Shaking my damn head at them stupid inconsiderate ass niggas I’m out here damn near a fucking week straight, on a stakeout that I personally don’t even think this nigga is holding like that anymore. Technically I think this punk cleaned his money and went legit.
Yo, that’s what’s up if he did go that route, but it’s a problem if you got my attention out here. I value my fucking time B! I could be spending time with my precious daughter. Damn I’ll give anything to give her everything; she is one of the main reasons why I do this shit.
I love my evil brother, but I’m from a bigger city I know better, this shit doesn’t last too long, especially if you got kids. But this nigga don’t understand because he from a little ass city and this type of shit is what they live for. We both were born in LaGuardia Hospital in Queens, NY. He is the oldest by two minutes. Our mother gave him up to her grandmother in Peoria, Illinois. So we were raised around two different kinds of people. I’m from the Shady Ville, Queens Village on the south side of Jamaican Queens. I also fucked with my niggas on the Hill off 87th & Queens Blvd (Lil Haven Boyz), right by Queens County Jail.
But my brother though he came up in the Warner Homes, a corrupt project that he claims was so crazy that they had to knock it down because the crime rate was worst then Chicago. But I never seen the shit because by the time I got here these niggas was “Harrison Homes” crazy ‘Dub H’ Hard Head’s, Bomb Squad all that. I think he wanted something different because when Chicago finally took Peoria off the ‘GD’ count for the board members coming up missing. Niggas started making up they own cliques and squads, but Drip went to the hill he said it was more money up there.

Back at Drip we were finally done counting the money. We had checked “BIG” 2.7 million. Yo that old muthafucka was holding! Birds done woke up, and I’m excited about this money. I light up some loud getting ready to escape life when I noticed that something was wrong with this nigga Drip, he didn't said shit all while we were counting the money. He looks at me… “Did you kill those hoes?” he asked. I’m thinking to myself like what the fuck, but I answer him “Naw why?” I asked “I knew you was soft, pussy!” Drip said. I told his punk ass to shut the fuck up and tossed his ass the cigarette butt.
“What’s this?” he asked looking all confused. “Yo fucking D.N.A you dumb bitch, now have my money separated from yo shit before I get back!” I said while walking out the front door.
In 1942, a public housing development went up on Chicago’s near north side to house veterans returning from World War II. They were known as the Francis Cabrini Homes, and “were built in an area that had undergone massive slum clearance”. They consisted of fifty-five two and three story redbrick buildings arranged as row houses, resembling army barracks. The Francis Cabrini Homes housed 600 racially diverse families un...
“ 'Don't fucking move,' he said, coming up to my face, eyeball to eyeball. 'Did I give you permission to move? Don't do anything unless I say you fuckin' greaser asshole!'
“ You either go out there and get you brother’s jacket or when you get back I’m going to give you a beating that will be ten times as bad as what that little thief could do to you.”
Throughout There Are No Children Here, a continuous, powerful tension always lurks in the background. The gangs that are rampant in the housing projects of Chicago cause this tension. In the Henry Horner Homes, according to Kotlowitz, one person is beaten, shot, or stabbed due to gangs every three days. In one week during the author's study of the projects, police confiscated 22 guns and 330 grams of cocaine in Horner alone (Kotlowitz 32).
CNN presents the documentary, Homicide in Hollenbeck, spotlighting gang activity in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Hollenbeck. This documentary explores the subculture of gangs existing within Hollenbeck from a several perspectives. The people documented include a mother who lost both of her sons to gang violence, a priest that has tried to help rehabilitate gang members, a police officer that has worked in Hollenbeck for five years in the gang unit, and a current gang member. For a conclusion, Homicide in Hollenbeck focuses on a juvenile exposed to gang life on the cusp of decided where they want their life to lead; gangs or freedom. Problems attributed to the high rate of gang activity and number of gangs in Hollenbeck are the high poverty rate, low employment rate, and broken families that make up the majority of Hollenbeck. The crime most discussed, as per the title of the documentary, is homicide The number of gang related homicides has risen even though the criminal behavior of gangs has ultimately decreased in the neighborhood. In order to fight the overwhelming gang presence, the police believe in increasing the amount of gun power on the streets and number of jailed gang members. The priest who runs Homeboy Industries stated that he feels most gang members are just young men who can’t get out of the gang life. With more funds and opportunities, he thinks the problem could be decreased. In the end, the documentary mentions that the FBI has formed a gang center where local law enforcement agencies can share information to gain more knowledge and to better fight the presence of gangs.
Many of these ethnic groups still reside where their relatives first lived when they arrived many years ago, whereas a majority of the ethnic groups have dispersed all over the Chicago land area, creating many culturally mixed neighborhoods. Ultimately, all of these ethnic groups found their rightful area in which they belong in Chicago. To this day, the areas in Chicago that the different ethnic immigrants moved to back in the 1920s are very much so the same. These immigrants have a deep impact on the development of neighborhoods in today’s society. Without the immigrants’ hard work and their ambition to establish a life for their families and their future, Chicago would not be as developed and defined as it is now.
Gang life exists as a lifestyle because of a lack of access to resources. Gangs are classically viewed as a by-product of social disorganization, the weakness of traditional institutions, like the schools, to replace the lost primary networks of the traditional world. Home of the Chicago Bulls and great players, such as, Michael Jordan and Derick Rose, who have won six rings and it is considered to host one of the greatest NBA teams of all times. It is the adopted hometown of the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama. The city has produced great musicians such as R. Kelly and Nat King Cole, who revolutionized the music industry during their time. It has been burnt down and rebuilt stronger than ever, with landmarks, such as the Sears Tower and John Hancock building dominating the skyline. It is known for its famous cuisines, such as the deep dish pizza and their famous hot dogs. Chicago is a remarkable city with a lot of great attributes, but in recent years the lethal combination of gangs and guns has turned Chicago into a war zone. The Windy City, now dubbed "Chiraq," had the country’s highest homicide rate in 2012 with 500 murders on record (Erbentraut). Chicago is a war zone, so much so that, in recent years, its younger citizens have taken to calling it “Chiraq,”after Iraq, the Middle Eastern nation the United States has been deadlocked in a war with since 2003 (“FBI: Chicago”). With good reason, 4,265 people have been killed in Chicago since 2001. This is 2.5 times more than in the Afghanistan war zone (Chi raq). The youth internalized their situation by proudly calling themselves soldiers or savages. They learn the violent and anti-social behavior whether for survival reasons or because their only role models ex...
In order to better understand the rise of these groups, I went into the original neighborhoods to document the history which led to these groups. There are 88 incorporated cities and dozens of other unincorporated places in Los Angeles County (LAC). In the process of conducting this research, I visited all of these places in an attempt to not just identify gangs active in Los Angeles, but to determine their territories. Through several weeks of field work and research conducted in 1996, I identified 274 black gangs in 17 cities and four unincorporated areas in LAC.
Jackelyn Hwang and Robert J. Sampson’s article “Divergent Pathways of Gentrification: Racial Inequality and the Social Order of Renewal in Chicago Neighborhoods” addresses the evolution of gentrification over time. The direct examination of gentrification is difficult to observe; however, by examining social pathways we are able to further advance our studies.
In The Ethics of Authenticity Charles Taylor makes a radical claim that we only become capable of understanding ourselves and defining our identity through dialogue. He says humans are fundamentally dialogical creatures (29) and cannot develop into individuals without interaction with others. Through dialogue we are able to exchange our ideas with others and construct our values and beliefs from bits and pieces we hear. This is how we become authentic humans. Authenticity is being true to yourself. It almost seems paradoxal; to discover your individuality you must converse with others. Charles Taylor also believes that some lives are better than others, based on how authentically a life is lived. In modern society, where soft relativism prevails, this view is often seen as unacceptable. Current thought seems to be that lives are all equal; in fact the choices we face have neither a right nor a wrong answer. Charles Taylor believes this causes people to become self absorbed, and can bring about a loss of meaning in their lives.
In “The Fish” by Elizabeth Bishop, the narrator attempts to understand the relationship between humans and nature and finds herself concluding that they are intertwined due to humans’ underlying need to take away from nature, whether through the act of poetic imagination or through the exploitation and contamination of nature. Bishop’s view of nature changes from one where it is an unknown, mysterious, and fearful presence that is antagonistic, to one that characterizes nature as being resilient when faced against harm and often victimized by people. Mary Oliver’s poem also titled “The Fish” offers a response to Bishop’s idea that people are harming nature, by providing another reason as to why people are harming nature, which is due to how people are unable to view nature as something that exists and goes beyond the purpose of serving human needs and offers a different interpretation of the relationship between man and nature. Oliver believes that nature serves as subsidence for humans, both physically and spiritually. Unlike Bishop who finds peace through understanding her role in nature’s plight and acceptance at the merging between the natural and human worlds, Oliver finds that through the literal act of consuming nature can she obtain a form of empowerment that allows her to become one with nature.
In book one of the metamorphoses, Ovid talks of artists, and how art can be used to create and transform. Metamorphoses means transformation or change, so in one word, Ovid’s title tells the reader what is to come. Ovid uses art in the Metamorphoses to prove a point. To show how strong the human spirit is, or to teach you to watch what you say, because you never know who is around. The story of Arachne displays a great example of watching what you say. Minerva hears Arachne saying that she is the greatest weaver, and Minerva sets out to prove her wrong. With Daedalus and Icarus, Daedalus uses his art to try and find an escape for him and his son. Showing just how strong he is and how much he cares for his son. For Pygmalion, his art shows the power of his love and how much he wants to find the proper woman for himself.
Antisocial personality disorder is a personality disorder marked by a general pattern of disregard for a violation of other people’s rights. Explanations of antisocial personality disorder come from the psychodynamic, behavioral, cognitive, and biological models. As with many other personality disorders, psychodynamic theorists propose that this disorder starts with an absence of parental love during infancy leading to a lack of basic trust. In this view, the children that develop this disorder respond to early inadequacies by becoming emotionally distant, and they bond with others through use of power and destructiveness. Behavioral theorists have suggested that antisocial symptoms may be learned through modeling, or imitation. As evidence, they point to the higher rate of antisocial personality disorder found among the parents of people with this disorder. Other behaviorists suggest that some parent’s unintentionally teach antisocial behavior by regularly awarding a child’s aggressive behavior. The cognitive view says that people with this disorder hold attitudes that trivialize the importance of other people’s needs. Cognitive theorists also believe that these people have a genuine difficulty recognizing a point of view other than their own. Finally studies show that biological factors may play an important role in developing antisocial disorder. Researchers have found that antisocial people, particularly those with high impulse and aggression, display lower serotonin activity and has been linked this same activity with other studies as well.
If we look at sociology in general, it is a study of society and human behavior. However, to be able to understand it in deeper sense we need to understand humans itself and how they interact with one another in a crowd. This involves observing humans in a micro (individual itself) and a macro level (how an individual interacts with government, family and other social institutions. As we all know, the great sociologist, C. Wright Mills defined the term “Sociological Imagination” which helps us understand the connection between individual and sociological demographics along with the history and biography. Another famous sociologist named W. E. B. DuBois wrote a book “Souls of Black Folks” where he explained the struggles of black people in the United States during The Civil War. I believe that the concept of Sociological Imagination and Idea of Double Consciousness are very intertwined with each other and can be synced to explain many behaviors of our society.
