Success… What is success? The definition of success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. In relation to the quote ‘Success is always temporary’ it is portraying the message that people who often have success haven’t or will not always have success. Throughout media and society, it is portrayed to us that success is not the key to emotions such as happiness and fulfilment because you are always left wanting more and what you have if never enough. Through researches that have been conducted it shows that people with nothing are often happier than people with everything, this is because people who don’t have success or much of anything are often happier because they are grateful for what they have and are not looking for more but are happy …show more content…

Often people come overwhelmed with these ideas of wealth, fame and success and can lead to their down fall and changes in personality and characteristics. These changes can be seen in all the texts that have been listed above however when looking at success and how it has changed someone the texts ‘Amy’ and ‘Taylor Swift’ portray the modern equivalent of how wealth and fame change people and not always for the better. The documentary drama ‘Amy’ is a good example of how someone can change once they have become famous and have gotten wealthy, they change in order to deal with the stresses and everything else that comes with the job, however as it can be seen in ‘Amy’ the changes that Amy faced were not good and often has negative consequences on her career and health. The wealth, fame and success that Amy faced bought her to the dark side of society and turned her to drug and alcohol problems in order to deal with the stress and anxiety of the job and her everyday life. This problem and change in personality causes her ultimate downfall when she passes away due to drug overdoes because of her obsessive and addictive …show more content…

An example of how media have shaped the views of people is the ‘Taylor Swift article’ a3nd ‘Amy’. Media played a vital role in representing these musical celebrities, often they are represented negatively with the changes they go through and in reference to ‘Amy’ the addiction stages she went through and the changed of her personality and individuality in order to deal with the fame, wealth and success. Society and the representations that they hold against people are more focused in the texts ‘The Great Gatsby’ and ‘Searching for Sugarman’, although at the time these texts were created and the events that were occurring were long ago, media was not major factor of representing people and media was only in the forms of newspapers and radio. Gatsby was represented through rumours and other people’s views and perspectives, this shows how although people such as Gatsby have great success, wealth and fame people still do not know huge amounts about people and others only focus on the information that can be seen as interesting and gossip instead of the facts. ‘Searching for Sugarman’ can be seen different in the perspective of how society has represented someone, in this text people don’t know much about Rodriguez however they have views that they have created through small amount of information
