Booker T. Washington says “Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome.” Before I define success what do you think success is? What are some goals you set in your life? Success isn’t just some old result, it is achieved by efforts, hard-working, having optimism. Success is something that will not be handed to you. You will have to go get it; figure it out your self. The truth is success doesn’t have a definition. With each person success means something different so there is no real definition for success. I have an example that comes from the book Scratch Beginnings Adam Shepard says “It’s about finding happiness and solace in your present lifestyle.” He means happiness is a part of being successful in life it plays a big part in pushing you forward to do what you want to do in order to meet or exceed your goals in …show more content…
life. That is really how you achieve success. Adam also says “I learned that we are the product if our surroundings our families, our peers, and our environment.” What he means by this is the things that are around us is what makes us who we are. It’s what really has an impact on our definition of success. Another quote from Scratch Beginnings says “Could be worse. I could be moving for a living.” I was thinking, “Could be worse. I could be broke.” The people who were broken were thinking, Could be worse. I could be locked up.” Which is saying never take what you have for granite remember it could always be worse than what it is for you now. Happiness comes from appreciating what you already have in life. (Shepard) Studies about the relationship of happiness and money seem to be a dime a dozen. Money increases certain types of happiness that other things don’t. University of Michigan professors sound that more money means more happiness. Happiness increases along with income up until $75,000, after which point it plateaus. If money can’t buy happiness, happiness just might generate money. Everyone has a different impaction on what success is either that’s with money or without money. (Poppick) Lets take The Great Gatsby for example. “The poor son-of-a-bitch,” he said. Even though Gatsby had money he called him poor because no one showed up for his funeral. Meaning that he was poor with his relationships with people he let his ego get the best of him. Yet he was very wealthy with money he wasn’t truly happy he had no friends and he never got the girl he wanted. Money couldn’t make him happy no matter how much he tried. (Fizgerald) You don’t have to be happy to be successful.
Sarah Vermut asked What criteria do you use to evaluate yourself? Could it be your bank account, Degrees Collected, Relationships with friends, family? Look up the meaning of Success. Success means Accomplishment, fame, prosperity. We understand that real success is about happiness. This is true because if we achieve the goals we set for our self of course we would be happy. (Vermut) Another way to look at success is to look at what failure means. Failure means failing to achieve aims or objectives. Everyone fails and is unhappy at times that’s why you can’t define success with happiness or how you haven’t failed because even wealthy people go through the struggle. (Mueller) Near the beginning of Adam Shepard says “A shower was not at the top of my priorities.” He is explaining that we have to ignore what is not important for us to complete our task to not let anything get in the way of our goals. Its important to have drive, perseverance, an attitude that focuses on the positive so that success can be achieved.
(Shepard) Don’t think just because you’re not happy or you don’t have money that you are not successful just ask your self what you wanna do with your life. You don’t have to be better than anyone else. Personally define success and personally define happiness. (Vermut) Adam makes a good point when he says “I opened a bank account where I deposited my entire paycheck.” This shows he was making progress but it tells you that success isn’t something that you gain all of a sudden it takes time and you have to work hard to achieve it. Shepard didn’t have any money and he wasn’t happy yet he was still successful with his experiment. (Shepard) You can be successful in any way you want it doesn’t matter what money you have or what kinda car you got, you can be happy, sad or mad and still have success. It matters where your heart is and where you have been and if you are satisfied with your life. You define success for yourself you are the only person that can answer that question everyone has a different interpretation of success.
Generally speaking, success isn’t just about what you accomplish in life, it’s how you accomplished it and the impact you
Success can be an extremely broad subject. There is an abounding amount of different views on what the “true” definition of success is. Personally, I believe that success is finding happiness. Success is waking up in the morning and not having to worry about whether or not the bills are going to be paid this month. Success is having a job that you enjoy going to every day. Success is having friends and family who love and support you. Success does not mean that one has to be exceedingly rich or have a lakeside mansion. As long as they are happy, they have succeeded in life.
´´ If one advances confident in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life he imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. ’’ These words were spoken by Henry David Thoreau.Success is within the mind of the individual. A large portion of one´s life is spent working to become successful. People are told throughout childhood to work hard so they can grow up and achieve all of their dreams. But success takes many different forms. Different people have different interpretations of what success means to them. It does not matter how related they are to each other in certain áreas they always have a different point of view of what success really is. For some success is measured by social status and wealth
There is no concrete definition for success, and there is not a foolproof way to obtain it, but it is something many strive for. In Outliers: The Story of Success, Malcolm Gladwell explains, with examples of successful people throughout history, that hard work along with a little bit of luck and willingness to seize every opportunity is the only way to become successful. Malcolm Gladwell illustrates throughout the story external factors that are mostly uncontrollable and internal factors like hard work that are very controllable lead to these outliers and unimaginable success stories.
Success is not earning a fat juicy check at the end of each month, or being a part of a large social group filled with fraudulent people that appear as familiar faces. But it is a person discovering him or herself after they had been lost and establishing a sense of purpose that makes them fills them with a warm glowing sense of accomplishment. Success does not have one transparent definition, it has various meanings depending on what success means to the individual trying to achieve it. Success is surviving.
Hoosiers once said " If you put your effort and concentration into playing to your own potential, to be the best that you can be. . . in my book we are going to be winners". This quotation is relevant to the question of What does success mean to me? I believe success is about learning what you are capable of to achieve your full potential being successful in your life. For you have a better understanding, I will explain success is about being achievable in your own way and being able to see yourself grow in your personal life and perspective of how you see yourself becoming successful. Success is not only about the choices you make to become successful, but about how you approach the way to become successful.
Success is within the mind of the individual. A large portion of ones life is spent working to become successful. People are told throughout childhood to work hard so they can grow up and make lots of money. But success takes many different forms. Different people have different interpretations of what success means to them. For some, success is measured by social status and wealth; for others success is determined only by the amount of happiness one feels.
There has always been the age old question, “What does true success mean to you?” For many centuries, everybody has given their own definition of success. Whether it is money, happiness, love, or power, everybody has their own definition of success. Stephen Covey, a popular author, once said, “If you carefully consider what you want to be said of you in the funeral experience, you will find your definition of success.” I believe that everybody has to realize what real success means to you. Everybody has aspirations for their life, and coming to terms with those aspirations can set one up for successful life. For past centuries, and still today, success has always been associated with how much money and power you have. When googling the definition of success, the definition, “the accomplishment of an aim or purpose” pulled up, and I have got to say that I agree with it. Success can’t be defined as few things such as money and power but instead reaching your purpose in life. I perceive success as an individual realization process that comes to one through hard work, perseverance, and living the happiest life you can live. Success is about learning from the process, finding balance, making a difference, and living the best life that you can live.
Successful is a simple word, however, the meaning of this word changes quite often. Each person has a different definition of success and that definition can change depending on the situation. Bob Dylan once wrote, “A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night and in between does what he wants to do.” This a very broad definition of success and should not be used. The definition of success should be “the pursued goals have been adequately accomplished.”
Success only truly comes with being happy. Happiness and success are the accomplices of one another. Someone cannot have accompanies without the other. Happiness brings success, and success brings even more happiness. Success, in the dictionary, is defined as the achievement of something desired planned or attempted. Therefore, success cannot be judged by anyone than oneself. It is a personal thing. It is the realization of goals, desires or plans made by one 's self. It is not measurable and yet is something we always use to compare others or appraise someone 's worth. Success, in one form or another, is something that someone should always be striving for. For some people it is something they will do subconsciously, and for others it will be something they will constantly labor for. Because success is something that is different for everyone, it is best that they measure their personal success by their sense of self worth instead of others. To have succeeded is to have lived, as someone wanted; ' it is to have lived well and laughed
Success, a word so commonly used. Success is always associated with money and fame, but what does it really mean? Success is simply an effect. It comes from hard work and effort. Success can come from something as little as getting an A on a quiz to graduating from college. Success comes from many different levels. I think one can be successful in many ways. The First was to be successful is that one must be able to see Success out of many situations. If one never sees success and are never able to point it out then that person will never truly feel successful. Secondly one must work hard and not just expect results. Finally one must be determined.
But success is more than just being smart in class and earning a high paying job as an engineer. Success is achieving goals set for yourself and not stopping until those specific goals are accomplished. Success is not always about money and fame but about proving to one’s self that the impossible really is possible if the right mindset, and attitude are there.
The true definition of success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. Although, many people have different perceptions of success. Success is judged by the individuals themselves. Success can be defined in many ways including: wealth, happiness, fame, etc. Success can be anything from material goods to concepts. It all depends on your concept and how you achieve your goals. You have to have persistence within yourself. Varying on your profession, you will need a certain skill level. Your definition of success can be suitable best for you, but not for others. It is about truly not giving up, reaching your full potential, and self-fulfillment.
There are many different answers to what success is this is due to the diversity that we as people have. We are exposed to different things throughout life that allow us to determine what success truly means to us. We might not experience the same things and we might not feel the same way about certain subject, but in the end we all want to reach the ultimate goal of being successful. Success to me is reaching enlightenment and making a difference in the quality of your life as well as the life people live. Being raised with a different mindset from others have influenced what success means to me.
According to the dictionary, success is defined by the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors; the accomplishments of ones goals. As definitions go, I think that that is a fair one for success. However, I believe that everyone has their own definition of success based on their own personal successes. Some may say that it could be wealth, prestige or position in life but, I think that it is more personal than that. I believe that success is the overall contentment with the position you have in life and no desire to climb any higher. This could be construed as inaccurate because we will always want to climb up hire in life but, if we are relatively content with the position we have attained in our careers, family lives and social lives, then I think that we have reached success. Career position is fairly self-explanatory but, family and social standings are different. If part of your definition of success includes having a spouse and three children and be considered upper-middle class but, as of now, you just got engaged and are a poor college student, you have a lot of work to do. This may seem shallow but, I know many people who define success as being the proud parent of two children and be comfortable from a monetary stand point. Back on point, to achieve success you need nine things; personal responsibility, self-motivation, a life plan, goals, self-management, interdependence, self-awareness, lifelong learning, and emotional intelligence.
