The area of Port Chicago is very unique and plays a big part of the history. Port Chicago Naval Ammunition Depot was located at Mare Island, California and was once a munitions facility in the San Francisco Bay area. The importance of this specific site is that it was the gateway to the Pacific Ocean during World War II. Therefore, a large amount of transportation including exporting and importing was done here.

In the fictional short story of “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge,” the author Ambrose Bierce does a superior job of making the mind of a reader wonder. Throughout the story, the reader is able to watch and experience the hanging of a local plantation owner Peyton Farquhar. The story contains three parts that show the present, a flash back to the past, and into an altered reality of Farquhar’s “getaway.” The story of “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” demonstrates the theme of how the nature of time is free-flowing. Bierce uses three elements of fiction to successfully support the story in its free flow of time. Ambrose Bierce uses the setting, point of view, and plot structure to help organize the theme and the story’s unique elements.

The Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing is one of the most well known spots in the city. At this area, people can attend outdoor festivals and concerts while enjoying food and music. It also offers a panoramic view of the Philadelphia skyline, Delaware River, and Benjamin Franklin Bridge. Spruce Street Harbor Park is also very popular, especially for teenagers. They have Hammock Park, which is located around the Columbus Monument. The monument was completed in 1992 to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s voyage. They have hammocks and fountains hung throughout the area, with lighting by more than 300-meter-long LED tube lights (“Delaware River Waterfront”). It is a beautiful sight during the day and night. They also have an outdoor roller skating rink, which transforms into an ice skating rink in the winter, which gives people something fun, different, and affordable to do. Firework shows are also something entertaining that goes on at Penn’s Landing. The Camden and Philadelphia waterfronts come together to create a marvelous show on New Year’s Eve and Fourth of July weekend. In 2010 a study was conducted by Urban Partners that said, “New Years Eve fireworks directly motivated visitors to come to Philadelphia, and these visitors utilized an estimated 1,720 hotel rooms and expended nearly $1.25 million beyond what would have occurred in the absence of the Fireworks program” (Corcoran 42). The current size, inherent values, and economic status of the United States owes greatly to the paramount figures and events that took place during the Early National Period of the country. However, while there is no doubt that such events- and the figures behind them- were of great importance and have molded the country into the pristine product that it is today, the various construction projects of that time have gone largely unnoticed. Canals, being one of the most prominent advances in transportation, are prime examples of forgotten catalysts of the American nation. The construction of canals- particularly the Erie Canal- during the 19th century played a key role in the geographic, economic, and cultural development of the country by
Faber Park has been, is and will be a very important asset of the Port Richmond Community; it is equipped with a public pool, a playground, a skate park and open space- not to mention a beautiful view. The Bayonne Bridge is almost directly above it and if we sit in the benches overlooking the Kill Van Kull, a three feet long and one thousand feet wide channel, we are able to see ships sail through. Almost every summer day we see the park filled with people of all ages looking for somewhere to spend time outdoors. It is the closest park to Port Richmond Ave, home to people of diverse backgrounds and more or less low incomes.
Naples, not the most exciting place on the planet. No, people have seemed to conclude that Naples, FL is the place to go for a nice, relaxing retirement. And I have to agree, they are right. Naples is a place filled with tee times on golf courses, lunches at country clubs, longs walks along the beach and a casual stroll on the downtown sidewalks, sipping on a frappacino, all accompanied by sunny, cloudless days.
The Chicago and Ship Canal should be closed until the problem is solved to keep the Asian Carp out of the Great Lakes. The canal should be closed because the Cato are dangerous to the food chain and to people. The Asian carp are being introduced to unknown waters and can be devastating to the waterlife ecosystem. I have heard stories from my peers about how loud it is in New York City and after seeing how the driving is, there I found a lot of things in common. People were screaming at each other, honking and sometimes sharing some “nice words” to one another. The body language is the same and the level of patience as well; the only difference I found is that drivers slow down when you cross. In my country you have to dodge the cars most of the times when you cross the road. People walk so fast! I tried to keep the rhythm with the lady who is leading me to the museum and after two blocks she was forty steps ahead. I saw many people making a line for a cup of coffee and walking with their cups all over, I saw secretaries and office assistant holding may be six cups of coffee for their work mates that made me to enter Starbucks for coffee. Part of diversity that New York offer is that you can find people from all over the world working in the City, but the hot dog stands are taken by middle Eastern people, I love the
