“It’s okay. It’s just a dream (The Hunger Game, 2012).” This quotation is spoken by Katniss Everdeen, and it was for soothing her sister after she got dream about participating the hunger game. This quotation shows that the hunger game is scary events to participate. When Tessie Hutchinson got pick from the lottery, she showed her fear and tried to undo it, as well (Jackson, 2016). Although ‘The Hunger Game’ and ‘The Lottery’ differ in the purpose of the ritual tradition and the people who participate the ritual tradition, both of them shows that following blind tradition may lead to the death.

To begin with, first difference between ‘The Hunger Game’ and ‘The Lottery’ is the purpose of the ritual tradition. It is true that both of them follows the ritual tradition. However, they have different purpose to do so. In the movie , the purpose of the hunger game was to atone their previous rebellion and to prevent another one (The Hunger Games, 2012). On the other hand, the purpose of the lottery was to wish for a rich year (Jackson, 2016).
