The Lightning Thief
Percy Jackson is a very interesting character but he’s more interesting when they keep some his great characteristics in the movie. There are many differences along with similarities in the comparison between the book and the movie of Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief. One of the major differences between the two was how in the book Luke and Percy never fought for the bolt because Luke took it, but in the movie Luke and Percy have an epic battle for the bolt. A good similarity with the two is that they do a very good job in describing Percy’s background and how they were in the Lotus hotel and got stuck their for hours but realistically was 5 days. I will be discussing and some of the main similarities and differences

for the book and movie and elaborating on each of them. Now I will be talking about the main differences between the book and the movie.
One of the big differences that stood out to me specifically was how Luke and Percy did not even battle each other for the bolt in book but in movie they used the bolt against each other to get it. In the book Luke stole the bolt and gave it to Ares so Percy would fight him. On the other hand, in the movie Luke and Percy brawl it out for the bolt(Rick Riordan). My feelings toward the two not fighting in the book are not good. Them not making the two fight in the book made it less interesting because why would you have Luke give it to someone else so that person can fight Percy. Stunningly they didn’t fight and I was a bit surprised by this by this. Another big difference that I noticed was was how in the book Percy was given three pearls to get out of the underworld but in the movie they must find the three pearls throughout the book. I like the movies interpretation of this because it makes it more interesting for me because it made it more of journey instead of having the pearls given to him. All Percy had to say was “ Where are the pearls that I have been promised.” (Rick Riordan) which wasn’t as interesting has them fighting monsters to get
them. Along with differences there are similarities between the book and movie. One of the similarities between the two is how they keep all of the characteristics for each person the same. They do this by still having Percy’s personality be joking around but knows when it’s time to be serious. Annabeth stays same in the two with her personality being a risk taker and loving the adventures she’s on. Grover's personality is outgoing and just wants to have and he stays same throughout the two. Having the characters stay the same is important to me because if they don’t stay the same it feels like they aren’t who they really are and are less intriguing. Another similarity that stood out to me was when they arrived at the Lotus hotel and were in there for a couple hours and when they came out it was five days (Rick Riordan). This similarity is important because this part in each book and movie made it a big rush for them to get to the underworld before the summer solstice was up and they only had one day after the Lotus hotel event. I am more a movie watcher than a book reader so when I watch a movie then read the book I look to see their similarities and differences and I usually end up liking the movie better than the book. The similarities and differences between these two were very interesting. The difference that upset me the most was Percy and Luke not fighting for the bolt in the movie. The similarity that I thought was most important was them being stuck in the Lotus hotel for a couple hours. As you can see they are many similarities and differences between the book and movie and I decided to share the important ones to me.
The struggle for power relates to the lightning thief because in chapter 20 Percy battles Ares . Percy Jackson stated, “My body thought for me . The water seemed to push me into the air and i capluted over him, slashing as i came down “.I chose this quote because it was the moment that Percy uses his power . “ All that meant was my mom really had been squeezed into nothingness, dissovled into yellow light”.” I was alone. An orphan . I would have to live with … Smelly Gabe?”.
Usually movies try to take the story to a different level or by adding parts or just try to change it to a completely different story. Some of the differences between the movie as to the book are some little and large differences. They might also try taking little parts away that will change how the readers see the story characters. An example of that would be Walter not smoking in the movie (Pg 115). Walter usually smokes because he is stressed or just as a way to relax. Walter also does not get punched by Mam...
Overall, the movie and book have many differences and similarities, some more important than others. The story still is clear without many scenes from the book, but the movie would have more thought in it.
I read Percy Jackson and the lightning thief by Rick Riordan at first I didn’t want to read it but, after being forced to read it by my friend I end up enjoying it. The book is a fantasy/adventure book it talk about Percy a kid who live in new york that has a very important father. His father is a god which makes him a half-blood. After just reading the first few pages I couldn’t put the book it was just amazing book that I bet that you can’t put down either. Its is the first book in a series of many incredible books by Rick Riordan, and you know a book is good if it has a money and of course it does. Also remember the book is always better than the movie.
I have only included what I have to believe are largely important plot gaps and differences in the movie version in comparison to the book one, and so I apologize again if I have missed any other major ones. Forgive me, please.
My original thought when comparing Percy Jackson and the Olympians: the Lightning Thief the movie and Classical mythology was that there would be many more references to the myth of Perceus than any other myth throughout the movie in its entirety. That’s where I was wrong. After watching the movie again and researching the different hero myths my opinion has changed. My new thoughts are that the movie is not influenced by the myth of Perceus any more than other hero myths. The movie ties together many different heroes’ stories and mixes them together to make a wonderful story about a young boy. The movie was based on a book series written by Rick Riordan.
Percy Jackson is a true hero. Imagine if you had the chance to save your mother, but put your own life at risk. When Percy was given this chance, he never even thought about his own life. When he saved the world, he didn't care if he put his own life in immense trouble. When he met his half brother, he stood up for him, not caring if no one liked him after. It is clear that there is no way that Percy Jackson can be thought of anything but a hero, which is what he truly
The novel The Lightning Thief, written by Rick Riordan, tells the story of a 12 year-old boy named Percy Jackson, who struggles with school, bullies, and supernatural powers. The story takes place in modern-day New York and is narrated by Percy Jackson. Percy Jackson lives in an apartment in Manhattan, New York with his mother, Sally Jackson, and his stepfather, (Smelly) Gabe. Percy goes to Yancy Academy, a boarding school, where he shares a dorm with his strange friend, Grover Underwood and puts up with Nancy Bobofit, the bully. Throughout the story, Percy deals with repeating conflict including his struggles with school, bullies, nature, and supernatural powers at work around him, making this story a tense and exciting adventure.
Percy Jackson is the main character in this story, who is a demi god, who mortals are after. His name is short for Perseus and his father is one of the big three gods, Poseidon. He is suffering from dyslexia and ADHD, which could be deliberately added to the character by Riordan, to show he is meant to be a hero, and not to do well in school. This shows that school is not what he is good at, and he is destined to be a hero and save people. The character Grover, who plays Percy’s best friend, parallels a Satyr who is human from the waist up and goat from the waist down and is a companion of wine God, Dionysus, who we later learn, is the camp director for Half-Blood Camp.
When Zeus (God of the sky) symbol of power, his master lightning bolt is stolen, he accuses Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon (God of the sea) of the theft, and gives Percy 14 days to retrieve and return the bolt before he starts a war among the gods that will destroy the universe. The faith of the universe lies in the hands of Percy Jackson.
The first reason of this is because history in the past shows it. One famous individual during the late 1800s affect people in positive ways all across the county because of his achievements, his name was Abraham Lincoln. Abraham used his knowledge and skills to make this country a better place for all of us. The main thing that he did was free the slaves in the south and north. This achievment affected people all across the country. Even though this didn't work out at first it soon came out as a good result for all of us. This man also benefited to the country because of his high achievment until his death. This man served Amercica with great posture and without him we would not be where we are today. Another man in history who benefited from his achievements is The First President of the United States, George Washington. He led our country in the great Revolutionary
The first novel of the series, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief , is where Percy’s Hero’s Journey begins, encompassing the first five stages. The Ordinary World, the first stage, is the introduction of the main hero. “The hero, uneasy, uncomfortable or unaware, is introduced sympathetically so the audience can identify with the situation or dilemma” (Campbell). Percy Jackson, a twelve year old diagnosed with both dyslexia and ADHD living in New York with his loving, over-worked mother and abusive stepfather, begins his story attending a boarding school for “troubled youth” and having a less than spectacular time being the new kid. Despite his good intentions of protecting his only friend Grover from a bully, Percy gets in trouble at school and is pulled aside by one of his teachers, whom is revealed to be the Fury Alecto, one of Hades’s servants in disguise. It is at this point in the story in which the second stage, The Call to Adventure, comes into play. Percy defeats the Fury with the help of a centaur named Chiron, t...
In the movie Percy Jackson and the Olypians, The Lightning Thief, it transforms and modernizes the “ Danaüs, Perseus, and the Gorgon “ with events, hero types and archetypes, and theme development. This essay will tell you about all these subjects and how they change the story.
On one hand, the movie and book are very similar. For example, Percy (from the movie) used his opponents’ strengths against them, just like Theseus did in the text with Corynetes, Sciron, and Pityocamptes. Another example is how in the book, Orpheus goes to the Underworld to get his wife, Eurydice, back from the dead. In the movie, Percy goes to the Underworld to retrieve his mother. Another
Hello friends, in class today, I read chapter two of the book "Percy Jackson And The Olympians: The Lightning Thief". In this chapter, Percy Jackson says that he is getting used to the weird hallucinations happening to him, but they always got over quickly. He thinks that for the rest of the school year, the entire campus was playing some kind of trick on him since they were totally convinced that Mrs. Kerr who was a perky blond woman was their pre-algebra teacher since Christmas, and he had never seen her until she got on their bus at the end of their previous field trip. Because of this, just to check, he would spring a Mrs. Dodds reference, but they would just stare at him as if he were a
