Definition and History of Alternative Schools
The first thing one should know is what alternative schools are and how they came about. The World Book Encyclopedia (2003) defines an alternative school as, “… any public or private school that differs from traditional schools in curriculum, purpose, or teaching methods.” This definition can be traced back to the 1960’s, when free schools were created. These types of schools usually consisted of a small number of students and staff. During this time period, there were many popular beliefs about children and education. First of all, people believed that children would learn things at their own pace. Secondly, teachers and faculty were supposed to be mentors, rather than figures of authority. In comparison to public schools, which were seen as oppressive, free schools were a suitable alternative for many students (Miller 2002).
One of the main reasons why this was the case, is because the free schools took student’s needs into consideration (Boss 1998). The needs for a flexible curriculum and self-paced learning were met by the free schools. All of these ideas have remained a part of society, as seen by the development of current alternative school settings.
Funding
In order for alternative schools to continue to operate, adequate funding is necessary. Thus, schools should work to gain a place in the budget of the local school district. According to the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory (2001), there are many ways in which alternative schools can be funded. Funds can come from local school districts, grants from state or federal governments, and or donations from local businesses. It is possible for some alternative schools to run based on a combination of sources.
Purpose of Alternative Schools
Students who attend alternative schools do not necessarily lack the ability to learn. The main issue that students struggle with is that they each have different needs when it comes to learning. According to the Waterville Alternative School (2003), located in Waterville Maine, public schools are created on a “one size fits all” basis. That is, there is one set curriculum, one set schedule, and one set teaching style. Each student is expected to learn at the same pace, however, this is not the reality. Thus, alternative schools have been created as a way to meet each student’s individual needs.
Desert Storm was a part of the Gulf War, Desert Storm was a codenamed Operation to get Iraq soldiers out of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. This was the first foreign crisis that the U.S. got involved in since the Cold war. It was because of saddam Hussein. Saddam ordered his Iraqi army to cross the border to Kuwait. This wasn’t some random attack by Iraq. but instead Iraq had been preparing for this for years, they knew what they were doing and were heavily equipped with weapons.
Many of Federal Way's alternative high schools or high school programs are actually schools within the Federal Way Public School System. The city also has private schools, special education schools and religious schools but they are not designated as alternative schools. Students in Federal Way have many options when it comes to education.
The Gulf War, also known as Operation Desert Storm, the Persian Gulf War, The First Gulf War or The Kuwait War. Was a war that started 2 August 1990 when Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait. The war lasted to 28. February 1991, when President Bush declared a ceasefire. The war ended unofficially the 26th, when the Iraqi troops started to withdraw from Kuwait, after finishing their mission. The Coalition air forces continued to follow and bomb the Iraqi troops, even after the retreat started. They kept killing Iraqi troops, and a Highway 8 became known as the “Highway of Death”.
... Kuwait to get to the southern part of Iraq. In this situation, Iraq was left cornered. Also the movement of some of Osama Bin Laden's beliefs had greatly affected the war. This brought forth many opposing forces against the United States.
Desert Storm, one of the most successful military ops in military history. They went in and went down to business then gone out just like every other mission should be done. Despite its brutality this Op could be decided as a U.S. victory.
As Source A stated, “forced schooling: six classes a day, five days a week, nine months a year, for twelve years.” Source B also outlines the strict scheduales in schooling by presenting a bell scheduale that is followed every day in a public school. Both Source A and Source B present arguments about the ridig structure of the school system. There is very little individuality within school days, students are required to be in every class and repeat these expections for twelve years. As Source E adds, “nothing of what it costs to repair the damage that these angry and resentful prisoners do every time they get a chance.” Source E is quick to compare America’s school system to America’s prison system in that public school presents structured days in oder to promote conformity to all. These constant and long school says that America’s kids are exposed to every day hardly promote creativity, free time, or individuality for children. Instead, it promotes conformity and teaches kids to be able to sit for eight hours a day bored out of their
As a result of Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait on August 2nd 1990, Operation Desert shield was implemented by the United States on August 7th. Trying to deter Iraq from advancing farther into the country the U.S. began staging troops, equipment and other supplies needed to sustain a military in war time. Moving resources by air and sea the American armed forces presence was made known in the region with resources being staged in the allied countries of Saudi Arabia These later we mobilized initiating operation Desert Storm on January 17th 1991 at 3am Arabia Time when the first tanks rolled across the Saudi border, this conflict would continue until the official cease fire would take effect on April 11th of the same year (Operation). During the 10 month time span of the Persian Gulf War I, Military Sealift Command had conducted the largest modern sealift operation of war materials of the American military. The ability for the United States to mobilize and sustain during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm displays America’s national security goals of forward power projection, maritime supremacy and the effective planning of their sealift strategy.
This paper tells about different methods as to which parasites enter the body. Each parasite is unique as to what problems they cause or diseases they carry. Some of these parasites can prove fatal unless treated, and if they are not treated carefully, they could still complicate an individual’s health. This paper also includes the places these parasites thrive and as to how to treat these parasites. Although most of these parasites are treatable, the treatment required is completely dependent upon what stage the parasites have progressed to. Some parasites are accompanied by a disease and are therefore not the primary health risk of getting infected. Nevertheless, if left untreated all of these parasites can host the body for large periods of time, which can lead to prolonged illness. Most of these parasites are found in third world countries, but under the right conditions can be found in the United States of America.
This disease may be on the brink of being eradicated entirely but that doesn’t stop it from being one of the grossest things that anyone has ever seen. The parasite enters the body via unsafe drinking water. When people drink water infected with water fleas that have have been hosting the larvae of the parasite. There are no symptoms, to begin with, but about one year later, blisters on the feet or legs begin to develop and then the adult fully developed worm crawls out of the host body over a period of a few weeks. It’s said that the pain is intense and can incapacitate a person for weeks at a time. The pain can also continue for months after the infection. The parasite needs to infect a person at least once a year in order to continue. There were an estimated 3.5 million cases in 1986 but the disease has been greatly reduced over time and only 22 cases were reported in 2015. This disease will probably be the first parasitic disease to be completely eradicated in humans.
Its principal means of attempting to objectify its morals are realistic planning — including deadlines, schedules, and objectives— documentation, laws, and regulations, irrespective of its ethical content. Our education system is flawed and outdated, failing to meet the international criterion of our world every day. A traditionally-educated student is not given enough time to learn the limited amount of subjects taught and do not develop a desire to learn. In light of the current situation regarding the education system, there is still hope for students today. An alternative to traditional education, unschooling allows students to use their natural learning abilities, discover and explore more subjects not typically taught in schools, and ignite a genuine, authentic interest to learn. The advantages of unschooling far outweigh its disadvantages, making it the better option for education. Education leaders continue to discuss reforming the present public education system. Instead, they must deliberate about how to replace it. I urge you to take a stand. Start off by writing a letter to your local lawmakers expressing your wish to help students’ education. Share your ideas with a friend. It is not important where you begin, so long as you
...vasion (4). This operation was under General H. Norman Schwarzkopf commands (4).Thirty four nations decided to ally Kuwait in this operation and giver its full assistance (1). The US led a huge air war against the Iraqi forces to annihilate them completely (4). It also commanded the tanks to proceed towards the enemy camping area and force them to surrender (4). The Iraqi forces sensed the danger they were in and started launching scud missiles at Israel and Saudi Arabia in an attempt to end the coalition (4). The alliance troops entered Kuwait along with the USA troops and cleaned the Kuwaiti streets from the invaders (4). On 26th February 1991 Kuwait was freed from the Iraqi invasion (4). The Kuwaiti people were very happy and they were waving with the Kuwaiti flags as the coalition troops were driving among them. That time was unforgettable to all who witness it.
Motivation is an important source of help towards succeeding. We can receive it from our family, friends, and our teachers. The one thing that I have realized about the alternative school is that the teachers and staff will never give up on you. In most public schools the teachers tend to give up easily on a failing student because they don't have the time and opportunity to get to know you and work with you. It is different here at Rose Alternative High School. The teachers continue to push you to work harder, to never give up.
The discovery of Kepler-186f is a huge venture to discovering planets like our planet Earth .This planet is named Kepler-186f and it is one of five planets that have hitherto been caught by NASA's Kepler space telescope in circle about the star Kepler-186. This star is more diminutive and cooler than the Sun, of a sort called a M-dwarf or red dwarf, and all it’s referred to planets are little too, with sizes short of what 1.5 times the measure of Earth. The planet Kepler-186f is the most modest, being inside 10% of the measure of Earth and circles farthest from the host star, inside the habitable zone. This is the locale around a star inside which a planet can support fluid water on its surface given the right atmospherical conditions. The Kepler-186 planetary framework lies toward the heavenly body Cygnus, something like 500 light-years away. (planet Astronomy space explora)
In a traditional school, much time is wasted. The students need time to change classes, get out their homework, pass out papers, etc. Even getting to school is a long trek for some students. In a home schooling setting, these trivial tasks are greatly reduced. For example, the first day of school in a public or private traditional school normally means a lot of paperwork and administrative tasks. Students spend most of the day getting lockers and filling out emergency cards so t...
