Individualism and Collectivism- Mexico is aiding to be both individual and collective when it comes to culture. Individualism characteristics include emphasizing individual rewards, goals and often spend little to no time in group decision making. Collectivism is just the opposite, it is “tend to follow the perceived dreams and goals of the group as a matter of duty and obligation” (Candor, 2013 pg. 45)“Mexicans see themselves as extremely independent individuals, and it is essential to honor that, but there is also a strong element of group-dependence in the culture” (Robbins, 2015) They prefer to not do business with “outsiders” instead they strengthen personal bonds by displaying respect to gain loyal business partners. cultures such as Mexico often value pleasure, comfort and self-enjoyment over generosity and kindness. They extend material, financial and social support to friends or family.Uncertainty Avoidance-“Uncertainty avoidance (UA) refers to how cultures socialize members to feel in uncertain, novel, surprising, or extraordinary situations.” (Candor, 2013 pg.100) Mexico rates at the lowest with 42. Low UA cultures are comfortable with the feeling of uncertainty. They also adapt to change easily, less desire to establish rules to dictate behavior and more tolerance for breaking rules. “In these cultures, there is an emotional need for rules, times is money, people have an inner urge to be busy and work hard, precision and punctuality are the norm, innovation may be resisted, security is a crucial element in individual motivation.” (Robbins, 2015) Gender Egalitarianism“Gender egalitarianism deals with the division of roles between men and women in society” (Candor, 2013 pg. 100) Mexico is among the most unequal countries in Latin American. ... what their culture tells them. A person’s culture may tell them that only certain things are socially acceptable, thus, when they exit from those norms they are ostracized and condemned. The social class that a person grows up in, their sexuality, and the gender norms that a particular culture creates all influence the way a person views themselves. The cultures of Hispanic countries place a large weight on social acceptance and abiding by social norms. These cultures are not as open to variances in how people act, unlike some other cultures. The United States of America is a country that promotes individualism, while other countries, especially Hispanic ones, tend to emphasize being part of a group. Human beings are naturally social creatures who need to communicate with other people, however, when they are ostracized by the group they begin to keep to themselves.
The United States has no more important foreign relation ship than that of which it enjoys with Mexico, and vice versa. These two countries share interwoven societies and economies. Yet, there are some vast differences in which these two countries are run. There are also many similarities, which we must take into account. Both Democratic Governments have similar structures, containing a legislative, judicial, and executive branch. Yet, these structures are very different internally, containing specific duties that the other country’s branch may not have.
I not only had the influences of the Mexican culture, I was able to experience the good old fashioned American family values as well. My mother was the heart of the family. She was the one who cooked, cleaned and cared for her children full time. My father was generally the one in charge and took care of many of the decision making scenarios.
If one were to visit different countries and societies throughout the world, they may notice the many differences and similarities each region shares. This makes the world a very unique place because there is constant change and diversity everywhere we look, no matter the distance traveled. A prime example of this would be the similarities and differences between the United States of America and Mexico. Although the two are neighboring countries, there is a great deal of diversity amongst them that deserve a thorough examination.
The way of behaving or thinking, beliefs, custom, or arts in a particular society is known as culture. There are many different cultures in todays society, however some parts are alike while other parts are more diverse. American culture versus Hispanic culture has some similarities and differences. Whether its food, religion, language, politics, marriages, sports, family, hobbies, or technology; Americans share some of the same things as Hispanics.
Americans and Mexicans perceive masculinity and feminism differently. Some examples in Mexico would be that females tend to stay at home and men tend to be more familiar with labor. In the United States women are used to working for themselves and learning how to save and earn their own money same as men do. Traditionally Mexican men are to be independent and dominant and Mexican women are more dependent and submissive. Americans play the same role whether they 're women or men. Another way how these two countries differ is in education. Young teenage hispanics usually stop going to school or don 't go at all. They normally get taught to work at young age while in the United States teenagers continue their education, it 's rare for one to drop out. They are more successful in life.
United States and Mexico has a lot of differences and similarities between the two cultures. One of the biggest problems with Mexico’s obesity rates comes from their “traditional high calorie foods that are fatty and fried.” (Grillo, I. 2009, August 29). Mexico consumes more “Coca Cola products than anywhere else in world. There are a total of 635 eight ounces a bottle per person each year.” (Grillo, I. 2009, August 29). Most citizens in Mexico said that “in many villages...
Child rearing and family structure within the Hispanic culture is noticeably different than what is present in the mainstream Western culture of today. One apparent difference is in gender roles. There exists a vastly different expectation in Hispanic culture for males and females. The male is considered to be the independent breadwinner, and the head of the household. Accordingly, the female role is one of submission and provider of childcare. In contrast, it is more than acceptable in Western culture for a female to maintain a non-traditional role. Hispanic culture additionally differs from Western culture in the traditional makeup of the family. Within Hispanic culture the extended family plays a huge role
When we hear discussions or read articles about drug wars, killings, and illegal immigration into the United States, many of us immediately think of Mexico. As a nation, Mexico is a much greater country than these commonly referred to issues. Mexico is a country with a broad history, deep family culture, and an economy fueled by oil and tourism. The United States Department of State (USDS) offers a broad range of information on countries outside the US, including Mexico. I found a wealth of information about Mexico through the USDS Background Note provided on their website located at www.state.gov. I will outline for you the key information found in this report, and others, related to the Mexican economy, culture, and more.
The idea that a woman’s job is to be a wife and mother is old-fashioned, but not completely out of style. Though these roles require a great deal of talent, resilience, patience, love, and strength, to name a few, they are often underestimated or depicted as simple. Especially in modern times, many women in the United States who stay home to raise a family are viewed as anti-feminists, whereas women in Latin America are not criticized for similar actions. In recent decades, more Latin American women have started to break the mold, daring to be both sexy, and successful in the workforce, while remaining pillars of domestic life.
Comparing the past to the present, one of the things that have not changed in the economy is the people’s love for money. Lots of money. There have been many attempts to further increase the amount of money that an economy or an individual can gain. Whether this is through ideas like welfare state where the government supports its people by providing things such as financial support or individualistic ideas like pursuing your own self-interest. The source provided wants all of us to believe that by supporting the ideologies of collectivism through welfare state, it will only result with us depending on the government instead of striving for our own success. The statement from the source, “The welfare state arose out of a misguided desire to
To begin, the Mexican culture is very conservative. The American culture is the complete opposite.
...an-American culture has differences from American. Mexican-Americans are very family-orientated so much that they identify themselves as familial instead of individualized or spiritual as other cultures do. The culture has changed over time and is receiving less opposition from Americans as they have in the past. Immigration demographics can be used to see how America is becoming more homogenous accepting Mexican-Americans and eliminating discrimination because of ethnicity. Selena gave great insight into her culture and created some understanding on the differences between Mexican-American and my culture. Knowing these differences will create a more successful interaction any potential person from a Mexican-American culture and myself.

The ethnic- Mexican experience has changed over the years as American has progressed through certain period of times, e.g., the modernity and transformation of the southwest in the late 19th and early 20th century, the labor demands and shifting of U.S. immigration policy in the 20th century, and the Chicano Civil Rights Movement. Through these events Mexican Americans have established and shaped their culture, in order, to negotiate these precarious social and historical circumstances. Throughout the ethnic Mexicans cultural history in the United States, conflict and contradiction has played a key role in shaping their modalities of life. Beginning in the late 20th century and early 21st century ethnic Mexicans have come under distress from the force of globalization. Globalization has followed the trends of conflict and contradiction forcing ethnic Mexicans to adjust their culture and combat this force. While Mexican Americans are in the struggle against globalization and the impact it has had on their lives, e.g., unemployment more common, wages below the poverty line, globalization has had a larger impact on their motherland having devastating affects unlike anything in history.
