuals with a disability may be overcome. However, the ways society perceives disability may have a significant impact on individuals living with it and also families around them. Therefore, the aim of this essay is to reflect on the social construction of disability through examining the social model of disability and how it may impact on the lives of people living with disability.
The first thought that crosses the mind of an able-bodied individual upon seeing a disabled person will undoubtedly pertain to their disability. This is for the most part because that is the first thing that a person would notice, as it could be perceived from a distance. However, due to the way that disability is portrayed in the media, and in our minds, your analysis of a disabled person rarely proceeds beyond that initial observation. This is the underlying problem behind why disabled people feel so under appreciated and discriminated against. Society compartmentalizes, and in doing so places the disabled in an entirely different category than fully able human beings. This is the underlying theme in the essays “Disability” by Nancy Mairs, “Why the Able-Bodied Just Don’t Get it” by Andre Dubus, and “Should I Have Been Killed at Birth?” by Harriet Johnson.
In middle school I was diagnosed with a disability with the way I expressed myself through writing. Ever since, I have gained multiple values and learned several lessons about self confidence. I was taught to push past my limits, in order to be successful in reaching my goals along with my dreams. Today I am a senior in high school who was once thought to struggle, but was able to succeed beyond expectations. To some, a disability may seem like a setback from achieving goals, but to me I used it as a challenge for myself. I accepted myself for who I was and looked at my disability as a unique trait of mine. I was able to provide a message to others that anything you set your mind to is possible with dedication and hard work. It might take
Living my life with a brother with disabilities has never been easy. It has been difficult throughout my life watching him grow up and encounter more and more struggles in life because of his disabilities. Our biggest question throughout the years, though, has been what our plan will be for him later in life. How will he live his life as an adult? Will he work? Where will he live? Will he have friends? How happy can he be? People with children with disabilities have to explain, “How do people with disabilities really fit into American society”? It’s not just families discussing this question; experts as well are debating this unknown by looking at the same questions I mentioned before. Looking at where disabled people are living, whether they are working, and the relationships they have with other people are ways to understand how disabled people fit into American society. This topic should not only matter to people close to disabled people, but to everyone. In some way, every one of us is affected by this topic; we want everyone in our family to lead “successful” lives (have a job/have somewhere to live). The same goes for families with people with disabilities.
I think that people with disabilities should be given equal importance and rights as others to live a successful and happy life. They just need a little help and assistance in order to perform daily living tasks and live a successful life. I have a great respect for my elders, family, relatives and all other people in the society. I always interact with them in a calm and polite manner and talk to them with a dignity. I always help others when they need a help. In my culture, we are taught to respect and treat others the way we want to be treated despite of their religion, color, caste, physical
Disability: Any person who has a mental or physical deterioration that initially limits one or more major everyday life activities. Millions of people all over the world, are faced with discrimination, the con of being unprotected by the law, and are not able to participate in the human rights everyone is meant to have. For hundreds of years, humans with disabilities are constantly referred to as different, retarded, or weird. They have been stripped of their basic human rights; born free and are equal in dignity and rights, have the right to life, shall not be a victim of torture or cruelty, right to own property, free in opinion and expression, freedom of taking part in government, right in general education, and right of employment opportunities. Once the 20th century
People with disabilities are still people, they are people with hearts and they are actual physical beings; people with disabilities do their best to live every day to their fullest, yet that is still not enough for others. I feel like as a whole, humans are generally uncomfortable with people who have disabilities. Let’s think of it this way, people live their life every day in their normal lives and then they come across a person with a disability and suddenly their life is interrupted, like it is such a barrier in their flow of life to come across someone different from themselves.
