The field of diesel technology is vital to society. Without it, buses, semi trucks, and many other extremely important vehicles would be useless because they could not be maintained properly. A diesel mechanic keeps all of these vehicles running and in good condition by performing preventative maintenance, and fixing things that break. They are like a normal mechanic, but their training is focused on diesel engines, because they are different than regular gasoline powered engines. Diesel mechanics work on everything in diesel vehicles, like the engine, transmission, brakes, air conditioning, and everything else.
Education
There are a few ways to go about becoming a diesel mechanic. Some may go straight into getting certified then going to work at a dealership, while some go to college and get their associates degree in diesel technology. It is a 2 year course that includes general education classes such as college algebra, English comp, computer applications, and general psychology. There are also courses that are specific to diesel technology, such as diesel engines, power trains, hydraulics, electricity, OSHA training, Truck/Heavy equipment repair, power trains/Engine overhaul, Air conditioning, Fuel systems, and Diagnostics of engines (electrical). Also, while in college, it would be intelligent to get a CDL, or a commercial driver’s license. A CDL is vital to have as a diesel mechanic, as it will be needed to test vehicles to make sure they work properly. Some colleges offer a driver’s test to acquire a CDL. CDL stands for commercial drivers license, which allows you to drive semi trucks and busses. Most employers do not actually require an associate’s degree in diesel technology, but it is highly recommended and...

...d not be able to make the long hauls across the country that they do, they would not be as dependable, or as efficient. There are other areas where diesel power would be missed, such as cranes, generators, bulldozers, road graters, and tractors/combines. All of these vehicles would be useless without the mechanics that fix and maintain them.
Conclusion
Without diesel mechanics, the world would not be what it is today. Precious goods would be shipped by vehicles that have not been maintained, or maintained poorly by people who do not really know what they are talking about. There would not be a dependable source of power that is as efficient or long lasting. Most of the time, people would not even get their goods because the trucks would break down. Planes take smaller goods across the countries, but diesel powered semis are responsible for transporting
