Of Mice and Men Dilemma Scarred… Mentally challenged, and fear lead two characters fighting through life, to live the American dream beyond the stereotypes of the everyday man. From the struggles of rape to the death of a puppy, it all becomes clear as the plot thickens between Lennie and George when one become the victim of the other. John Steinbeck's novel, Of Mice and Men, the main character George and his buddy Lenny spent many long days together working on a ranch. Lenny, who was slow in the mind, had George there to take care of him. When Lenny commits the ultimate crime that puts them in danger, this is when George is placed in a situation no friend wants to be in. He has to choose between guilt and honesty, by either to kill his friend Lenny, to be accused as part of the crime, or help Lenny escape and live with that decision for the rest of his life. In the novel Mice and men, John Steinbeck, the main character George is faced with a dilemma, John Steinbeck uses imagery to reveal the dilemma to the reader, and John Steinbeck uses the dilemma to teach the reader a lesson about humanity. By giving descriptive detail puts the reader in the book. It shows the dilemma that a human can come to face in life. George kills Lennie to spare him from painful death at the hands of the mob. “He looked steadily at his right hand that had held the gun” (107, Steinbeck). Gives you an idea about humanity and what some people do when faced with the important decision of life itself. When your mind goes into all directions to make the right decision, yet any decision is based on the plan before it. “How’d you do it?”(107, Steinbeck).
