Nowadays education is a very useful tool all around the world, it has become an essential and an important necessity of our lives. Teaching and technology has developed in several ways through out the past years. As we become more exposed to advanced technology we start we find it easier to adapt to the new ways of living. Many students relay on the Internet for their research and assignments rather than depending on books or other primary sources. Although many students question the importance of education, they will later find out several uses of each subject they studied. I will now compare how different educational systems have affected both India and Finland.

One difference that I found is that in India the curriculum was confined to “modern”1 subjects such as science and mathematics and subjects like metaphysics and philosophy were considered unnecessary. While on the other hand Finland took another route where they are preparing children for “working life”2, “young people use quite advanced computers. In the past the banks had lots of bank clerks totting up figures.”2 This shows and explains that the working life and the advance in technology changes from generation to generation, this is why its important to always renew the education system, but as we can see from Finland that they changed there education system from a modern system to a work life experience system this shows that they are one step a head from India. Furthermore India’s educational system consists of one more thing, which is that, “Students throughout the country have to learn three languages (namely, English, Hindi and their mother tongue)” , and this contradicts what Finland is doing in their education system as they have decided that “scrapping traditional “teaching by subject” in favor of “teaching by topic.”” This is because the new education system in Finland wants to prepare their students for work experience so that they are to work as soon as they finish their …show more content…
When a student is taught the topics and subjects that they will need in work later on in their life, this will make the students ready and focused as they have been taught all the necessities needed to go further with their dream

In Douglass’ book, he narrates his earliest accounts of being a slave. At a young age, he acknowledges that it was a masters’ prerequisite to “keep their slaves thus ignorant”, reporting he had no true account of his age, and was groomed to believe, “a want of information concerning my own was a source of unhappiness to me even during childhood” (25). This mindset was inbreeded in slaves to use ignorance as control and power. As a child, Douglass is separated from his mother. In the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass written by Frederick Douglass, copyright 2004 by Simon & Schuster, Inc., Douglass faces many challenging hardships that change him. Douglass’s childhood and most of his adult life were spent as a working slave. Throughout his life, he encounters many different slave owners and other slaves who affect his life. In Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Douglass experiences physical, emotional, and social hardships which change him forever.
The Autobiography of Frederick Douglass gives a first person perspective on the life of a slave in the rural south and the city. Frederick Douglass was able to read and think about the evils of slavery and the reasons for its abolishment. Throughout his autobiography Frederick Douglass talks of the many ways a slave and master would be corrupted by the labor system. The master justified his actions through a self-serving religion and a conscience belief that slaves were meant to be in their place. Frederick Douglass noticed that in order to maintain the slaves belief in this system the master had to resort to trickery of a slaves body and mind.
The solution he comes about is changing the curriculum so it can match the modern age. Kessler shows that the class subjects used beforehand are not necessary in the jobs and environment of today and suggests that a new university syllabus that reflects the changes over the years can be the uplift of our generation. The article indicates that the syllabus should be more practical and realistic. It also states that technology, being a huge part of today’s culture, should be integrated in our educational programs. The piece emphasizes that the subjects that are vital are not used, and instead the subjects used for the olden days are the ones being used in a modern generation.
This assignment has discussed two examples of curricula and it has been concluded that the Finnish curriculum is more suited to preparing individuals to life in the modern society. It has been stated that Finnish schools are ‘the schools of civilisation in an information society’ (Sarajala, 2001b) and therefore, they arguably educate and prepare young adults more sufficiently than the schools of England, who simply provide basic foundations for future development after education.

The narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass an american slave is an autobiographical narrative. He expresses his perspective of slavery and the horrific events that was brought along with. The narrative was mainly meant for white northerners to grasp the knowledge of what slavery really was and why it should be extinguished. The fundamental reason why Frederick Douglass didn’t accept slavery was because the negative effect that not only left on the slaves, but also their masters. Douglass knows his audience are christians furthermore, he uses religion and many other key moments in reaching his objective. which is ending slavery once and for all.
Throughout the novel, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Frederick Douglass provides a powerful insight to the world of slavery in the 18th and 19th centuries. After Douglass escaped the reigns of slavery, he became an anti-slavery advocate, educator, politician, and renowned public speaker, traveling abroad and sharing his story, eventually publishing an autobiography in 1845. Douglass makes a firm argument against slavery, emotionally affecting the reader while presenting himself as an ethical, compassionate, and resourceful individual.
The narrative begins by informing the readers that slaves were kept in the dark about crucial issues in their lives such as their dates of births. The slaves, particularly those born in slavery, were not allowed to know such important aspects of their lives as birthdays. For instance, Douglass was not sure of his exact birth date. They were even kept in the dark on the identity of their parents, “I do not recollect ever seeing my mother by the light of day” (Douglass, 10). This implies that the slaves were separated from their biological parents at a tender age, and subjected to harsh living conditions. In America, students are evaluated based on assessments whereas Finland is not confined to any external standardized tests to rank students or schools. “Most teacher feedback to students is in narrative form, emphasizing descriptions of their learning progress and areas for growth.. The focus is on using information to drive learning and problem-solving, rather than punishment.” (Darling-Hammond, Linda). Finland has shown a promising gradation throughout recent decades; reasons for this may be its approach to tests as it focuses on establishing a productive learning state at a young age then advancing into administering actual tests at a later age. According to observations found by the researchers Välijärvi and his team, “ Finland has adopted alternative approaches in education policies to raise student achievement.” (Välijärvi, J. & Malin, A.).
In an age of rapid change due to so many technology and innovative advances, a revolutionary change in the educational system is as vital as what our next energy source is. Education is the most powerful wealth in the world and it demands more attention, and where better to start with than out youth. The school system will soon go out of date due to the information highway and information availability if there isn?t a dramatic change in the way things are run in our domestic institutional facilities. The reason why college was such a success in the 20th century was because books were all of a sudden available to students on university campus. Now with internet, a student could specialize their profession solely with the computer with the click of a button. Something needs to be done to smoothen the rigid gaps and cracks in the school system before the technological pace at which we are advancing decides to bring the whole thing down.

It is noticeable that the system of education is changing from time to time based on financial issues and how the world is growing. In the past, individuals taught the education system from the oldest member of the family to children, and their members were charging fees from the families that sent their children to them. Which meant that education was an important thing in all ages. Nowadays, the education is shaped to an official system run by professional people in governments and many countries invest high amounts towards education which makes evidence of how important it is in our current life. Every country has a different system of education based on their financial stability, government infrastructure and the standard of the government officials.
