A big part of the origins of both the American and French revolutions is that the kings were overtaxing the people. What made them different is that America was already “separate” from England. There was an entire ocean between the colonies and England, which played a big part in America being capable of turning away from the monarchy because they already had a large measurement of self-government. Unlike the French citizens, the people in the colonies didn’t want to go to war. At first they just wanted Parliament to hear their complaints but the British government saw this as a threat and sent troops to monitor them. Another setback for the French was that they had just ended the 7-year war, so they were very poor. The outcome of the American Revolution was total independence from Britain and the institution of a democratic government. France’s outcome was chaos; they killed their monarch and tried many different systems of government, but none of them seemed to work. They ended up with an Emperor instead of a King, but the people did have the rights of the revolutionary written constitution. I think America was more “revolutionary” because they went about the overthrowing of their monarch much more efficiently and less violently than the French. The American revolution also had a much better outcome. The outcome of the American Revolution has also not changed like the French Revolution’s has.
