I get out of bed while the rays of the sun sneak through my blinds in the hotel room, and hop in the shower. The feeling of the warm splash of water on my face wakes me up. It then dawns on me that it’s game day! A time to focus and get prepared for one of the most important games of my career, the quarterfinal game of the MHSAA playoffs. I’ve played hockey for the last 14 years, and it’s been a long wait, but I know there’s no better feeling than playing a high school hockey playoff game. Going down to the lobby about to have a team breakfast, our coach ordered us bagels. The whole team is all around enjoying their breakfast as a team. The coach comes into the lobby and gives a little pep talk. After the pep talk was given it was time to get to the bus. Walking out the door there was a slight chill there was smoke coming from our breath. Going up the stairs of the charter bus looking down the aisle the whole team sitting in their seats listening to music or doing whatever they do before a game. I have never seen a team more focused than we were. …show more content…
Our coach kicks us out of the bus and made us walk the rest of the way to wake us up a little more and stretch our legs. It did wake us up it was so cold the snow under our feet was frozen and every step we took there was a crunching sound. We made it to the rink doors and all of the bags were sitting there waiting at the door. We picked up our bags and headed to the locker room. Getting into the locker smelling that nice stink of sweat was a similar smell to all of us. Even though it wasn’t the best smell I hoped it wasn’t the last time I smell a hockey locker with the long lasting smell of
Originally born in Moscow, Russia, I came to the United States fourteen years ago with my parents along with my unrelated brother as their newly adopted children. Transitioning to a new country can be hard, but not knowing the language is even harder. For the first few years of my life, I struggled to speak, write and read any English. Since then, I have become acclimated to the American culture and state of mind and learned English proficiently, but, lost touch with my mother tongue because I spoke minimal Russian. I have always been proud to acknowledge and tell others that I am adopted from Mother Russia. However, over the past several years my curiosity and desire to learn about my native homeland have increased significantly. My interest in the Russian language reignited last year when I overheard a Russian and Kazakh having a conversation in Russian. I soon found myself listening to anyone anywhere, who spoke Russian.
We were walking to the Carolina Panthers stadium and we were a couple blocks away. Every step it got bigger.I was building up excitement the whole way there! I could see it very clear now. I was about two hours before the game start so they didn’t let us in yet. Outside there was booths and trucks that had a lot of fan gear and football equipment. We were walking in the tailgating section right next to the stadium and we could see the huge panther logo on the side of it.
“The NHL (national hockey league) is not in the business of comforting people, they’re in the business of entertainment, and if fighting represents a way to differentiate themselves from an entertainment stand point, then fighting isn’t going anywhere” In the 2014-15 season 1,230 games were played, and out of those games 391 fights were in action. 29.91% of games had fights, 45 games had more than one fight. Taking fighting out of the game of hockey is too big of a risk. I think the fans will be disappointed and the entertainment level will go way down. In my paper I’m going to write about why fighting in hockey should stay and why people think it should also.
When most people hear the word hockey, they think about skating, ice, and a puck. What most people do not think about is running, the blistering heat, and a small orange ball, however, I do. That is because I play dek hockey, not ice, meaning that we run, and our season is never over. Playing hockey is my favorite thing to do, and I have so many fond memories. Some of those memories are, playing hockey at Bill’s Golfland, U.S.A. Ball Hockey Tryouts, and playing at Penn Hills Dek Hockey.
I have been involved in many activities throughout high school that have shaped me into the person I am today. These activities have exposed me to an immense group of different and diverse people. I’ve played hockey since age three, it is more than just a game. It is not only about playing hockey, it is about learning life skills that I will carry with me throughout the rest of my life. I have learned how to work as a team member no matter if things are going well or if they are not. You also build bonds between teammates throughout the years and make memories that will never be forgotten. A very big importance of the game of hockey is being able to represent my home city of White Bear Lake. Nothing is better than going out to represent our city in front of an arena
Every person has something inside them that defines them as an individual. This uniqueness can take many forms and could be visible to the outside world or quietly hidden, deep inside. Passion for something specific is often the guiding factor in developing one’s uniqueness and often in ways that were not foreseen. My love of ice hockey has changed my life in ways that I could not have imagined and has shaped my personal growth. My ability to stop a hockey puck defined me; or so I thought!
Hockey is an extremely competitive sport that is based on continuous efforts between two opposing teams whose objective is to score on the opponent’s goal. Some aspects that come in to play include ice skating technique, stickhandling, and speed. However, instead of sitting back with family or friends and eating snacks while watching the hockey match. Have you thought about what truly goes on behind the scenes or how momentum can impact the players? Today we will discuss the background of the Minnesota Wild versus the Florida Panthers on February 28th, the objective and subjective aspects of the hockey match, the aftermath, and an overall reactions of the players/coach.
Friday night rolled around, it was the game we had all been working so hard for. Knowing we were seniors, we knew it would be the end of the journey.
Probably one of the most important decisions I've made in my life happened this year. The decision was me , choosing whether i wanted to do drumline or play hockey. As a freshman going into the first year of highschool, it lead me to think of plenty of things. But one important fact that stuck out was me deciding if I wanted to pursue music or sports. As a freshman , I knew that I couldn't balance sports and marching band at the same time. Rehearsal for marching band happened everyday after school until 5 pm. I knew I couldn't do homework and study for tests with only 3 hours if hockey started at 9. So, I made the decision of choosing drumline over hockey. Not only would it help me balance my time doing homework, it would also help me on my
As I layed in my bed on a cold and windy Friday night, i could hear the roar from Fenway park across the street. The Red Sox had a game tonight against their long time rival the New York Yankees. Their games would always be so thrilling and so exciting to be at, i was a young 15 year old boy who like everyone else wanted to be a MLB baseball player. I had always dreamed about playing on that beautiful and playing against those Yankees. Living in Boston mostly everyone here absolutely hates the yankees. I was having a hard time going to bed so i looked outside and was looking at all the people outside walking outside the Ballpark.
It all started when I got on the Ice. I thought It was going to be another hockey practice...but I was wrong. This practice would end with a bloody mess. Let’s just say, I'm glad that the other catch from the other team was a doctor. My friends and I were messing around in the locker room while we were getting ready for practice. I like getting ready for hockey practice it normally is fun, or I at least just try to have fun. If we do the drill wrong, we have to skate ten laps around the rank, but the bad thing is it is an olympic rank so it is bigger then are normally rank.
Rome was known for many things, one of the biggest things that they are very skilled in, is warfare. Romans were very skilled in this area, they were known to have great fighting techniques. They would hardly ever lose a war. They were very smart during battle. One of the techniques that they used was that they would fight on higher grounds against their enemies in order to have a height advantage. Of course, they would only do this when the battle was in their territory. Another great technique that they had was making sure that the sun was behind them and that the wind was also behind them. How smart is that? They used many other ways to confuse the enemy. Rome was in a lot of wars.
A defining moment in my life was when I decided that I wanted to be an athletic trainer when I grow up. I knew I wanted to be athletic trainer because I want to stay in the athletic field once I finish my athletic career. For me there is no better job than one that I can interact with athletes on a daily basis and help them prevent injuries. Knowing my career path early helped me lay out my academic goals, this also brought up some challenges.
For thirteen years I have played the game of hockey. I have played hockey for more years in my life than I have without playing hockey, yet my career and favorite activity will soon come to an end. I have played with many different teams and many different players in my hockey career and I made sure to make memories with each and every moment. I have some of my best memories, as well as my worst while traveling for and playing hockey. Some teams have been great as well as the players, but the past three years have been the most memorable of them all.
SOI-The purpose of this creative piece of writing is an entry from one of our hockey games from tournament. I have tried to use a connection to compare battle or war to hockey, to make the story become more brutal and realistic. I have written in first person to show that it is in my perspective and what I recollect from the game.
