The book and movie ,“The Giver”, have many similarities and differences. It is about a community where everyone is the same. The main character, Jonas, got picked to be the receiver at the ceremony of Twelves. Jonas is a very brave young man, and very respectful. He tries to help everyone as much as he can, especially Fiona, whenever they needed it. The Giver gives Jonas a lot of memories. Jonas had his first memory, that he was going down the sled. He can't stand the memories anymore, so that caused him to risk his life by running away from the community and leave his memories there. The book and movie “The Giver” have many differences in imagery, plot, and characterization.
In the book and movie Jonas acts the same.Jonas is very honest and has integrity because he always told the truth for example, “He knew it all, that it was only all right but necessary to tell all the dream.” Also Jonas has a lot of courage, Jonas is very brave. When he was running away with Gabriel and transmitted memories of snow keeping some for himself. Together they became cold, and when the planes were gone they would shiver

holding each other until sleep came again. On the other hand in the movie Jonas was raised very well and he was respectful for example when he didn't want Fiona to get hurt, he rushed to the transmitter for her so that she was okay. The book and movie were for jonas’s first memory was the same except when he saw the log cabins.
Jonas's first memory was that Jonas transmitted in the book was the sled rides. He began to move down and down farther down the hill. ”Then the sled, with jonas himself upon it, began to move through the snowfall, and he understood instantly that now he was going downhill. No voice made an explanation. The experience itself to him” and “it began to move through the snowfall, and he understood instantly that now he was going downhill.” Moving through the substance on the vehicle called sled, which propelled itself on what he now knew without doubt to be runners. Also in the book Jonas's first memory was also the sled. Jonas grabbed the rope on the sled and went down the hill until he saw log cabins then he stopped and rushed to the transmission
room. There are many different and similar things about the plot in the story and movie. The first thing different is that jonas first color that he saw was red when he saw fiona's hair he was starting to see the color red in the book. In fact in the movie Jonas saw yellow for the first time when he saw the sled. In a matter of fact at the ceremony of Twelves, Fiona got chosen to be the caretaker of the old on an outside stage, as to the movie in the ceremony of Seventeen inside on the stage Fiona got chosen to be the nurturer just for the night shift though because Jonas was there in the morning to pick up gabe. In conclusion the book and movie “The Giver,” the movie had many differences, compared to the book. The director of the book tried to get it similar to the book. The characters in the story were way younger that the characters in the movie, they would look like as I imagined them as. The filmmakers did do a good job of making the movie.the movie is really good because it gives out way more information, but the book is even better because you actually visualize everything in your head. Kids should really read this book because it is amazing even for young teenagers and even adults.
Have you ever read a book and watched its movie and thought that the movie was nothing like the book? The Giver’s story was not adapted well onto the big screen. There were many changes that were made, some of which completely altered the whole course of the storyline. For example, Fiona working at the Nurturing Center instead the House of the Old and the characters taking injections instead of pills also changed the way Jonas acted especially towards Fiona throughout the entire movie Some of the many trivial changes that were made did not affect the movie as much.
“...Jonas becomes the Reciever of Memories shared by only one other…” (Lowry,4). The author uses allusion throught the entire book almost through evryone and everything. The young boy that Jonas’s family was looking over was named Gabriel. In a biblical view his name is one of god’s messengers and in the end of the giver when Jonas takes Gabe with him to find another community unlike theirs they find it together. In a hebrew relation Jonas is another version of Jonah which is the son of truth were in his community he does not like how his father lied and said that the twin was going to released when he had killed the child. He also wants the community to know the truth of the past and not hide things. The Giver is the book is portrayed as God since he is the presnter to all life. Elsewhere is heaven in the novel when the elderly and the yo...
He then ran into a wall which he realized was fake and everything in his life was just people acting. He found the door and was told that it was a bad society, and the utopia that he lived in was everything that someone could ask for. Also in The Giver, Jonas wanted to leave. He wanted to go elsewhere. He did not like the utopia he lived in, to him it was not perfect.
At the end of “The Giver” Jonas finds a small village in elsewhere, however, many people are skeptical that this is true.. On page 166 of “The Giver” the author wrote, “Using his final strength, and a special knowledge that was deep inside him, Jonas found the sled that was waiting for him on top of the hill.” Some people believe that he actually found the sled and others believe that he was hallucinating because he was freezing to death in the cold. I believe that Jonas was hallucinating from the cold because it seems more practical. My justifications for this belief are first, his state of being, second, it can be hypothesized from the quote, “His entire concentration now had to be on moving his feet, warming Gabriel and himself, and going forward” which is found on page 165, and finally this theory could be proven by looking at the descriptions of the memories given to him versus what
The Giver is about a boy named Jonas who was chosen to be the community’s next Receiver of Memory. He lived in a community where everything was chosen for the citizens, and everything was perfect. During Jonas' training, he realized that the community was missing something and that there was more in the world. Jonas wanted everybody to know that. The Giver book was then made into a movie. Though the two were based with the same story plot, there are three important differences that results with two different takes on the same story. The three main differences between the book and the movie are Asher and Fiona's Assignments, the similarity all Receivers had, and the Chief Elder's role.
Jonas decides to leave and change the lives of his people so that they can experience the truth. “The Giver rubbed Jonas’s hunched shoulders… We’ll make a plan” (155). Their plan involves leaving sameness and heading to Elsewhere, where Jonas knows the memories can be released to the people. He has a connection with Gabe, a special child who has experienced the memories, unlike the rest of the community. Jonas has a strong love for Gabe, and he longs to give him a better life. “We’re almost there, Gabriel” (178). Even with a sprained ankle, Jonas keeps pushing forward because he wants everyone to experience what The Giver has given him. He wants them to have a life where the truth is exposed. His determination allows him to make a change for a greater future in his community. This proves that Jonas has the strength to change his community for the
Gently he patted Gabriel's back... He was not aware of giving the memory; but suddenly he realized that it was becoming dimmer, that it was sliding through his hand into the being of the new child… He wondered, though, if he should confess to The Giver that he had given a memory away… He decided not to tell.” (Page 115-117) Jonas didn't lie very often even though he was permitted to do so.
I can assure you that reading this book will make you take valuable lessons with you. Jonas is a really wise, curious and a positive 12 year old boy. I think we should learn to be like him more because in the story Jonas shows how he follows what he thinks is right and not what the society thinks. This helps portray the importance of individuality.
Jonas is also very determined, committing to a task fully when he believes in it and willing to risk his own life for the sake of the people he loves. Although as a result of his training Jonas possesses more wisdom than almost anyone else in his community, he is still very young and knows little about life in the community itself.
As December approaches Jonas feels apprehensive because this year his group will be given their assignments (Lowry 9). He is chosen as the receiver of memory. While this position holds high honor it is also a painful load to hold. Jonas will hold all memories of the past. Receiving memories is not like watching a movie, as Jonas soon expe...
The Giver is actually one of my all-time favorite books, so I’ve looked into why she left the book so inconclusive in the past. The Giver is basically about a boy named Jonas who lives in a perfect society. He lives in a household with his two parents and his little sister Lilly. When he becomes a 12, he goes through a huge ceremony and all the elders assign them their jobs. In this community, there is no lying, stealing, racism, pain, sunlight or color. Jonas was chosen to be The Receiver, and he didn’t know what to do because this job was such a big deal. Jonas then goes through training with the current Receiver, who is now The Giver. Training consists of The Giver passing down the memories from when the community was not what it is today. Memories that are passed down are things that are normal to us. Memories of sun, snow, pain, and sorrow.
In the book, The Giver, Jonas is portrayed as a kind, curious and rebellious individual with a keen sense of awareness. The beginning chapters revealed Jonas as a very naive and compliant person, similar to everyone else in his community. Instances, when he was a child and got reprimanded for small misunderstandings, made him like this. However, throughout the book, Jonas has grown into an independent and determined person, someone who wants to make a change. Jonas finds new strengths in his character which forms him into someone spectacular and distinctive.
However, as Jason’s training teaches him, this is not the case. His teacher, the Receiver of Memory, who tells Jonas to call him the Giver, transmits memories of the distant past to him. It is through these memories that Jonas discovers the meaning of snow, war, pain and love. The Giver tells him that these things existed before the people chose to go to “Sameness”. Ever since, they gave up those things in exchange for a world free of discrimination, crime and pain. However, realising the importance of wisdom gained through experience, they chose the Receiver to bear the burden of all the memories for them. Overwhelmed by all this information and being forbidden to share it with anyone, Jonas grows increasingly embittered against hi...
First, At the beginning of the book Jonas is honest. Jonas honestly told his dream about Fiona and him wanting to bathe her. He always tells the truth because it is expected in the community. Jonas also honestly went up to the speaker and gave the apple back to them after he had taken it when the apple had
Movie The Giver, directed by Phillip Noyce, is based on Lois Lowry’s book and tells the story how the perfect world would look like. Where everyone is happy, safe, and there is no pain. Jonas is the main character and I will be analyzing how his values and beliefs changes though the movie. This movie is interesting because everyone lives within boundaries where past memory does exist just for the chosen ones. Jonas is one of those people who learns past wisdom and suffers while trying to understand what is the right thing to do.
