Defund, or not to Defund? Defund Lani is having a hard time deciding on what to do. She recently went out with some girls, had a couple of drinks and woke up with a strange man. A couple weeks went by and she started noticing that there might be something growing inside her. She’s debating on if she should abort it,but even if she does keep it her tax dollars are still funding planned parenthood. What's the point? So she decided to do some research on planned parenthood, she shortly found out some shocking news about this facility. If we defund planned parenthood, then people would be saving a lot more money and planned parenthood wouldn’t profiting around $6 million wasting people’s time and tax dollars. The research that Lani’s …show more content…
Some things you might find are “fetal tissue research” that's one of them, and that's a big thing because Republicans and conservatives have supported this research for a long time they're also allowing the support of Reimbursing planned parenthood for the costs of “extractions.” Fetal tissue research may be legal and it has been federally supported for years now. This is regulated by law and Clinton is the one who funded it. Fetal tissue is used for trying to devolve brain disease remedies and for fixing spinal cord injuries. Their is dead baby tissue in people's bodies. Secondly, Jeb Bush (governor of Florida) made a statement “I'm not sure we need half a billion dollars for women’s health issues” Hillary Clinton and other democrats were outraged by this, but other people started wondering and asking questions about how much money they really make, and what planned parenthood does with it and if defunding it would actually save taxpayers money. Planned parenthood revives $500 million a year just in government funding, but to be more technical $528 million according to planned parenthood last annual report. But that totals a little over 40 percent of their total $1.3 billion for last year, which hints that they're in a bit of financial trouble. Undercover videos were taken of what planned parenthood does with their money, these videos reveal that planned parenthood actually sells fetal tissue. So in order for them to do this, the government has to target low income Americans in order to keep funding planned parenthood. Wasting more people's
As I was looking through dozens of articles about the topic of pro-choice I came across one article that
At first fetal tissue stem cell research was "conducted without and scrutiny from the public sector" but after Roe vs Wade things got a little more heated. In 1928 Italian researchers performed the first ever, documented, "procedure" with fetal tissue where doctor took the pancreas of a fetus and "put it in" a patient with diabetes to see if the patients condition would improve how...
“Federal Funds Should Not Be Used for Research That Destroys Embryos.” Stem Cells. Jacqueline Langwith. Detroit: Greenhaven Press, 2012. Opposing Viewpoints.
There is a common misconception that Planned Parenthood is a center for abortions, and that is it. The truth is, only three percent of Planned Parenthood’s services relate to abortions. Planned Parenthood receives $500 million in federal funding and it is illegal to spend any of that money on abortion services. In CNN ’s article, "Planned Parenthood, by the Numbers”, there are clear statistics about how Planned Parenthood manages the money they receive and how a majority of their work focuses on
Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization that is government funded and offers free health care, sex education, and family planning to millions of women all over the country. (“Who We Are”) The organization was founded by Margaret Sanger in the 1960’s. Her mission was to provide free health care to women all across the nation despite their race, ethnic background, income, etc. She also vowed to educate and care for women’s sexual health while maintaining their privacy. As of late, Planned Parenthood has been a target of controversy, with a possibility of being defunded. Why or why not should the government continue to fund this organization?
Unquestionably, stem cell research is unethical on multiple accounts. Firstly, embryos are human beings and even though they’re a few days old they are not a “pre-embryo,” a term stating that after conception, the embryo was actually not an embryo. Thankfully, that term is now known as scientifically invalid. As soon as the
The common misconception about Planned Parenthood primary does abortions but that is simply not true. According to the reports from Planned Parenthood of America only three of all Planned Parenthood health services are abortions and not every Planned Parenthood clinic provides abortion services (Planned Parenthood Federation of America). A recent Pew Research Center poll recorded that two-thirds of voters under thirty believe that abortion should be legal in most or all cases (Laguen 2). This poses a bigger question, should the government be able to govern over women’s
One of the major issues in the cultural war is the idea of abortion. The Republican Party supports the human life amendment while opposing abortion funding. They “assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed [upon]” (Republican Party Platform ). The Republican Party also strongly promotes adoption and abst...
President- elect, Donald Trump, and Vice President- elect, Mike Pence, have stated their views on Planned Parenthood and how it should be defunded; especially Vice President elect, Mike Pence, who has a history of trying to defund Planned Parenthood. In 2007, Mike Pence introduced a bill to defund Planned Parenthood, and kept pushing for it until it passed in 2011. "If Planned Parenthood wants to be involved in providing counseling services and HIV testing, they ought not be in the business of providing abortions," Pence told Sarah Kliff in 2011. "As long as they aspire to do that, I’ll be after them." So after this troubling statements and bills, I decided to set the record straight. Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit reproductive health care organization. It’s services provide STD testing, pregnancy prevention, contraception, counseling, cancer and HIV tests, and abortions. Planned Parenthood is a well rounded health care organization for men and women. They use their resources to help you not the other way around. Planned Parenthood is a program designed to help all human beings. Planned Parenthood shouldn’t be defunded; instead it should be keep being available to all human beings visiting or living in the
...ates that human embryos must be destroyed in the process of taking their cells, and it is never ethically acceptable to destroy human life for the purpose of "benefit to the many." She also rejects the use of discarded embryos to further stem cell research, and indicates that although stem cell research is legal it is morally unethical and should not be furthered or expanded beyond the government's limitations. This argument is the foundation of the moral opposition to federally supported stem cell research. However, many scientists argue that a country that does not support attempts to alleviate human suffering is also acting immorally. Lempert and Dixon assert that morality requires responsibility and by failing to fund human embryo stem cell research while allowing privately funded research to proceed, the federal government is nullifying its responsibility.
Planned Parenthood had challenged the laws in all three states and was said to be gratified by the decisions. “We are pleased with these rulings because they protect women’s health from being sacrificed to a dishonest campaign to demonize a safe and medically necessary procedure.” Planned Parenthood continued," And we are reminded again, as all Americans should be, of the importance of a fair-minded and independent federal judiciary.”
With so many women choosing to have abortions, it would be expected that it would not be so greatly frowned up, yet society is still having problems with its acceptance. Every woman has the fundamental right to decide for herself, free from government interference, whether or not to have an abortion. Today, more than ever, American families do not want the government to trample on their right to privacy by mandating how they must decide on the most intimate, personal matters. That is why, even though Americans may differ on what circumstances for terminating a crisis pregnancy are consistent with their own personal moral views, on the fundamental question of who should make this personal decision, the majority of Americans agree that each woman must have the right to make this private choice for herself. Anti-choice proposals to ban abortions for “sex-selection” or “birth-control” are smokescreens designed to shift the focus of the debate away from this issue and trivialize the seriousness with which millions of women make this highly personal decision. Any government restriction on the reasons for which women may obtain legal abortions violates the core of this right and could force all women to publicly justify their reasons for seeking abortion.
It became a major issue in 1997/1998 and continued to the 2000’s where George W. Bush joined to the problem by vetoing the first bid that was brought forward by Congress to lift funding restrictions on human embryonic stem cell research. Bush stated after the veto that, “would support the taking of innocent human life in the hope of finding medical benefits for others” and also he stated “It crosses a moral boundary that our decent society needs to respect”. Bush was also supported by children that he said, “began his or her life as a frozen embryo that was created for in vitro fertilization (in vitro means the technique of performing an experiment in a controlled environment outside of a living organism) but remained unused after the fertility treatments were complete… These boys and girls are not spare parts”. Later on that year, Bush signed a bill to ban the creation of human fetuses for the sole purpose of harvesting organs. Soon after, the House proposed another bill that they had hoped him to sign to promote efforts to conduct stem cell research without destroying human embryos. Bush had called it “an important piece of legislation”, but several politics said that it would distract attention from his veto for the funding for human embryonic stem cell research.
A mother kills her unborn child because it is unwanted, but she's not charged for murder. Is it right? There is about 46 million abortions per year worldwide, and approximately 115,000 per day, but why? Is it because rape or incest, health problems with either the mother or the child, or just because the baby's unwanted or inconvenient at the time? (The Alan Guttmacher Institute.) Abortion should be banned because too many babies are being killed from abortion, if you don't want a child you could always put it up for adoption, and most mothers don't understand the consequences that occur from abortion.
