Every year on Halloween; my favorite holiday, I had a very special dinner party. It looks like it was that time of the year again. So I pulled out my phone book and decided to invite a couple of people over. After putting lots of thought into it, I decided to invite three people: Jesse Berst, Molly Masland, and Julia Walker. Now these three people aren’t just any three people. They all have something in common; they know about about online shopping. They are all some type of reporter and have written articles about online shopping. Jesse Berst is and he did a report called "Online Shopping, The Safe Way;" which teaches some great tips on how to shop carefully. Molly Masland is also a reporter and her story/article was called "The Dark Side Of Online Shopping;” she shows you some of the things that can go wrong when you shop online. Finally there’s Julia Walker and she is known for her consumer reports. One of her many articles was "Resolving Problems, What To Do When You Get Burned;" her reports tell you what to do and where to go for help if you get ripped off. Yes, online shopping was going to be the theme for this year. I figured since I had to do a paper on it for school and they all wrote stories on online shopping then we would definitely have something to talk about. Not to mention it was an interesting topic that would help me on my paper. So I made some invitations, sent them out and as soon as they all RSVP’d I began to plan everything out.
Well it was almost eight o’clock and here I was running around my house frantic trying to get last minute things finished. For a while there I was going mad trying to decide what we should eat. I figured since they where all respectable people that some fine wine was to ...
... middle of paper ...
...s out there that are keeping an eye out for shady businesses. It is good to tell people that there is something they can do about it, most people do nothing. Everyone should be aware that they should file consumer reports like Julia Walker said. It's the only way to protect you're self after something has happened, and it is also one of the only ways to help you recover what you lost. All in all I felt very satisfied with the dinner. Besides just being a nice evening it was also a very informative one. I learned a lot of things about online shopping that not most people know and that they should know.

Many individuals decide to live their life in solitary; though, only a few choose to live in the wild. The book, Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer vividly paints the adventurous trek Chris McCandless went on. From the friends he made, to the hardships he went through, McCandless is portrayed as a friendly, sociable person despite the fact that he was a vagabond. Other than McCandless, there are even more individuals that have taken the risks to live in the wilderness such as, Jon Krakauer and Everett Ruess. All three of them had both similarities and differences between their own qualities as a person and their journey.
The purpose of this book is to address the issues of seclusion from society. Christopher has plenty of opportunities but chooses to give it all up for life in the wilderness. “I had been granted unusual freedom and responsibility at an early age, for which I should have been grateful in the extreme, but I wasn’t.” p.148. “Ten days and nights of freight trains and hitchhiking bring him to the great white north. No longer poisoned by civilization he flees, and walks alone upon the land to become lost in the wild.” p.163. Christopher spends several years on the road.
It was a very positive beginning to our dinner. Our server seemed to have a sixth sense of when his section was sat and came to us to get a drink order within two minutes of the hostess leaving. He also seemed to really enjoy his job. Since it was her first time at Texas Roadhouse, my friend had a lot of questions about the menu and our server was very patient and answered every one to the best of his ability. We were also approached at our table by a manager who was sincere in her welcome to the restaurant and made us really feel at home while we were there. All in all, there was nothing to complain about when it came to customer service; it was
The main idea is developed when beatrice decides to switch factions, and when she takes the test to see what faction suits her best. When she takes the test it develops the main idea because her results are inconclusive, meaning she fits into more than one faction. Before the test beatrice was sure she was going to pick Abnegation, but after taking the test she starts to think she might want to pick dauntless. When she picks dauntless that develops the main idea because she does what was right for her, even though it was a hard decision to make. The main idea in the book is sometimes you have to do whats right for you. Beatrice does what's right for her, and that develops the main idea.
For decades, stores have opened their doors in the wee hours of the morning on the fabulous Black Friday. In recent years, however, the “early-bird special” concept changed when many major chains from Target to Toys R Us opened on Thanksgiving Day itself, turning the best shopping day of the year into a two-day celebration. This is quite disturbing to some because man...
Christopher Johnson McCandless was a hiker who also went by the name Alexander Supertramp and ventured into the Alaskan wilderness in April 1992 with a bit of food and equipment, hoping to live in isolation. Almost four months later, McCandless's body was found, weighing only 30kg. His story shocked many people and got the attention of magazine writer Jon Krakauer. At First he wrote a small article in the magazine Outside that sparked a lot of controversy with the readers. Since Krakauer got a lot of attention from his article, he decided to do more investigation on McCandless’s journey. Krakauer end up writing the book named Into the Wild and explains with plenty of detail McCandless’s life before his journey to the wilderness. Now a days, most teenager or young adult would never give up the life they have, because the way were so attach to electronics and our surroundings, for Chris McCandless is a different story he gave everything he had in life to go out and live a life in seclusion that caused him his death.
Krakauer first unveils the protagonist’s blatant unpreparedness and over-confidence as Chris embarks on his journey, hitching a ride to Denali Park from local Jim Gallien, an experienced hunter and woodsman. Gallien, alarmed by McCandless’ lack of critical supplies needed for his journey, “trie[s] repeatedly to dissuade him,” even offering to buy the young man proper equipment, to which Chris conceitedly replies, ‘“I’ll be fine with what I’ve got...I won’t run into anything I can’t deal with on my own”’ (Krakauer 5-6). Tragically misled by the notion he possesses both the supplies and knowledge needed to travel into the perilous wild, Chris puts himself at risk before his journey begins. Ignorance regarding the proper provisions, paired with arrogance in not heeding Gallien’s
Point of view is a very important aspect of The Black Cat. The main character tells the story to the reader from his first person point of view. You have a good feel for the story because you have the first person narration. As you read into the story it comes apparent however that the narrator telling the story is not a reliable interpretation of the details around him. You have a good feel for his emotions and the events of the story, but the narrators opinions are so far out that you are forced to wonder just what of the story is the askew interpretation of a madman and what is the reality of the situation. The first person narration of the story plays an integral part in the reader's level of understanding of the main character's madness, as well as the unfolding of plot of the story.
The Friday after Thanksgiving is everything from a bargain hunter’s dream come true to a husband’s worst nightmare. Since the early to mid-sixties it was been given the name “Black Friday.” Black Friday is day where stores around the country open their doors early to welcome the start of the Christmas shopping season. This is the day if you get to the mall by five a.m., you are late and will not find a parking place. It is the same day where you start off by being cussed by a pregnant woman, and end by being beat-up by an elderly lady resembling your grandmother. Much is to be said for the day, and for those whom brave mess.
On a Saturday, my best friend and I had decided to do some grocery shopping. We were on a mission to go into the Dollar Tree for one thing, a basket. We knew the exact aisle in which the baskets were in, so we went in, headed toward the right aisle, and my attention immediately went to the Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas decorations. Luckily, my best friend didn’t let me get distracted there. However, we definitely ended up in the snack aisle which was right next to the baskets. We started grabbing bags of candy, chips, donuts, and juice; basically anything that was junk food and good to enjoy. We left with more than just a basket and wasted a lot more time than what was originally planned. The physical features of the store, the social factor of being with my best friend, and the uplifted mood we created a great shopping
Consumerism has always been a big part of society back in the golden days. In today’s society, the ongoing debate of wants and needs are not justified by an individual’s wealth, but it is rather opinionated by the generalized public. Not only are the consumers getting caught in this mess, but many retailers are being sucked in as well. Retailers, have to stay up to date with the latest trends, to make sure they get their products across. Human identity is no longer determined by how much a person makes an hour, but by the commodities they possess. Consumers are so centralized on the materialistic items, that they forget what is more valuable and important. Unfortunately, the frivolous consumption has taken over the
In a country with it’s fundamentals based on liberty and equality, America has always struggled with those very concepts. Throughout history, Americans have been challenged to make decisions that have oppressed and freed certain groups of people. The political fight for same-sex marriages is a perfect example of this notion. This relation between spouses has created a major controversy that is creating history in our nation. A series of protests, acts and political scandal has finally opened America to discuss a topic that had been in “the closet” for a long time. This discussion asks questions that have caused a visceral reaction in society. Questions such as whether gays and lesbians should marry, and if so, should they be granted the same matrimony rights as heterosexual couples? Should marriage be protected to fit traditional American values? How would these unions affect or contribute to our definition of such a celebrated institution? .
My dad and sister watched television, my mom crocheted, and I worked on my Kinderbuch for German class. As usual, everyone but me fell asleep. At 10:30, we packed all of our things into the back of the Tahoe and pulled around to he front to return the keys.
After we got off the airplane, we rented a car and drove to my Uncle Joe?s house. We finally got there and then we all went out to eat dinner. We went to some Italian restraunt and boy was it good. To this day, I have never tasted anything as good as the Veal Picata I had that day. I ate so much that I could hardly move and once I got back to my uncle?s, I just passed out and went to bed. I had a big and exciting day ahead of me. I was going to Universal Studios and I couldn?t wait.
Now we had to make the long trip back to Mrs. Tina’s house. It was such a long day, and we were extremely tired so we decided to skip dinner. We took showers, put on our pajamas, brushed are teeth, and went to bed. Over the next few days we went to the beach, had picnics in the park, went bike riding and skating, and took a trip to the mall. We had such a fun week, but now it was time to go home. So, we thanked Mrs. Tina and her family for being so generous and welcoming to us. We told them that they would have to come visit us so we could return their kindness they showed us. So, we gave them hugs and kisses and we headed back to Las Vegas.
