Extended Definition Essay People have various definitions for the word “destiny”, and even the majority claims that they hold their opinion against it for they believe that there is no such thing as destiny. However, from my own view point, destiny is why we exist. How “destiny” is defined in the dictionary is basically how people normally take it. “The things that will happen to someone in the future, especially those that cannot be changed or controlled.” it is always linked to things that are predictable and that causes most rejection of opinions. No one would like to admit that their future is plain and predictable just like teenagers do not recognize how they are not as unique as they think. I believe that life is a written book and every
Well there is always the fate aspect in everything that occurs in our lives but majority of the outcomes created from the individuals own decisions. It is up to the individual to determine what can occur, if they do one thing then something will be the outcome. A side from that, there is always the possibility of being at the wrong place at the wrong time which can have an affect of on the outcomes of life.
Destiny, also known as fate, is said to control the outcome of one's life. However, does destiny really determine what occurs in people’s lives on a daily basis or is it just a made up word to be used as an excuse when things don’t go as planned? The Truman Show is a 1998 film directed by Peter Weir that shows us that the decisions we make define our destiny rather than our destiny defining our decisions. Without knowing, Truman Burbank has been the star of a reality tv show since birth. Having no control of the events that happen in his life, Truman decides to get out of the town that seems to keep him hostage. Truman could have decided to let Christof, the creator of his world, keep him in Seahaven for
Fate vs Free Will has always been one of the most controversial topics from early history, and for no surprise because everyone is fascinated about their future. Many people believe that life is predetermined and anything you do won’t transmute your future. Others believe that you are sanctioned to mold your own destiny and optate your own path. Your mind, for example, has total free will up to the point where you believe that everything you think is controlled by faith. Then you wouldn’t have a free thought because all that you will think was always going to be thought, and thus making faith decide you. Whatever the case may be, one thing is for certain and that is that we’ll never know the future because it is beyond our ken.
There has been a long debate on if a person can control their destiny or not. Macbeth, by William Shakespeare and The Sports gene by David Epstein both have similar views, that says a person cannot control their destiny. Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, follows the life of Macbeth and his best friend Banquo on their lives towards their ultimate fates/destinies. The Sports Gene, by David Epstein, follows the journey of Donald Thomas to finding out that he has a skill in high jump. Shakespeare and Epstein both have similar views and have details about their reasonings; even though the two pieces are very similar Shakespeare better answers the question, how much of what happens in our lives do we control, because he has multiple reasonings and
Destiny or fate is a controversially talked about subject that has arised for many years. ‘Destiny is referred to as a predetermined course of events.’ Many people, especially in Shakespearean times, believe that God has a life plan for every individual. A sense of destiny in its oldest human sense is the soldier’s fatalistic image of the ‘bullet that has your name on it’ or the moment when ‘your number comes up’ or a romance that was ‘meant to be.’ Many Greek legends and tales teach the futility or trying to outmanoeuvre an inexorable fate that has been correctly predicted. Today we have people that can ‘predict out future’ whether we nowadays still have the belief in the stars and the ability to read them is another controversial matter. Elizabethan astrology fascinated many prominent Elizabethans. The subject is mentioned in every single one of Shakespeare’s plays. At the time the play Romeo and Juliet was published Robert Burton was the astrologer of the era. In Shakespeare’s plays astrology was often critical to the plots when the actions and events surrounding characters are said to be ‘favoured’ or ‘hindered’ by the stars. In the tempest the main character is said to be based on John Dee, who was a famous astrologer and scholar in the Elizabethan era. Destiny is the idea of necessity ‘everything in the world is conditioned and takes place according to necessity.’ ‘Fatalism is based on the assumption that everything in the world and in peoples lives is predetermined by natural or super natural forces, that God set everything out.’ Destiny also mans ‘dragged by force.’ If Romeo would have stayed in his, not gone to the Capulet’s party, left the party when Capulet saw him would all this of happened? That is the idea of destiny...
Each individual in this world has a distinctive identity. Even twins and triplets, who appear to be similar in their physical traits, have separate individual identities. After taking the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, I was able to affirm some of my specific personality traits that define me. I am active and curious and I never tire of adventure. I enjoy every bit of my life. Until now, I have discovered just a portion of my specific identity, but I will reveal the mystery of my identity in this exciting and adventurous journey of my life.
Fate is the end that you will eventually reach. You have no control over fate, anything and everything you do is to get to that destined end. Free will is your own choice that will impact the rest of your life. You dictate your actions.
Fate is non-existent as one's future is based upon their own personal decisions. It is believing
Fate can be defined in many different ways. Webster's Dictionary defines fate as a power that supposedly predetermines events. Fate is synonymous with the word destiny, which suggests that events are unavoidable and unchangeable. Whatever happens in life is meant to be and cannot be changed by mankind. In Shakespeare's Macbeth, fate plays an important role in the lives of Macbeth, Lady Macbeth and Banquo.
I believe that one's fate is up to the actions of the individual. If everyone agreed that fate was determined and that you could do nothing to change your own fate life would be a boring, monotone series of events structured out with no change. I believe that every action that you make changes the outcome of your life and the smallest events can have some of the most magnanimous affects on your life. In my experience it is the small decisions that you make that impact the larger decisions that you make later in life. For example a small task such as forgetting to brush your teeth one morning could lead you to not speak up during a discussion in class for fear of your bad breath which could fail to change the course of the discussion and fail to impact someone in a way that could later change the course of their day. Nothing forced you to forget to complete this task you lack of memory or time to do so did. There are over seven billion people that live on this earth and it would be infeasible for there to be a set structured series of events that would transpire for each individual. Free will gives meaning and purpose to one's life. Knowing that one can change their own situation for the better and gives importance to life. Without this life would be meaningless and bland with the events of your life unfolding before you as
Fate, a term which seems to appear every so often in the everyday world, can be a powerful force when dealing with the predetermination of events. Whether in the past, present or future, fate can change how things were, or are supposed to be. As William Jennings Byran, a famous military colonel, once said, "Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is not a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing which is to happen." Fate cannot be altered and is something which must happen to everyone and everything.
Fate seems to defy humanity at every turn. A man may have his life planned out to the last second, but then some random force intervenes and he dies the second after he has completed his life plan. Some believe in fate, believing that our lives are predetermined from the moment we are born. Other people believe that everything is random, the result of some god rolling the dice in a universal poker game. Still other people believe that each and every person is in total control of his or her destiny, every step of the way. Who is to say which viewpoint is false? Every culture has a unique perception of the role of fate in our lives, and no group has the "right answer," simply a different answer. Taking into consideration the views of other cultures can help an individual refine his personal viewpoint on this inconceivable subject.
Webster defines fate as a “ a power thought to control all events and impossible to resist” “a persons destiny.” This would imply that fate has an over whelming power over the mind. This thing called fate is able to control a person and that person has no ability to change it.
It is only natural in every single human being’s life to ponder the thought about life in depth. Where did we come from? Why are we here? What happens after we die? All of these are only some of the many questions that we continue to analyze and envision about continuously. Whether some of us are religious, non-religious, spiritual, or maybe do not have the slightest clue about it, we each have a unique and personal idea of what life and afterlife has in store for us. Some might constantly compare their thoughts to famous philosophers such as Aristotle or perhaps the infamous Steven Hawking. In the end, the only philosophy that matters is our own; I personally believe that our destiny is determined by a higher God, and it is up to the countless opportunities that we gravitate ourselves toward our prosperity.
Fate can be explained simply as the purpose of ones life. There are things that occur in life that are seemingly just meant to be. William from the “Knight's Tale” was destined to be a knight, he was just slowed down by his circumstances in life but that did not stop him from achieving his dream. It does not matter where you were born or who you were born to if you put your mind to greatness. Your past does not determine your future. Fate may have a grip on what you are estimated to be but you can overcome anything you want. Fate is determined by the
