Depression is considered to be a serious mood disorder and is different from normal depressive attitudes (Humphrey, J. A. 2012). Individuals with depressions have different mood swings such as, feeling down as everyday stresses, and life changes occur, this is sometimes temporary and can fades away within a few weeks (Humphrey, J. A., and Schmalleger, F. 2012). The American Psychiatric Association considers depression abnormal only when it is out of scope to the event and continues past the mark at which most people begin to recover (Humphrey, J. A. 2012).Depression is nothing new, it has been a social problem throughout history, even in bible times (Furman, R. 2003). Depression is considered to so prevalent that it has been referred to as the "common cold" of mental illness however, unlike the common cold, depression can be fatal, and has been referred to as the world's number one public health problem (Humphrey, J. A., and Schmalleger, F. 2012 & Furman, R. and Bender, K. (2003). …show more content…
A., and Schmalleger, F. 2012). Anxiety disorders consist of panic disorder, obsessive- compulsive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and phobias (Humphrey, J. A. 2012). Anxiety disorders may branch from precise situations or objects, as in the case of phobias, or more, vague circumstances (Humphrey, J. A., and Schmalleger, F. 2012). Personality disorders are portrayed by “long- standing patterns of maladaptive behavior that constitute immature and inappropriate ways of coping with stress or solving problems” (Humphrey, J. A2012). Personality disorders are usually recognizable during childhood, and many have a lifetime or near-lifetime duration (Humphrey, J. A., and Schmalleger, F.

particular group of people whose symptoms are indicative of personality disorders, and are between neuroses and psychoses (Manning, 2011, p. 12). Personality disorders are extremely pervasive because they effect a person’s “mood, actions, and relationships” (Manning,
Torgersen, S. (2009). The nature (and nurture) of personality disorders. Scandinavian Journal of Psychology, 50(6), 624-632. doi:10.1111/j.1467-9450.2009.00788.x
Bearing in mind that an anxiety response is a result of various factors, there are different types of anxiety disorders. The most common type of anxiety disorders as described as specific phobias, social anxiety disorder (SAD), panic disorder (PD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). According to Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA) (2016), specific phobias affect about 19 million adults in the U.S, while SAD affects 15 million, PD affects 6 million, GAD affects about 6.8 million, OCD affects about 2.2 million and PTSD affects 7.7 million adults respectively. Considering that anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S, yet only about one-third of those suffering receive treatment (ADAA, 2016).
One kind of anxiety disorder is obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). This disease can ruin a person's life because it causes them to have repetitive thoughts and behaviors towards certain things. Life can become very difficult because this way of thinking and acting is very difficult to overcome, especially since the obsessions have no point and are stressful for the person. It begins to interfere with the person's school, work, and/or home.
Anxiety disorders cover a broad pool of psychological diseases it is impossible to fully analyze. If you where to see anxiety disorders from a biological perspective it will be categorized as a kingdom because it covers many disorders. Anxiety diseases are very extensive and vary among all patients. Some of these disorders are very hard to control and far more difficult to fully cure. Never the less there is always a treatment or a way that could improve the life of a patient suffering from panic attacks, specific phobias, obsessive-disorder, major depression, bi polar disorder, and posttraumatic stress disorder.

Clinical depression is very common. Over nine million Americans are diagnosed with clinical depression at some point in their lives. Many more people suffer from clinical depression because they do not seek treatment. They may feel that depression is a personal weakness, or try to cope with their symptoms alone. On the other hand, some people are comfortable with admitting their symptoms and seeking help. Such a discrepancy may account for the differences in reported cases of depression between men and women, which indicate that more than twice the numbers of women than men are clinically depressed. According to the numbers of reported cases of depression, 25% of women and 10% of men will have one or more episodes of clinical depression during their lifetimes.
Personality disorders are a class of mental disorders characterized by enduring maladaptive patterns of behavior, cognition, and inner experience, exhibited across many contexts and deviating markedly from those accepted by the individual's culture (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). For an individual to be diagnosed with a personality disorder “the person’s enduring pattern of behavior must be pervasive and inflexible, as well as stable and of long duration. It must also cause either clinically significant distress or impairment in functioning and be manifested in at least two of the following areas: cognition, affectivity, interpersonal functioning, or impulse control” (Hooley, Butcher, Nock, & Mineka S., 2015). Unlike some other disorder
Depression is an illness within itself that affects the “whole body”. (Staywell,1998) The body, feelings, thoughts, and behavior are all immensely altered when someone is depressed. It is not a sign of personal weakness, or a condition that can be wished or willed away. For some people depression is just temporary, but for others it can last for weeks, months and even years.
One of the types of psychological disorders is anxiety disorders. These disorders are broken down into five categories: generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, phobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). All of these categories describe disorders in which a person displays extreme fear or nervousness. People will become afraid of objects, social situations, animals, reliving traumatic events, or many other things. People suffering from these types of disorders will become prisoners of their own fears inhibiting them from functioning normally in society.
Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress. Every person experiences some form of anxiety in his or her lifetime. Anxiety helps us deal with tense situations like using our flight or fight reaction, study harder for an exam, or keep focus on important deadlines. Anxiety can be useful until it gets to the point of interfering with everyday life. Some people explain it as not being able to shut the anxiety off. When anxiety becomes an excessive, irrational dread of everyday situations, it becomes a disabling disorder (National Institute of Mental Health, 2009). Each year, anxiety disorders affect about 40 million American adults age 18 years and older (National Institute of Mental Health, 2009). There are five major Anxiety Disorders they include Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Panic Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Phobias.
Anxiety is a feeling of wordiness, nervousness, or unease. There are different types of anxiety such as Social Anxiety, Panic Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), General Anxiety Disorder, Agoraphobia, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. 15 million people worldwide suffer from this disease. People with Anxiety are prone to depression, which means they are likely to have depression. More women are affected by anxiety than men.
One may suffer from one, two, or all of them. The main anxiety disorders are Panic disorder, Phobias, and Obsessive-Compulsive disorder (OCD). The NMIH estimated “in The Numbers Count that approximately 40 million Americans suffer from anxiety disorders” (11). Each disorder may involve different negative effects and symptoms. Panic disorders may be unexpected or caused by circumstances in one’s surroundings (Source 4). Negative effects and symptoms of having a panic disorder involve weakness, terror, and sweating (Source 4). The second disorder is phobias. A phobia is a fear of an object or situation one chooses to avoid (Source 3). Some examples of phobias one may suffer from could be the fear of clowns, bees, and heights (Source 4). Symptoms and negative effects of a phobia are technically in the definition, which would be fear. There are no symptoms or negative effects of phobias like sweating or nervousness, it’s mainly just about fear. The third disorder is Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), which “is marked by unwanted, intrusive, persistent thoughts or repetitive behaviors” (DSM 1) (Source 3). Just like phobias, the symptoms and negative effects are technically in the definition. These symptoms and negative effects would be persistent thoughts or repetitive behaviors. Instead of suffering the symptoms from an anxiety disorder, they may choose to get treatment or find
Depression isn’t just a state of being, or someone’s mood. There are different types of depression, and each of those types have their own lists of symptoms and treatments, all similar but they have some differences.
