rules. On my Matchermaker & My Skills quiz, my results pointed out how I take pleasure in helping people, mentally and physically; it gives me joy whenever I’m able to aid someone with their health. Being a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you’re constantly advancing your knowledge and skills; it’s quite exciting for me. Staying in one place is utterly a bore, continually having challenges keeps me on my toes and gives me great motivation. I am also very detail-oriented with whatever work I’m doing, I take my time and observe my actions because I believe that the more time you put in your work, the more it shows your efforts and interests. On the Learning Styles quiz, my results stated how I’m more of an auditory-tactile learner. An auditory learner is a person who is comfortable and absorbs information best when it is projected by an audible voice, such as lectures and discussions. A tactile learner is a person who learns best from hands-on work. They observe and absorb the information given best when they’re actually demonstrating the work. These results showed how I’m both; I truly learn information best when I’m listening and demonstrating. In the course that BCIT offers, it gives you lectures and hands-on labs to learn from; I’m quite a quick learner of new concepts and technology, especially when it comes to these types of learning styles.
Diagnostic medical sonography is a profession where sonographers direct high-frequency sound waves into a patient’s body through the use of specific equipment to diagnose or monitor a patient’s medical condition. As described by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, this examination is referred to as an ultrasound, sonogram, or echocardiogram. The high-frequency sound waves emitted from the handheld device, called a transducer, bounce back creating an echo and therefore produce an image that can be viewed on the sonographers computer screen. This image provides the sonographer and physician with an internal image of the patient’s body that will be used in the diagnosis. The most familiar use of ultrasound is used in monitoring pregnancies and is provided by obstetric and gynecologic sonographers, who also provide imaging of the female reproductive system.
