The story of Harrison Bergeron is about how Harrison rebels against the government that controls his society. The message that I think Vonnegut is trying to send is that do not let people control who you are and do not let people stop you from being yourself. There were also similarities and differences between the Icarus and Harrison stories. My reasoning to believe one of the messages Vonnegut is trying to send that you shouldn't let people stop you from being is on page 25 lines 229-234 it says “A moment passed, and then a ballerina arose, swaying like a willow. Harrison plucked the mental handicap from her ear, snapped off her physical handicaps with marvelous delicacy. Last of all, he removed her mask. She was blindingly beautiful.” This quote explains how the government was not letting the ballerina being her show and showing her beauty but instead they made her cover her face. Icarus rebelled by not listening to his father instructions. Evidence to support my claim is on page 4 lines 35 and 36 “I warn you to travel in the middle course Icarus,” This quote explains what daedalus told Icarus to do. Then on page 6 lines 70-73 “attracted by a desire for the sky he took his path higher.” This quote explains how Icarus did not listen to his father and rebelled. Then in the story about Harrison they are not allowed to take off their handicaps, but on page 25 lines 231-233 its says “Harrison plucked the mental handicap from her ear, snapped off her physical handicaps with marvelous delicacy. Last of all, he removed her mask.” The quote explains how Harrison did something he knew he was not supposed to do. As a result of Harrison taking off her handicaps he rebelling against the government. Those quotes explain how the Icarus story and Harrison have at least one similarity in each
