Maeley Elsbury ENG 106 Amee Schmidt 31 March 2024 The Resilience of a Loving Mother is Undeniable The strength of a woman and the love they have for their children is undeniable. Women are born with this instinct to care for, protect, provide, and be there for their children no matter what happens around them. After reading the short story “Anyone Can Do It” it is clear that Delfina is a very caring mother doing her best for her son. Delfina is the story's protagonist, and her resilience shines through during all the trouble she experiences. In a paper called The Resilience Workbook, it says, “Resilience is the strength of body, mind, and character that enables people to respond well to adversity. In short, resilience is the cornerstone of …show more content…
Delfina makes the move with her husband and son, but most often it is just her and her son. Delfina’s husband is off working in the fields with the other husbands, but they never return home. Delfina is a selfless character who proves her resilience time after time. In the new house, Delfina meets one of her neighbors, Lis, who comes over and introduces herself. At first, Lis seemed friendly and welcoming, but quickly changed the subject to Delfina’s family car and wanted to use it. When Lis asks to use Delfina’s car and suggests working at the orchards, Delfina is reluctant and puts up a guard, saying “Oh I don’t know.I don’t know the first thing about working in the fields anyway.” This shows how Delfina is resilient because she is standing firm in her decision despite the temptation or pressure to give in. Delfina originally says no, but later on in the story she gives in and because of her kind heart agrees to the deal, even though she didn’t want to deep down. Most importantly, Delfina is always trying her absolute best for her son, no matter what is happening around …show more content…
Not only does she push forward, but she doesn't let any of the conflicts happening show up to her son and she puts on a positive environment for him. Munoz provides instances in the story that allow us to connect to Delfina, such as not feeling like she is doing enough. To some people, it might look like Delfina is not setting her son up the best or giving him everything she can, but if you put yourself in her life for just one second, you will be able to see her resilience. The theme of resilience in the face of betrayal is depicted through its setting, characters, conflict, symbols, and point of view in the story “Anyone Can Do It”. Delfina goes through the absence of her husband, having her car stolen, and struggling for money, all while trying her absolute best for her son. Resilience looks different for everyone, but when digging deeper into the story, it is clear that Delfina truly is a resilient person, even when life is trying to tear her

Thesis: Haiti is a country that’s been subject to poverty and underdevelopment for as long as we can remember. However, before its independence, the former French owned colony of St Domingue was the most fruitful and profitable colony the kingdom had, so much that it was even called the crown jewel of France. After the country declared its independence in 1804, it was shunned both politically and diplomatically by the rest of the world. In this paper we will explore how between 1804 and the mid 1900s the world powers at the time, whether it is France, the USA or even Germany contributed to making sure that Haiti’s efforts never came to fruition economically.
...dia's position on the outside of everything forces her into a position of greater strength. Although hurt, the observations she makes mold her into being able to handle difficulties more easily. The loss of innocence which Claudia faces unintentionally is vital to the role she plays in society and in her life. Her thoughts hold a more realistic view of life and human behavior. She sees the pains and sorrows that life truly is constructed of. Claudia feels that she has missed out on so many opportunities and is not included the way others are. Her strong character generates a feeling of both isolation and separation, but, in reality, she tastes life more closely than most people are able to in a lifetime. Although Claudia's passion to be included is unrequited, she is filled with the strength, character, and pain that make her a more knowledgeable and resilient person.
Resiliency is one concept that has never been the human races forte. Many things that happen in our current day and age require a great deal of perseverance and resiliency. People often will give in to the problems in their lives and learn to accept them, instead of persevering through them and working out the issues. The fact of the matter is, if you learn to persevere through problems, your life will be a lot more happy and pleasant to live. In Tennessee Williams’ play, “ A Streetcar Named Desire” suggests that you cannot give up on issues; you must be resilient to those issues and persevere to be happy.

In the historical fiction novel, A Long Walk to Water, by Linda Sue Park, Salva, the main character, is very resilient, and his resilience helps him overcome hardships. Being resilient means he is able to bounce back from difficulties. This is shown in many ways throughout the story. One area where this is shown is towards the beginning of the story, after Salva flees his village because of war. After this, Salva is left by an old woman who was feeding him, and taking care of him.
He uses her struggles to provide evidence to support his thesis that anyone can overcome challenges and achieve success. His use of the metaphor for being thirsty to succeed is deeply moving and shows just how important his mother’s success is to him. In his ending, he
The writers utilize value appeals effectively throughout the article, appealing to the audience's concern for the well-being and development of children and teenagers. One value that the writers emphasize is the importance of resilience and mental strength in children. They argue that by overprotecting children and shielding them from stressors, parents are hindering their ability to develop resilience and cope with challenges later in life. This aligns with the audience's likely value of preparing children to handle adversity and become independent individuals. For example, the writers assert, "But brief periods of normal stress are not harmful; they are essential," emphasizing the importance of exposing children to manageable stressors to foster their resilience.
We can build resilience in the inner strength to face obstacles head-on with bravery and fortitude by facing adversity head-on. In the future, our investigation of the belly of the beast archetype will lead to a more profound understanding of the human condition. Through studying how people deal with their own belly of the beast experiences, we can learn more about the common struggle for growth and resilience in the face of
