What is a digital leader? My promise as a Digital leader Leadership to me, is a process of social influence where a person can encourage the help and support of others to maximize their effort in order to accomplish a common goal, hopefully one that is inline with your business objectives. As far as Digital leadership goes it can be described as establishing a clear direction, influencing others and initiating sustainable change through the access of information, technology and digital tactics. It requires a dynamic combination of mindset, behaviors, strategy and skills that are employed to change and/or enhance business culture through the assistance of digital channels. It doesn’t matter what the job title is but the actions characteristics is what is important. An effective digital leader is always aware of corporate goals and knows how their own job responsibilities support them. Digital leaders are focused on exploring how information technology can be used to help an organization become more responsive to their customer needs and ever-changing business requirements.
Successful digital leaders understand how important it is to analyze inbound data and the processes within the company that support it. As well as all the factors outside of the organization that can have an effect on the various environments in which it participates in.
Organizations that value digital leadership, often place value on communication, creativity and a open and willingness to explore new ways that technology and digital information can be used to successfully address business projects, internal projects and key performance indicators. With effective digital leadership, an organization is able to create workflow and business processes that allow new applications, products and services, at the same time maintaining legacy applications and marketing operation at optimal levels. Over the years of working in digital some key traits of a great digital leader that I have found are:
Regularly developing new capabilities
Willingness to experiment

I have acquired an understanding how to transform big data into decisions that improve business performance. But at the same time how to use it to boost individual performance of my team and co-workers. Digital Leadership is less about a single person and more about bringing together a team of power, skill and vision that can collectively start a wave of digital transformation. As a digital leader one of the ways I influence digital change is to find the inspirers, believers, people willing to have a go and test new things. These are the people that already have the mindset of change and are in a position to embrace digital. These people are those who will generate your initial quick wins and spread good news stories. These people will create momentum to help keep moving the transformational process along. Don’t forget them, go out and find them as one of your first key steps, these are your first group of advocates. To be a digital leader you need to not only be aware of each discipline touched by digital within your organization but also excel and set an example to the whole
Leaders benefit from building a team to create and implement change, this is a key theme in the Kotter model of change. This teambuilding engages employees throughout the process. Allowing employees to be a part of the change process gives them the opportunity and trust to be creative moving toward the future (Cochrane, 2002). Leaders can create opportunity for employees and leaders to dialogue about the change, which can help troubleshoot the process. Leaders who engage employees throughout the organization from various levels of the organization will receive perspectives from the entire organization helping them make better-informed decisions. Employees want to be allowed the opportunity to help an organization they believe in, in a way that enhances the
This paper first explains the three articles covered by this study to allow the reader to be informed about its topics. After reading these explanations one could be better prepared to understand the following comparisons, contrasts, conclusion, and recommendations. The first article is written by researchers Wright and Panley (2010) and discusses some unexpected findings for transformational leadership in non-private organizations. The second article is an outstanding article written by researchers Emery and Baker (2007) which examines the findings of transformational and reward based leaderships on customer service personnel and its effects on customer satisfaction. The third article is an excellent article written by researchers El-Gazzar, Fornaro, and Jacob (2008) which studies the voluntary disclosure of the Reports of Management’s Responsibilities (RMRs) to the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) and its benefits for the related organization.
There are many types of leadership styles and ways in which leaders can influence the people around them and they all have their strengths and opportunities, however it is the behaviors that we encourage in our followers that will ultimately determine their success or failure. By articulating a vision to our team that helps them understand how their role in Social Media, and how these actions contribute to the overall success of the organization. Yuki (2012) stated, “The essences of leadership in organizations is influencing and facilitating individual and collective efforts to accomplish shared objectives. Leaders can improve the performance of a team or organization by influencing the processes that determine performance” (p. 66). We will look at specific real life experience in the creation of a web based Customer/Technical Support Team; analyze the leadership behaviors that were used to implement the goals, the metrics used to measure their progress, and make recommendations as to how those behaviors could have been improved. We will look at some of the effects of the negative behavior and how it affected the team. What could have been done to improve the overall effectiveness of the team and what, if any affect that may have had on the team or organization as a whole.
As our text says, there is no one definitive definition that best encapsulates the true nature of what “leadership” really is. For me, I would define leadership as the ability to influence and share with others the understanding of how something is to be done in order to accomplish a particular goal, task, or objective. Leadership doesn’t necessarily mean “to lead”. As mentioned in our previous class, anyone can be a leader. You don’t have to be in a position of power to display active leadership. Leadership is an ability that we can learn, improve upon, and share as we grow as individuals. Leaders may not all share the same vision and purpose but they all have the power to influence others in the way they choose to act, behave, and make decisions. This is how I see leadership to be based on my own beliefs and experiences.
According to Business Dictionary.com, leadership is defined as the individuals who are the leaders in an organization, regarded collectively. It also can be define as the activity of leading a group of people or an organization or the ability to do this. Leadership involves the establishing of a clear vision, sharing the vision with other so that they will follow willingly, providing the needed information, knowledge, and methods to realize the vision and coordinating and balancing the conflicts interests of all members and stakeholders.
Leadership is being able to direct or guide other people by either your own actions or by actually guiding them into the right direction (Acumen). Inspiration to be a leader might come from many different areas like your family, friends, peers, or even teachers. My inspiration didn’t really occur to me until I started attending college in August 2013. In all actuality I never even thought of how to be a leader until I was in Mrs. Moore’s Perspectives class. I now have a desire to be a great leader, and the inspiration has come from Mrs. Moore, and my family. I am the first to attend college out of my family, so in a away I have already started leading my siblings in the right direction. Being a leader means inspiring others to pursue their dreams, and aspirations and helping throughout the journey to success. Being a leader has nothing with authority or being able to tell other what, and how to do things, it’s about having people who look up to you and want to follow your example.
Leaders are the individuals who help to create options and opportunities. They help in identifying the choices and solve the problems. They build commitment and coalitions. Leaders do this by inspiring others and working along with them to construct the shared vision of the possibilities and commitments of a better group, organization or community. They engage the followers in such a way that most of the followers become leaders in their own right. The variety of demands of an increasingly complex world very often require that leadership be shared by most of the members of an organization, in appropriate ways for different situations. A leader is the on...
Many Scholars characterize the core qualities and skills necessary for an effective leader. Useem defines leadership as “Creating a vision and translating that vision into actions”. Historically, an effective leader was assumed to be exceptionally knowledgeable, authoritative, and dominate. Those leaders applied the command and control method to lead an organization. With the passage of time, this definition has been changed. The modern definition of an effective leader is honest, courageous, trustworthy, inspirational, and result-oriented. Today’s leaders create shared values and vision, and empower others to achieve their targets.
What is leadership? Leadership is defined as a process by which a individual will influence others to obtain goals. Leaders will guide, direct motivate, or inspire others. Leadership is defined by not only traits but actions as well. Leaders are inspirational, trustworthy and charismatic. Many people may think a manger is leader. Although leadership and management go hand in hand, they are not the same. Everyone has their own beliefs about what characteristics an effective leader should have. To me, communication skills, critical thinking skills, and having a vision are few characteristics of becoming an effective leader. A leader is not only born, but made. Some are born as leaders or some are made to be leaders.
Many people believe that leadership is simply being the first, biggest or most powerful. Leadership in organizations has a different and more meaningful definition. A leader is someone who sets direction in an effort or task and influences or motivates people to follow that direction. The power point presentation explains leadership is the influence that particular individuals exert on the goal achievement of others in an organizational context.
According to Shockley and Zalabak (2009) "Leadership is a process of guiding individuals, groups, and entire organization in establishing goals and sustaining action to support goals.Leadership is like mapping out where you need to go to win". A Leader is a person who has a strong personality and who has an ability to manage people and work. He is also the person who is able to direct people .Usually a leaders has a lot of attributes that
Leadership is both a research area and a practical skill, regarding the ability of an individual or organization to "lead" or guide other individuals, teams, or entire organizations. Leadersip can not definied by just one word but by action. I have seen development within myself through my volunteer service. Leadership is both a research area and a practical opportunity to share the ability gained as a individual, also through my organizations to lead or guide other individual team members who have a common goal. Volunteering in the church organizations matches my need to be of service to others. While volunteer at Fallbrook church I in return have been served I have been guided, nurtured, and challenge through the process. I have been
Many people associate leadership with a specific job title or form of power within an organization. However, through personal experience, I have concluded that leadership can come in many forms and position as well as from multiple sources of roles and job titles both with and without power. Based on the definition of leadership, anyone can be considered a leader as long as they have the ability to influence people to achieve a particular result or goal which benefits the organization or group as a whole. Individuals with a secure sense of self and understanding, acceptance of diversity within an organization tend to be the strongest leaders that not only make others want to follow, but they also encourage other leaders to gravitate to their
Leaders of the future will be faced with many challenges. As the world changes, we must adapt the ways in which we face these challenges, and in turn grow as leaders. A leader is not merely someone which commands a group or organization. A good leader exhibits the ability to take an average team of individuals and achieve greatness. Leadership is not supervision or leading. It is the ability to inspire or influence others towards the end goal. As Barendsen and Gardner stated (2006), “the best leaders are individuals who, in their work, exhibit three distinct meanings of good: (1) an excellent technical and professional quality and competence, (2) an ethical orientation, and (3) a completely engaged sense of fulfillment and meaningfulness” (p. 266). Good leaders must utilize all of these traits in order to meet the challenges of the future. A few emerging challenges that future
