Psychology is the study of mental processes and behavior. Psychologist study both animals and human, but with humans they study everything from feelings and doing (Kasschau 9). Psychology has many perspectives and specialties for a person to specialize in. If I would choose a subfield it would be developmental psychology specializing in infants because I am interested in how a babies learn and develop over time.
Psychologists started studying development in the late eighteenth and the early twentieth century. G. Stanley Hall was known as the father of developmental psychology because he made the first organized study on children. He was the first to teach children psychology and he wrote many books ad journals. Plus, many of his students

These psychologist help the world to understand “how a person grows, ages, and develops during different stages in his life” (Developmental Psychology Careers). This information can help a person live his or her life to the maximum. Developmental psychologists know what ages a person hits a milestone. Therefore can tell if that person is developing on track or not. For example, if a baby does not sit up at a certain period in time he or she might have a serious health conditions. But if a psychologist finds this problem early enough he or she can help the parents and the doctor get the baby back on track (Developmental Psychology Careers). Psychologists have many different field to study in, for example, biology, cognitive, and emotions. In developmental psychology there are three goals: describe, explain, and enhance development. To describe development a person must be able to see the regular development and the changes specialized to that person. The main reason people develop similarly is because they have a common DNA. This DNA leads people through the similar developmental changes at the same period in life …show more content…
This method allows psychologist to learn what stimuli babies are able to differentiate. Infants are familiar with some stimuli, but they are tested to enhance more stimuli. There are many different procedures– high-amplitude sucking procedure, conditioned foot-kick procedure, and head-turn preference procedure. The important part of this research is to test if the babies are control the stimuli that are present. Usually, babies prefer the new and unfamiliar stimuli’s than the ones they already encountered, but the baby should be able to learn the different between the new stimuli and the old ones (New World
For ease of review in discussing the developmental theorists and their theories of human development I have subdivided each theorist into their respective schools of psychology. These schools include the psychoanalytic school, behavioral school, humanistic school, cognitive school, and the individual schools of psychology. Each developmental theorist holds their own unique ideas and theories about various components of human development. I will be discussing the contributions of each of these theorists.
Child psychologists try to answer fundamental questions such as how children develop language, personality, empathy, and behaviour, with an emphasis on environmental and genetic differences. Some of child psychology theories had their foundation in good old assumptions and later developed the empirical backing, obtained through rigorous scientific investigation, which has popularised them.
This field is founded on the belief that people want to lead meaningful lives, to find what is best within themselves and to enhance their life experiences. As a result this following paper gives examples of educational requirements, salary, travel, and retirement funds and plans. Psychologist are necessary because people deserve to be heard, therefore, one should consider looking at the education salary, travel opportunities and etc. to join this career.
There are many different subfields in psychology and people talk most about is the study of crazy people. That can be put into a couple of subfields like personality and social are some of the main areas. There are five big issues that will show up in the general study of psychology the first one is the person and the situation that can affect the outcome of what is happening. Then there is nature over nurture this show how a person grow up and how genetics pushed the person. Stability and change is how some one’s personality can change over time or stay the same. The next issues are diversity and universality this is the defenses/similarities that are between people. The last of the five big issues is the mind and body connection this just
Even though both are in the fields of psychology and have similarities, they also have many differences. “Forensic psychology are involved in analyzing crime and aiding law enforcement agencies in criminal investigations.” (http://www.psywww.com/careers/specialt.htm) “Developmental psychologists study how we develop intellectually, socially and emotionally over the lifespan. Some focus on just one period of life such as childhood or adolescence. Developmental psychologist usually do research and teach in academic settings but many act as consultants to day care centers, school or social service agencies.” (http://www.psywww.com/careers/specialt.htm) Forensic psychologist and developmental psychologist would be able to work together when cases such as troubled adolescences that has committed crimes. Some of the similarities between these two specialized psychology fields are that both look at client’s actions throughout their lives to gain a prospective on how to aid them to become an improved member or society. From a salary approach, around ten percent of people in both of these fields are able to make over $100,000 a year. Differences between both are that forensic psychologist normally work in a crime environment while, developmental psychologist normally work in an academic environment. On a deeper level, forensic psychologist work along the side of law
The field of developmental psychology is always being questioned and therefore expanded. Thousands of renowned psychologists have contributed to this process, two of which being Erik Erikson and Lawrence Kohlberg. They both left a hand print on the large and expanding wall of psychology; however they dabbled in very different aspects of development. Their similarities and differences aid in the determination of which gave more to the field of developmental psychology and in doing so gave more to the institution of psychology as a whole.
This may include physical, mental, emotional, and social changes in ones lives. These changes usually come with milestones, which describe an important event in a person’s life. Even though, the most noticeable milestones occur in our childhood and adolescence, adults also go through a series of turning points during their lives. This job is useful to help us understand how a person grows, develops, and ages at different stages in their life. Most people develop or reach a certain milestone at specific ages. For example when a toddler starts to sit, crawl, and walk they have a certain age in which they begin to do it. If any of these don’t occur within that certain age range then the toddler needs to be evaluated in a closer manner. Developmental psychologists generally specialize in certain ages or stages, and with this their responsibilities vary. Taking this information into consideration allows a developmental psychologist to evaluate a person, and determine whether he is on track or not. If a person has not reached their milestone when they should, then the psychologist can determine if a person has a developmental disability. Developmental psychologists have the opportunity to work at hospitals and mental
Psychology is the study of the mind and behavior and translates as science of the soul. It is the study of human behavior and deals with how we think, feel, and act. Some areas of psychology are clinical, industrial, physiological, experimental, personality, social, and developmental. Psychologists can work in hospitals, schools, rehabilitation facilities, in public and private clinics or in the research field. They usually treat persons with mental and emotional disorders, so one may ask; why bother with psychology if you do not want to actually work as a psychologist? Even though it happens that i do want to study psychology, this year that i was introduced to it,i discovered that even if i wanted to study something entirely different, psychology would still be useful to me. So when studying psychology, you learn about human nature. This means that psychology actually has impact on every aspect in life. It helps see through the motives other people too have more importantly, it will help you to understand your own motives better. As a result
Developmental psychology is an area of research devoted to explaining the continuing growth and change that occurs over the course of one’s life. Throughout history many varying theories have been used to attempt to explain the complex process of childhood experiences altering who individuals become as an adult.
Psychologists are very important people. There are many different types of psychologists to help people with certain problems they cannot handle on their own. They help people in every aspect of life, from helping them with daily struggles they face, to helping people get over an overbearing disaster they experienced.
There are many theories associated with developmental psychology, which studies the scientific process and cause of human development over the course of our lives. Developmental psychologists study a wide range of theoretical areas, such as biological, social, emotional, and cognitive processes (McLeod, S. A., 2012). Two theories of developmental psychology that I will be discussing will be the theory of moral development by Lawrence Kohlberg, and Jean Piaget’s theory of cognitive development.
Many associate psychology with sitting in a chair in a small office as someone taking notes, asking how you feel about a certain event or feeling, or analyzing your deepest secrets and memories. However, it branches off into many other fields. A clinical psychologist’s main job is “to reduce the distress and improve the psychological wellbeing of clients” (Bond). This can include anything from depression, eating disorders, and addiction, to mental illness, family and personal relationships, and learning disabilities (Bond). A clinical psychologist usually will choose to have an emphasis in a certain field such as children and learning disabilities and work in schools or social work facilities, or mental illness and work in a hospital (Bond).
Child psychology, also known as child development, is the study of psychological growth of children; how these mechanisms develop from infancy to adolescence and why they deviate from one child to the next. Child development is associated with biological, psychological, and emotional diversity that occur in humans. Although there is a different advancement for each child, these developmental changes may be greatly determined by genetic factors and experience during prenatal life. The early years of a child’s life are very important for his or her health and development. Parents, health professionals, educators, and others can work together as partners to help children grow up to reach their full potential.
In this research paper is explaining what developmental psychology is, how is applicable and understand how is applies in the life. For this reason, the benefits of developmental psychology obtain the knowledge in human development. In addition, human development acquires several changes and process in our bodies that will be known even through the years. Also, a developer persists that apart the life and how humans may become indifference aspects as of human evolutionary development. Then, a human development produces the different stages of having various changes depend on a character. In addition, a person has different influences make anyone shaped combinations of her/his life by culture and society. On the other hand, the development is
Psychology has big role in my future career because I will be working with patients every day and I need to understand them and help them. Things I learned in this class are the most important things that helps me achieve my goals. If I understand basics of human behavior, I will better able to understand and treat patients. I want to understand my patient’s emotional needs and reactions in order to communicate with them. Most of all, I need them to trust me because patients who trust their doctors are more likely to open up with their symptoms and problems. For example: young patients may be more afraid than adults. They may have difficulties in understanding their illness. Doctor can apply his/her knowledge of child development and psychology and relate to the young patients in a way that is helpful for both of them. Moreover, it also helps me see how patients are describing their illnesses. Most of the patients describe their illness in a negative way and only few are optimistic. So psychology plays really big role in medical
