The play version of The Diary Of Anne Frank tells about the life of a teen girl while she and her family are hiding during World War I. In this play, Anne struggles to live her life to the fullest and finding her independence while in the annex with seven other people. While the play remains widely read and watched today, a new movie version of Anne’s life has adapted the features of the play to create a modern way of telling it. In this movie, the audience sees Anne go from her regular life to a very abnormal life stuck in an annex for over two years. Although, the play and movie versions of Anne Frank’s life differ in their organizational structure, both works focus on the same central conflicts and the same way of presenting all of the information needed. The settings of the play and movie are very different especially in the beginning. In the play, it begins in the old abandoned annex where we find Mr. Frank sadly reading Anne’s diary in 1945 while in the movie, it begins in 1942 with the Franks walking really quickly through the rain on their way to go into hiding. The play begins after everyone but Mr. Frank had died and the movie begins whenever all are alive and are hurrying into hiding to survive World War I. Despite their differences, both works use their initial settings to …show more content…
In the play, the Frank’s must rush into hiding whenever Word War I had started. Many Jews began dying terribly so the Frank’s thought going into hiding would be the best decision. In the movie, the same thing happened. World War I was upon them so they took a different route to survive it. Many Jews were dying in the movie as well. In both works, all seven people in the annex had to keep as quiet as they possibly could. If they made even the slightest noise, the Green Police could come and take them to concentration camps and such. In both works, the Jews hiding in the annex all eventually died from German’s like
One thing that happened in the movie and not in the book is when a window shatters it was Mr.Kraler trying to get into the business. The reason why Mr.Kraler had to break the window was because Peter forgot to unbolt the door. In the book/play when the window shatters it is a thief robbing Mr.Frank’s business, not Mr.Kraler. Another difference is in the movie Mrs. Frank burns a pan while she is making lunch which causes there so become smoke. In the book/play it doesn’t say anything about Mrs. Frank burning anything. The third difference is in the book/play it states that Peter and Anne go to Peter’s room to talk and get away from the adults. In the movie it shows that they go up to the attic where they kissed. There are many more differences, but these are just a few of
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to live during World War 2? Life during World War 2 was torture if you were jewish, especially if you were a kid. Felix Salingar from Then by Morris Gleitzman and Anne Frank both knew what it was like. Their stories both describe the lives of jewish children hiding from the Nazis, in fear of being taken and killed. Throughout both of their stories, many character traits were discovered about them that show how they are similarly affected by the events in their stories. Anne Frank and Felix Salingar have many similarities, some of which stand out more than others.
There were some scenes added or adapted in the movie as opposed to the play. First, the large group of "stricken" girls, which indeed had a greater number than did the group in the play, left the church meeting at the beginning of the movie to see about Betty's condition. Betty seemed to be much more violent in the movie and she tried to jump out of the window, which did not occur in the play. These details were most likely added to ...
One of the differences was when the thief had left the door wide open. In the script, Mr. Frank went down and closed the door. While in the movie as Mr. Frank walks down the stairs and at the same time a man, who was walking down the street saw the door and went to investigate it. Then two Gestapo police had seen the man and went in with the man to investigate as well. Inside the attic, everyone stayed still while Moushi roamed around and he started making noise.
There is other little differences that I noticed added to the story that were in the movie and not the play. There are several scenes where Mother superior is interacting with Sister Veronica. Because of some of these scenes you see another side of Sister Aloysius that presents a more compassionate lady not so wrapped up in doubt. Although Sister Aloysius comes off as a strict woman that really has no sympathy for anyone or anything, which kind of makes you question how the heck she ended up as a nun. In the movie you can clearly see that she has a softer side and actually is hiding behind that tough façade she puts up.
The film relates how Anne and her family tried to survive Nazi persecution in Amsterdam by hiding in her father's office building, aided by trusted friends. Growing up anne was a child that wanted to know everything and ask lots of questions. Anne and her family were hiding for 2 years and everyday she will write in her diary. When the jews were segregated they weren't allowed to have businesses but the father continue to run the business with the trust of christians.During the two years anne and her family was hiding in fear didn’t stop them from celebrating hanukkah. After two years when anne was 15 her and her family was caught and sent to concentration camps where she later died at the age of
Again, it is November of 1945. It is the same setting as the beginning of the play. Miep and Mr. Frank share information. Miep and Mr. Kraler claim they were out in the country when they were taken in search of food. Mr Frank shares about how they were all separated to different camps. Everyone but Mr. Frank had perished at one of the camps. Mr. Frank reads a line from the diary. Anne wrote that in spite of everything, she still believes that people are good at heart. Mr. Frank says that she puts him to shame, and the curtain falls.
The play version of The Diary Of Anne Frank is a play about a young girl and her family hiding from the Nazi’s in fear of being taken to a concentration camp during World War 2. In this play, Anne must adjust to life and growing up in hiding while living with seven other people. While the play is still very popular and enjoyed, there is also a more recent version of this story that is told through a movie to share this story in a more modern way and to appeal to more. In this movie, the audience watches Anne go through the struggles of adjusting to life in hiding and living with a large group of people. Although the play and the movie versions of The Diary Of Anne Frank do have some differences in storytelling and dialogue, both stories have the same conflicts, setting, characters, and life lessons.
Wisps of burnt-out curtains drape over shattered window frames, fluttering helplessly like a bird with injured wings. Pieces of wood collapse snapping once they hit the ground. Smoke swirls around in the wind. No sound can be heard except for the occasional sobs escaping the chapped lips of people visiting what is left of their homes. The once busy city of Amsterdam is now nothing but a city of forgotten souls. In 1942, the Franks and the Van Daans moved into a warehouse located in Amsterdam to escape the perilous world outside, where the Holocaust was taking place. Jews like the Franks and the Van Daans had their rights taken away from them. The Gestapo, the police working for the Nazis, rounded up people to be sent to concentration camps, where people worked to death. Margot Frank was one of them. Many Jews had to leave the country to escape, while the two families, and later on a man named Dussel, lived on the top floor of the warehouse called the Secret Annex. Living in such a small space and having sparse food with so many people was not easy. On weekdays, not a noise was to be made otherwise the workmen below would hear them. Food and other items had to be brought in by Miep and Mr. Kraler, who risked their lives to help the members of the Secret Annex. To keep herself company, Anne Frank wrote in her diary almost every day. Later on, her diary was published, and two authors decided that they would write a play based on the published diary, named The Diary of Anne Frank. Goodrich and Hackett created memorable characters in their play. Among these people, Otto Frank stood out, who emerged as a good leader because he put himself before others, made rough decisions when problems rose, and stayed positive and optimistic even dur...
This would happen to be my report on what happened to Anne and her family while World War II was in action once it was converted to a play and a movie format. I'm sure they both these versions are much less graphic than Anne and her family saw it. I just hope Anne feels that they do her story justice. Both the play and film version of The Diary of Anne Frank focus on Anne Frank and her family's experiences in hiding. However, there are some similarities, including how Anne hands out presents to her family members and the other people in the Annex, and some differences, such as Anne and Peter's relationship and, Margot and Peter's relationship.
A young girl, Anneliese Marie Frank, receives an empty jar of a diary for her thirteenth birthday, amidst much political strife in her new home country of Netherlands. As a German-born Jew in hiding, Anne will eventually fill her diary with over 2 years of experiences of the Secret Annex. Initially, she makes use of her newfound outlet to exhibit her growing interest to become a writer. The diary, for Anne, acts as her personal confidante before her family goes into hiding, and becomes even more valued to her during their ordeal. Eventually, in 1944, Anne will hear of an opportunity for her work to be published after the war, and sets out to revise her entries. Despite this, it does not take away from the appeal for readers of her diary. The audience, as it were, is attracted to the prospect of experiencing the life and times of a person: young, female, Jewish and in hiding. As a diary, there is no foreshadowing in its content, and although in context we understand the inevitable end, we suspend our disbelief to immerse ourselves in the story. The narrative voices of her diary, come with several different identities too. As "Anne", herself, complete with her own feelings of awkwardness and insecurity; "Anne", the girl who ponders and philosophizes; and "Kitty", creating an identity for her diary to lay the basis for a relationship for herself. Between the duality of her personality, and the perspective of her "diary", Anne Frank demonstrates a process in realizing her own maturity as a writer.
flourish her imagination for writing because of the injustices of the world. Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett the authors of “The Diary of a Young Girl” portray Anne Frank’s experience in hiding during the Holocaust. In her diary, given to her by her father for her birthday, Anne writes about the things and problems that happened in the Annex; from the struggle for food, to the the deafening silence they had to display when any soul come by her father's shop. Along with the others that lived with her Mr.Frank, Mrs.Frank, Mr. Van Daan, Mrs.Van Daan, Peter, and Mr.Dussel.And how the characters overcome adversity and injustice in the play, The Diary of Anne Frank.
The Holocaust was a very sad and dreadful time for the jews… well, not the jews the entire world was affected by this and could you imagine what someone thoughts while going through this traumatic time in life, well now we do because Otto Frank, even though it may seem like an ordinary person he is not he survived the Holocaust with his family and friends… although all of them didn't make it, he did and he published his daughters diary, her thoughts while going through this time. In this essay it is going to explain how the mood of story changes, and the characters relationships changed throughout the story, the thesis is how the characters relationship changes and how trh mood changes throughout the play..Now onto the essay.
“The Diary of Anne Frank”, This diary tells a real life story of a young girl named Anne Frank. Anne and her family hid from Nazis for two years before their capture. Anne died in a concentration camp, but her diary survived to tell her story. This story became apply and the script it's about be sharing about. Regardless of the fact that many consider the Holocaust to exemplify the evil within humanity, the playwright show it with the optimism and hopefulness of Anne Frank and other characters.
In the text “The Diary of Anne Frank” , “Homesick” and “Life is Beautiful ” was both about hope for a new beginnings it was not just the fight to of becoming a Jew. In the “Diary of Anne Frank” Anne Frank always had hope. At the end of the play when Miep
