Case Study
Mrs. Anna suffered from a two medical conditions: hypertension (HTN) since10 years which were diagnosed in her postpartum period and recent high blood glucose level which suggest a type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable endocrine disorder characterized by insulin insufficiency, human body 's resistance to insulin or both (Sparkes, 2012). Non-communicable diseases are chronic in nature affects a vast majority of Australian as well as worldwide population (“About diabetes,” 2015).
Case overview:
Mrs. Anna Borg is a child rearing Maltese lady who is 48-years old. She works as high school teacher. She is also, a heavy smoker with an average of a 25 cigarettes a day for many years. Although this patient was under hypertensive pharmacological therapy Lisinopril 10 mg oral once per day, she exhibited a deterioration in her health status over the last 10 years. Anna experienced an altered glucose metabolism and at risk for decrease cellular and humoral immunity (Craft, Gordon, & Tiziani, 2013). In the other hand, Mrs. Anna obesity has exaggerated her fat mass cell caused an increase in leptin level which also stimulates the hypothalamus and initiates leptin resistance, causing increase adipose tissue. In addition, smoking as stated by Craft (2013) contributed to Mrs. Anna weight gain leading to diabetes secondary to obesity. In addition, Mrs. Anna longstanding smoking history played a great role in damaging pancreatic cells, causing damage to beta cell leading to insulin inadequacy (Chang, 2012) because of nicotine adverse
