Dick Van Dyke was an American actor and comedian whose career took off after starring in a hit tv show called “The Dick Van Dyke Show”. It was originally aired on October 3, 1961. Dick Van Dyke was born on December 13, 1925 in West Plains, Missouri. As a kid Van Dyke grew up with one of his big influences being Stan Laurel from the comedy duo Laurel and Hardy. Van Dyke then began to be known for his comedy. Although Van Dyke was born in West Plains, Missouri, he grew up in Danville, Illinois. His younger brother Jerry, also grew up to be a well known comedian and actor, even being in his brothers show. In 1966 the show went off the air, but still was a big favorite of viewers. Ironically, they came out with another show called The New Dick Van Dyke Show, but no one really got hooked like they did on the original. He then got interested in Michelle Triola, who was his secretary for many years. Van Dyke stayed with Triola for 30 years, until her death in 2009. Van Dyke was then left all alone at the age of 86. Surprisingly, he then married 40 year old Arlene Silver and they are both still alive today. Once he turned 30, Animal House was the number one film in the United States, The Blues Brothers: Briefcase Full of Blues was the number one album, and Saturday Night Live was the highest rated late night television program.
