Whether you’re watching the words, or looking at the big screen, The Outsiders has many differences. The Outsiders is about a gang called the Greasers, who has rivals with the “popular” group, the SOCs. Teenage boys, Ponyboy and Johnny have a fight with the SOCs and kills a boy. Ponyboy and Johnny are forced to go into hiding. Major differences include Dally’s death, the Curtis boy’s relationship, and the hearing for Ponyboy.
The Outsiders was a great book, and the movie was a great way to wrap everything up. There were some similarities, but a lot more differences. When I watched the movie, I could see how the characters in the movie didn't exactly match how they were portrayed in the book. My imagination was on a different track than what I saw in the movie. In my next paragraph I will explain the character differences in the book and the movie.
Book or movie? This seems to be a pretty common debate, especially seeing there are so many differences between the two. Ranging from the beginning of the story to the visual aspects of the characters as compared to their descriptions, the differences are quite apparent. In The Outsiders there are two rival gangs, one from the lower class, who are the Greasers and their rivals are from the upper class, they are the Socials. The story takes place in the mid 1960’s in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The story is set in a large town in the United States, The east side of the town is where the Greasers live and the west side is where the Socs live. You might remember it from the popular quote, "Stay Gold". Today it is mostly read in middle school classrooms. The Outsiders was published by S.E Hinton in 1967 when she was a teenager. The main focus throughout the story is the feud between two gangs: The Socials (Socs) and the Greasers. "We're poorer than the Socs and the middle class. I reckon we're wilder too". The whole book is written in Ponyboy Curtis's point of view. So, we are hearing the story through a Greaser's perspective. It is often difficult to make a connection with a character over the big screen. You miss out on scenes that did not make it into the movie, some that were are not emphasized like they should have been, and some characters were portrayed wrongly.

The Outsiders is about the life of a 14-year-old boy. The book tells the story of Ponyboy “Curtis” and his struggles with right and wrong in a society in which he believes that he is an outsider. Ponyboy and his two brothers, Darrel (Darry), who is 20, and Sodapop, who is 16, have recently lost their parents in an automobile accident. Pony and Soda are allowed to stay under Darry's guardianship as long as they all behave themselves. The boys are greasers, a class term that refers to the young men on the East Side, the poor side of town. The greasers' rivals are the Socs, short for Socials, who are the "West-side rich kids."
This book showed the struggle between rich and poor. The two main groups of the story were the Socs and the greasers. The Socs are in the upper class while the greasers are the poor ones that dislike the Socs because they have more money, better cars, and act like they are better than the greasers. The Outsiders is a good story by S.E. Hinton that shows the struggles of growing up Hinton did a fine job with the character development, the plot, and the theme with a few flaws.
“Stay gold, Ponyboy, stay gold”. There is a great deal of meaning that goes with that quote. It means to stay innocent and youthful. This story takes place in a small town in Oklahoma called Windrixville. There are two gangs that are constantly fighting. A 14 year old boy named Ponyboy is caught within between a gang rivalry(greasers vs. socs). Ponyboy lives with his two older brothers named Sodapop and Darry, since their parents passed away. Ponyboys best friend is a boy named Johnny, who feels like he is not cared about or loved. The family friends of ponyboys family are two people who are in the gang, their names are two-bit and dally. These two gangs may have their differences, nevertheless ponyboys story helps us realize that in the end they are still people.
In the book The Outsiders their are two different gangs the Socs and the Greasers. These gangs are rivals the gangs can be good and bad. They watch out for each other and are good friends. The downside is when they have gang fights thier can be damage and it can cause the police a lot of trouble. Inside of gangs their are smaller gangs like Ponyboy’s group or the Shephard gang. There are no adults in the gangs. These gangs have rumbles but it never seems to change anything. The greasers are on the bottom the Socs are on top. Gangs really are the only thing some of these kids have.

The greasers are the kids with little money, who feel a lot, and are tough. The socs are rich kids with not enough emotions and they never get in trouble. The Greasers have it worse because they have broken families, are always getting jumped by the socs, and are expected to steal and be rude because of their backgrounds.
