CHAPTER #7 “Y’know, this must be how ordinary people feel. This must be how ordinary people feel around us.” - Nite Owl II, Watchmen (XI.14.7) March 10th 2001 Park Slope, Brooklyn NYC Still in hospital and feeling terrible. The nurse said they might be discharging me after Dr. Black comes and checks everything out tomorrow. Andrew came to visit me during afternoon visiting hours today. He brought several issues of Young Avengers, Green Lantern, and the complete series of Guardians of the Galaxy. He came in and flipped off his hood and then looked suddenly startled at the sight of me. I realised then that all I had on was a hospital gown, my broken leg was awkwardly elevated and strapped to the rack, and I hadn’t had a shower in a couple …show more content…
of days. I must have looked awful. It felt good, anyway, that he had come across from Manhattan to visit me. ‘Thom told me you were in here. I didn’t even know,’ he said. ‘Don’t worry about it.’ ‘What happened? How’d you break your damn leg?’ ‘Fell down the damn stairs,’ I lied. ‘That’s rough,’ he replied. ‘I brought you these,’ he waved the comics in the air, ‘thought they might cheer you up, but it looks like you don’t really need them,’ he pointed at the comics and graphic novels I had stacked on the bedside chair. ‘Nah, I’ve read all of these three times now, at least.’ ‘Really?’ ‘I can’t exactly go for a walk or anything.’ ‘Yeah, bleak situation you’re in.’ He came and sat on the end of my bed, kicked his shoes off and handed me the new comics he’d brought me. ‘What’s the food like?’ ‘Horrible.’ ‘Thought as much. My mom works in the kitchens here you know.’ ‘Oh. Well, shit. I mean I’m sure the food isn’t her fault though. Right? They don’t actually make all the food in the hospital kitchens, right? I’m pretty sure—’ ‘I’m joking,’ he started laughing, ‘my mom’s a librarian you fool.’ He seemed really pleased with himself that I’d fallen into his trap, ‘should’ve seen your face.’ ‘You’re an ass.’ ‘I’ve heard hospital food is pretty bad though.’ ‘It’s not that different to the crap we get at school’ ‘Hey, I love cafeteria food! Judith would be real upset with you.’ I laughed. ‘Well, be my guest, take all the free hospital food you want.’ ‘Thanks buddy. Anyway, I got you some Spiderman macarons,’ he unslung his backpack and reached into it and then pulled out a cellophane packet and handed it to me. ‘Some what?’ ‘Macarons.’ ‘Oh, nice,’ I said as I inspected the packet. It was full of red meringue cookies each with white web-shaped icing on top and blue cream wedged in the middle. I’d seen these things on display in coffee shops before but had never actually eaten one. ‘Everyone else brought me cards and junk. Where’d you get these?’ ‘My brother owns a bakery and he made a bunch of things for Comic-Con.’ I turned the packet around in my hands and then looked up at him. ‘Your brother sold these at Comic-Con?’ ‘Yeah, it was on last weekend. ‘Yeah, I know it was last weekend.
You went?’ ‘Yeah. My brother and his team made all these insane cakes and pastries. He did this crazy Justice League cake, it was huge.’ He went on describing it in detail. ‘You went to San Diego?’ I said in disbelief, ‘how was it?’ ‘It was awesome. It was beyond awesome. You have to go. I think next year will be even better.’ I felt a pang of jealousy and wished I could sit up more but my leg prevented me from moving. ‘I’ve always wanted to go to Comic-Con but it’s so far away.’ ‘Stan Lee was there. He signed a few of my old comics. I got to talk to him. And Geoff Johns was there! It was so good.’ I couldn’t believe that my newest friend, the guy sitting at the end of my bed right now, had actually met to Stan Lee and Geoff Johns. ‘Are you going to go again next year?’ ‘Yeah, I’ve already started saving for it. I can stay with my brother again so I don’t need to worry about accommodation but I need to get a plane ticket and an event pass.’ He was really energetic now. I opened the packet of macarons and offered him one and then took one for myself. It was a bit stale but still good. ‘So, plane and then a pass? How much is all
that?’ ‘It’s like twenty-five dollars for one day. The plane’s about three hundred.’ ‘Well, you have a whole year to save, easy enough.’ I shoved the rest of the macaron in my mouth and chewed and thought about going to Comic-Con and right then there was nothing I wanted to do more. ‘I should ask Claire if she’d be interested. She might be able to convince my dad to pay for everything. She’d love it, I think.’ ‘Who’s Claire?’ Andrew asked, repositioning himself on the end of my bed, ‘your girlfriend?’ ‘My stepmom,’ I replied. ‘She reads a lot of graphic novels. She came with me to Galaxy Inc. the other day and we bought a bunch of stuff and talked about comics the whole day.’ ‘If she’s that into comics then she’s definitely heard of Comic-Con. Maybe she’s been before.’ ‘Yeah, maybe, before she met my dad or something.’ I wasn’t sure though that she had, because wouldn’t it have come up in conversation? In any case, I doubt my dad would actually let her go with me to San Diego. It wasn’t the kind of thing he’d want her doing because it didn’t interest him at all. Because I knew he didn’t like her doing things without him and he probably wouldn’t want to go, even for our sakes. He was stubborn like that; if he didn’t like something or didn’t want to do something it was like moving a mountain. Unfortunately my powers didn’t involve super strength. I’d have to figure out some ordinary way to get past him. [needs more stuff here! Talk about superpowers. ‘Quis custodiet ipsos custodies – who watches the watchmen?’ Writes on leg cast?] After he had gone I ate the rest of the macarons and I read through all the comic book issues he had brought me. Guardians was one of my absolute favourite series. When I finished the last one I felt the usual empty gulf in my chest on reaching the end of something and there being no more of it.
“I’m going to tell you about them. You’ll be rendered speechless by what I was able to find this time around. I can assure you that your ‘game’ won’t end like it did last year with the death of your beloved butler, Ivan”
4. At that moment I couldn’t feel any more cynical about the way my friend was acting out.
This book has great balances of love interests, actions, and internal conflict with characters. It has an interesting story so far with new pieces coming up every few chapters that are very important. Like Al attacking Tris, Eric talking about Divergents and how the rebels must be eliminated. Tris and Four are developing feelings for each other, which I find weird because he is basically her teacher. They are only two years apart, so the relationship is not that awkward. In this journal I will be predicting, evaluating, and questioning.
Two cheerful children ran down the hallways of the (Insert Last Name Of Isamu's Family) family home.A fire red haired girl slammed the door behind her and it was open again by her best friend.Without looking back the girl loaded her vow with a regular arrow and shot it backwards towards her unsuspecting friend.A quick slice later and the arrow was cut in half by Isamu's sword.Daylight danced around them as the true neck wearing boy pulled ahead and ran full speed to the door of their school.
6. (CC) Since Madame Loisel is the protagonist; I would say the necklace itself is the antagonist. As you can tell from the title of this short story, the necklace is the center of the conflict that is created to the Loisels. It is after Madame loses the necklace that all the trouble begins. Also, the necklace causes them misery and they end up being in debt. Madame and her husband had to work harder than they ever before to pay off the
A major theme that is seen during the Gulliver’s final adventure is the reversal of roles. For the first time in the novel, Gulliver’s crew forms a mutiny and throws him overboard. On this island, we are introduced to Houyhnhnms and Yahoos. Gulliver first meets the Yahoos; a group of humans that act like farm animals and have the brain equivalent of a horse. Meanwhile, the Houyhnhnms are an intelligent race of horses that have their own language and use the Yahoos as cattle. When reality is presented with a different face it allows the reader to make less biased opinions based on previous beliefs. Most people are completely fine with how people treat cattle as a source of food, but when we see the
When I first saw this title, I thought that it was simply just about a person who had experienced a very eventful hour. Although this title is very simple, it does not predict what is going to happen or have any clues or a double meaning, which I think is really cool. After reading this short story, it is exactly what I thought it was. It was a lady, Mrs. Louise Mallard, who had the most eventful hour of any one's life. From the beginning, Mrs. Mallard is sitting in her living room when her sister, Josephine comes in and tells her the horrible news of her husband's death. An important detail is that Mrs. Mallard has a heart disease so Josephine, her sister, has to be very careful telling her the news. Josephine learned of Mr. Mallard’s death
Brian’s first comprehension need is factual comprehension. He understands that the informational passage is about earthquakes, but does not put together the information throughout to infer what genuinely causes the earthquakes. The entire passage addressed plates, but when asked about how earthquakes happen, he does not mention plates at all. He understands that rocks cause vibrations and that the vibrations cause earthquakes but he does not see that the rocks (or plates) cause earthquakes because they create vibrations.

Due to this, Stan Lee created the Fantastic 4 series in 1961. Additionally, he co-created the Hulk, Spider-Man, Dr Strange, Daredevil, and the X-Men. All of these superheroes are some of the most popular today. Thanks to the brilliance of Stan, Marvel Comics soon became highly popular throughout many countries. In the year 1972, Stan was promoted to editorial director and publisher for the infamous company and later moved to the West coast to be involved in Marvel’s film adventures. He later had a cameo with in the first ever Marvel movie, Iron Man One. Some cameos that Stan Lee has been in almost every Marvel movie including Deadpool 1, both of the Thor movies, the Avengers movies, Captain America movies, Spiderman movies, and countless

I was afraid that he wouldn’t welcome this change in his routine that I was bringing, but he was extremely warm and polite; he had the amiable personality that makes anyone feel as though they could easily open up to him. As we start conversing, it is almost as if he wanted someone to come and talk with him.
