Some people say the “Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief” movie is better than the book because the movie helps your imagination but have they ever not been lazy and just picked up the book? Movies actually ruin your imagination because you don't have to imagine anything, there is an image right smack in your face. The book lets you imagine the story on your own and it is also the original story. There are many reasons why the book is better but three important reasons are that there are no scenes left out, all the characters are all accounted for, and the whole storyline is present. To start with, the movie leaves out what they consider “unimportant,” but the characters compose the story. The movie version of “The Lightning Thief” excludes …show more content…
Ares the god of war. He was in the act with Kronos and Luke. It also excludes Clarisse, Ares’ daughter. She is the reason Percy discovers his water powers. Procrustes the Stretcher is also excluded and he is important because they find the address to D.O.A. Studios a.k.a. the entrance to the underworld in his office. Thus the movie leaves out many characters that to them are “optional,” and without them the story crumbles like a building. In addition, to leaving out characters, the movie substitutes scenes, but they are poor substitutes.
The Toilet Scene is very important to the book, but they removes it from the movie. In the Toilet Scene Percy is getting bullied and has his head almost put in a toilet, but he shoots Clarisse with water and humiliates her. This event leads to the Capture the Flag Scene where they also fight. In this scene Percy is left in the outer part of the field and he gets beat up by the Ares cabin. Then he goes to the water and heals himself with water to recharge. Suddenly a green trident appears above his head. Another scene that magically disappearded from the movie is the Water Bed Scene. In the Water Bed Scene they find the Entrance to D.O.A. Studios which is where Percy's Quest leads to and is all about. To conclude the movie leaves out many scenes and replaces them with less important scenes such as Hydra and Persephone who are not in the …show more content…
book. Finally, the whole storyline is accounted for in the book, whereas in the movie the a lot of the storyline is removed and replaced with less enjoyable and less entertaining ideas.
For example the bulb in the Aunty Em’s Emporium. In the book it says demigods are not allowed to have phones because monsters can track them, but the movie ignored that and changes it so Percy sees Medusa’s reflection through a phone case. In the book Sally gets left behind and then Hades returns her to her home, but in the movie Grover is left behind, which is inaccurate because he is supposed to be Percy’s protector. Also, Grover doesn’t get a searchers licence in the movie which is one of the reasons he goes on the quest in the first place. Another storyline change is that in the movie the pearls are not from the neriad instead the whole mission is about getting pearls from different places. In the movie it says based of the book “Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief” by Rick Riordan As you can see, the book is better because the whole storyline is present which makes it more
interesting. On the other hand, some may say the movie is better for several reasons, but even with those points in mind, the book is still better. One argument is that the movie is easier to enjoy because a book takes forever, but that just shows how lazy people are and a book has more detail plus the excitement lasts longer. Others say the movie lets you imagine better. Well, news flash, you are staring right at a screen that is a motion picture. Picture is the key word because it is a premade image, so you are not doing the imagining. There are several argument or reasons people say the movie is better than the book, but they are invalid. In conclusion, the book is better than the movie. The book is also better because the book is original. Additionally, The book more detailed and it is longer so that means more enjoyment. In conclusion, the book is better because the movie leaves out characters, deletes scenes, and removes most of the storyline. So, what would you choose the book or the movie?
For example, Mama goes to the bank in the movie and is given a hard time about paying her mortgage, but this did not happen in the book. Another major difference is that the school bus scene, where the Logan kids played a trick on the white kids, was not shown in the movie, even though it was an important part of the story. There are some character changes as well. Lillian Jean, Jeremy, R.W, and Melvin are Simms’ in the book, but in the movie they are Kaleb Wallace’s children. However, the main plot difference is how the movie starts in the middle, summarizing everything from the first part of the book very briefly. Additionally, many scenes are switched around and placed out of order. Altogether, the plot and character changes contribute to my unfavorable impression of the
The movie lacks a lot of insight onto the other characters in the book, it mostly focuses on Ponyboy. For example, in the movie there was a lack of detail on characters such as Darry and Sodapop even Dally. Dally was a major character in the book but his death in the movie seemed a bit minor because there wasn’t much detail for viewers to get attached to his character. I felt as if his death was glazed over and easily forgotten in the movie while in the book it was described for at least two pages.
In conclusion, details involving the characters and symbolic meanings to objects are the factors that make the novel better than the movie. Leaving out aspects of the novel limits the viewer’s appreciation for the story. One may favor the film over the novel or vice versa, but that person will not overlook the intense work that went into the making of both. The film and novel have their similarities and differences, but both effectively communicate their meaning to the public.
In the movie, it is told in a third person point of view and the characters look a lot more different than how they do in the book. The movie goes by much quicker than the book. Also Pony goes straight home after the church burns down.
Usually movies try to take the story to a different level or by adding parts or just try to change it to a completely different story. Some of the differences between the movie as to the book are some little and large differences. They might also try taking little parts away that will change how the readers see the story characters. An example of that would be Walter not smoking in the movie (Pg 115). Walter usually smokes because he is stressed or just as a way to relax. Walter also does not get punched by Mam...
I have only included what I have to believe are largely important plot gaps and differences in the movie version in comparison to the book one, and so I apologize again if I have missed any other major ones. Forgive me, please.
Some of the events that were in the book were not shown or did not happen in the movie. These were events like the bank note forgeries and some of the things that Squealer said to them like how he convinced them to let the pigs use the apples and milk in their mash. They did not even mention this event in the story. Other things that they did not even mention in the movie were the Sunday meetings and something they didn’t mention in the book was Napoleon’s addiction to whiskey. One of the main events in the book that was not shown in the movie was the battle where Boxer split his hoof. The only two battles that happened were the Rebellion and the Battle of Cowshed. One event that happened in the movie that did not happen in the book was when Squealer took Mr. Jones’s camera equipment and used it to speak to the animals.
This is the true start to Percy’s quest. He made a few friends in the camp and they agreed to go on this journey with him. Those accompanying him were his protector Grover and Athena’s daughter Annabeth. They also get some helpful tools fro...
“Suspense combines curiosity with fear and pulls them up a rising slope.” - Mason Cooley. These emotions that suspense creates are intended to keep viewers interested and entertained while watching, “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief”, directed by, Chris Columbus. “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” was filled with suspense. The three major elements the director used to generate suspense were conflict, sympathetic attachment to the protagonist and foreshadowing.
Percy Jackson is a true hero. Imagine if you had the chance to save your mother, but put your own life at risk. When Percy was given this chance, he never even thought about his own life. When he saved the world, he didn't care if he put his own life in immense trouble. When he met his half brother, he stood up for him, not caring if no one liked him after. It is clear that there is no way that Percy Jackson can be thought of anything but a hero, which is what he truly
Overall, Riordan uses different mythological characters, to create a modern adaptation on the story of Perseus. Riordan does so in a way that a younger audience could understand and even relate to in this day and age. The main point Riordan is trying to get across, is this idea of heroism, and using children’s imaginations to make this happen. However he doesn’t only use Percy to be portrayed as the hero, he also uses Grover, and also Annabeth who both help Percy along his quest.
Percy Jackson and the lightning thief is a novel written by Rick Riordan published in 2004, and was adapted into a movie, released in 2010. Percy Jackson and the lightning thief focuses on Percy Jackson, a 12 year old boy with Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and dyslexia. Percy discovers near the beginning of the story that Greek mythology is all real, and that he is the son of Poseidon, God of the sea and one of the three most powerful gods.
The book Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone differs from the movie Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in many ways. Most of these differences include characters and scenes. The two ways to discover this Harry Potter adventure are to either read the book or watch the movie. In fact, a person would want to read the book if they wanted the entire perception of the story and all of the information inside; whereas, a person would want to watch the movie if they wanted a rough sketch of the story. The two have dissimilarities but the person choosing to read the book or watch the movie is in charge of what they want to have. That is, the entire story or just a rough sketch of the story.
The first novel of the series, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief , is where Percy’s Hero’s Journey begins, encompassing the first five stages. The Ordinary World, the first stage, is the introduction of the main hero. “The hero, uneasy, uncomfortable or unaware, is introduced sympathetically so the audience can identify with the situation or dilemma” (Campbell). Percy Jackson, a twelve year old diagnosed with both dyslexia and ADHD living in New York with his loving, over-worked mother and abusive stepfather, begins his story attending a boarding school for “troubled youth” and having a less than spectacular time being the new kid. Despite his good intentions of protecting his only friend Grover from a bully, Percy gets in trouble at school and is pulled aside by one of his teachers, whom is revealed to be the Fury Alecto, one of Hades’s servants in disguise. It is at this point in the story in which the second stage, The Call to Adventure, comes into play. Percy defeats the Fury with the help of a centaur named Chiron, t...
There are many differences between the Percy Jackson book and the Percy Jackson movie, so many in fact that if all the differences were listed there would not be enough paper. But that is not what this paper is about. What this is for is to not only contrast, but also compare them. Even though there are a few similarities. For instance, the names of the characters for one, the movie kept the names the same, such as Annabeth, Percy, Grover, Luke and Chiron. Who are some of the main characters.
