Dian Fossey's Gorillas in the Mist
Gorillas in the Mist is one of the most emotional and inspiring books I have ever read. This autobiography is by, in my eyes, the most admired researcher ever to walk the face of this earth. There is no woman more dedicated to anything than Dian Fossey. This woman stood her ground through thick and thin to protect the lives of one of the most threatened species today.
Dian Fossey was a normal young lady that had the dream of taking part in the research of gorillas in Africa. She attended a conference one evening that was given by Dr. Louis Leaky. Dr. Leaky talked about the enormous problem of keeping the gorillas that roamed the Virunga Mountains of Africa from going extinct. He explained the problem of poachers and the problem that there were just not enough people that cared enough to count the gorillas and stop poaching. This subject caught Fossey's eye immediately. Right after the conference had ended, Fossey ran to Dr. Leaky and asked him if she could join him in the next voyage to the Congo of Africa. Dr. Leaky agreed to the request.
Fossey met up with Dr. Leaky in Africa not long after the conference came up. When Fossey arrived she noticed that the streets were polluted with army members. She asked Dr. Leaky about the situation and he told her about the civil war that was taking place at that time. Fossey knew little about what she was getting into and Dr. Leaky was very vague as to what he told her. Upon arrival Dr. Leaky guided her over to a group of men that he called “Trackers”. He told Fossey to pick a man that would guide her through the mountains to the Gorilla’s home. Out of the whole group there was only one man who spoke English. His name was Sambeggar...

Ever since I was a young kid I always dreamed of having my own pet gorilla or chimpanzee. That dream faded as I grew older. This book brought that dream back stronger than it’s ever been. What this lady did for the future of gorillas in this part of the world is absolutely unbelievable. She gave her life for these animals. I don’t think that there is any person out there with a heart like Dian Fossey had.
This book taught me so much about how gorillas interact with each other, what they eat, how they play, etc… I could go on forever. It taught me what kind of world we live in and how important it is to keep animals alive. Dian Fossey in my eyes is the most gifted woman to ever walk the face of this world in the eyes of the Animal kingdom.

Ishmael is a very captivating novel which teaches us valuable lessons about helping our environment. In our society, most people overlook how fundamental the environment is for our survival. The book explains how we can “save the world.” However, one should note that saving the world doesn’t necessarily mean being a superhero. We can save the world by just helping to preserve and protect the environment. The book also highlights the theme of captivity and how it is prevalent in every life form. The author, Daniel Quinn, explains captivity in a very unique way. By using a gorilla as a teacher, it gives us a different view of how we impact our planet. After reading Ishmael, it opened a whole new perspective of how I see the world.
...bows and arrows. A big factor that was played in this battle was “Custer refused an offer of three Gatling guns prior to his movement” (“littlebighorn.info”). The outcome of the battle probably would have been different if he had taken the Gatling guns. Although they were capable of about 150 rounds per minute he chose not take them due to the fact that they lacked maneuverability.
The gorillas live mainly in coastal West Africa in the Congo, Zaire, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon. Gorillas live in the rain forest. They usually live on the ground but build nest in trees to sleep in. Gorilla troops keep a 15-20 square mile range which often overlaps the range of other troops. There are three different kinds of gorillas. The eastern lowland gorilla the western lowland and the mountain gorilla. They are herbivores and eat only wild celery, roots, tree bark pulp, fruit, stems of many plants and bamboo shoots. They spend nearly half their day eating.
...e country's favorite general they had brought death and destruction upon themselves. In fifteen years there were no more free Native Americans. This process could have been slowed if they had not killed Custer and there had still been Native American supporters in the U.S. After Custer's death, the U.S. military could do whatever they wanted to get rid of the Native Americans. Custer was not able to defeat the Sioux and Cheyenne at the Battle of Little Bighorn, but his memory accomplished that and so much more.
Among the people of your culture, which want to destroy the world? Which want to destroy it? As far as I know, no one specifically wants to destroy the world. And yet you do destroy it, each of you. Each of you contribute daily to the destruction of the world. This truth was stated by a gorilla named Ishmael who, through his experiences of being taken from the jungle, placed in a zoo in the 1930's, put in a menagerie, and bought by a private owner named Mr. Sokolow, had all the time in a world to think about the world around him. Daniel Quinn writes about the horrifying realities of our culture in a book called Ishmael, by stepping outside of the world as we know it and describing what he sees through a talking gorilla. Behind the bars of his cage, he was able to take a look at our culture as an outsider, to see things that we never could. This sagacious, passive, and extremely patient primate wanted to share this knowledge to others so as to stop man from destroying the world. So, he placed an ad in the paper and caught the attention of an eager student, the narrator, who was willing to save the world.
... the gorillas are taken away from their family and are living in captivity. It is still important to study primates in-depth, and a solution to the ethical issues may be to breed primates within the conservatory.
Frederick Benteen, a three company force(140) commanded by Maj. Marcus Reno and a 5 company force (210) commanded by Custer.(10) Benteen was to march southwest to cut off any indians they found and “pitch into anything” he found and report to Custer. Reno was ordered to advance into the village from the south with the assurance from Custer that he would be supported by the regiment. Reno crossed the river about two miles south of the village and began advancing downstream toward the southern end.(11) the surprised warriors quickly rushed to fend off Reno’s assault. Reno halted and dismounted his troops to form a skirmish line which began firing at the advancing warriors. Mounted warriors pressed their attack against the skirmish line and endangered Reno’s left flank. Reno withdrew to a stand of Cottonwoods beside the river, for better protection. A second retreat was ordered to the bluffs east of the river. The warriors pursued the fleeing troops and killed many at close range. Reno’s shattered command recrossed the river and struggled up the steep bluffs to regroup atop high ground, to the east of the valley fight. In just 45 minutes Reno lost half of his command in dead , wounded and missing. Benteen having found no evidence of indians or their movement south, had returned to the main column, and met with Reno’s demoralized
Agriculture- farming in Egypt was completely depended on the Nile River. If you were to go a couple miles farther away from the Nile River you would see nothing but bone dry desert so the Nile was very important to the Egyptians. Flooding season lasted from June to September, depositing a layer of silt beside the river. After the flooding season was over growing season lasted from October to February Egypt had very little rain fall so farmers made canals and ditches to the field.
In the Battle of the Little Bighorn, Sitting Bull and him united forces which led to
The Egyptians were accomplished farmers. They knew the Nile would flood each year and bring new life and abundant grain. The Nile's flooding was predictable and left rich new deposits of silt for new crops, making irrigation easy to plan. A basin irrigation system allowed the flood waters to flow gently into each field, cleansing and renewing the earth each year.
The United States government sent in General George Armstrong Custer and his 600 men of the 7th Cavalry division to remove the Indians. The Battle was against the Sioux and Cheyenne tribes led by Chiefs Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse. General Custer split his division into three. The other two were led by Major Marcus Reno and Captain Frederick Benteen. By dividing his division in three, this outnumbered his platoon even more as General Custer ignored the plan of a coordinated attack. Leaving himself outnumbered and without reinforcements. General Custer was supposed to wait for reinforcements but he was impatient and attacked alone with his 200 men. This impulsive and impatient behavior was something he had shown on multiple occasions in the Civil War as well as the wars with Indian
Mother Teresa once said, “Loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the most terrible poverty.” This can relate to much of the book Of Mice and Men especially when it comes to Lennie, Crooks, and Curley’s Wife. There are plenty of examples in Of Mice and Men of loneliness. The key characters that express their loneliness in the novella were Crooks, because of his skin color, Lennie, because without George he would be lost. Lastly, Curley’s wife, because she is not treated the way she expects Curley to treat her.

Once upon time, there was two group of friends that dislike each other. One group of friend had a African Elephant and an African Forest Elephant. Another group of friends contained a Cross River Gorilla, Chimpanzee, and a Mountain Gorilla. But there was one issue, Chimpanzee was friend with the elephants but Chimpanzee’s friends never knew they were friends. They all lived in the rainforest but some of them do not know where some of their enemies live, but they all live in the rainforest.
