Many people often use the word “love” incorrectly. Some may use the word love when they are talking about food they enjoy, a lustful feeling that they have for someone, or even when they are talking to a spouse. When you think about it in all of these cases is the word love being used correctly? The word love is being used so loosely in today’s society that sometimes I feel like the word is losing its value. It is important to understand what love is and is not at a young age so that when you grow older you will know what love actually looks like.As a child I was taught in many different ways what love actually is. With that being said love can be towards a person, an object, or even confused with other things. When I say that love can …show more content…
Many young adults are just so quick to saying they love someone, when in fact they probably are just lusting. According to English Oxford Living Dictionaries lust is a “strong sexual desire.” Many young people use the word love when talking to a person that they have interest in when sometimes I believe that they are in fact just lusting. Lusting is one of the words that should be used in certain cases instead of the word love. They are connected but they aren’t the same so it is important to use the words correctly. One important thing to look to decide whether it is love or lust is by the level of conversation that the two individuals are willing to hold. In Psychology Today it's states that a sign of lust could be “you'd rather keep the relationship on a fantasy level, and not discuss real feelings.” If you find yourself dealing with this situation they you know that it's not love and it's just love. Prior to reading this article if I found myself talking to someone new I would pay attention to what topics and things the person was interested in doing with me. This often help me decide if the individual was actually into getting to know me or if they were just lusting. Lust is a word that can get confused with the word Love, but if you know what love is then your won't fall for
Lust is an incredibly strong feeling that can prove to be almost uncontrollable, leading it to commonly be mistaken for love. Due to the relative closeness of these emotions, both are often confused, and even when one is in love he or she does not recognize it. Many think that love just comes knocking on one's door and one will know when it does, but they don't realize that for love to occur a relationship has must be worked out. Love is described by some as fireworks, tingles, and butterflies in the stomach; but it is lust that can cause these things to happen, and it is these that mark only the beginning of a relationship. After a while, these feelings die out, and this is when the honeymoon period is over; it is from this point on that the relationship will either end or get stronger and eventually lead to true love.
Love and infatuation are both strong emotions that most will encounter within their lifetime. The two feelings are often misunderstood, but are differentiated through their outcomes and stability. True love does not only rely on physical attraction, but also on one’s personality. When one is truly in love, they accept their partner’s flaws and perfections. There is a connection between two people, in which they can make compromises and smart decisions. The love grows stronger with time and is not instant. On the other hand, infatuation occurs almost instantaneously and progresses quickly. Infatuation relies on lust and physical attraction. It can cause an individual to
Love is always being comfortable, and feeling important no matter the situation. Romeo and Juliet show the exact opposite in the play. Often times as children and teenagers, it is more common to love your parents, friends and family rather than being in love romantically. This is because you spend
The last time I saw the young man who supposedly loved me, was on my seventeenth birthday when he told me I was a waste of his time. Love is the strongest emotion and most powerful word anyone can say to someone else. Some people use the word love everyday as though it is not as big of a deal as it really is. Jewel's song, "Always," illustrates a definition of love.
Today, many people are arguing about whether love at first sight is real or if it is lust working it’s magic. Love is a strong thing composed of different chemicals that course through your body. There’s also psychological reactions to love, like that of lust. Love at first sight may seem like a far-off dream, but there might be a way to change that.
Some people get the word love mixed up with lust. People do this because they tend to forget that when in love, sex is never a necessity but an accessory to the feeling. Lust and love have so many differences it is considered ridiculous. Some people say that they love someone just to get the physical action that is so commonly wanted but never really needed. Lust is something that is completely physical, while love is the complete opposite. Love is a feeling so euphoric that everything, but at the same time nothing m...
Love is defined as an intense feeling of deep affection. Love is a universal emotion that can be felt at any age, yet most adults believe that adolescents are incapable of understanding the meaning of romantic love. According to Nancy Kalish in the article “Teenagers in Love” from Psychology Today, she states that a person’s early experiences as a youth, help define that person’s attitude about love as an adult. Kalish claims that “first love, young love, is indeed real love” (Kalish). However, this claim is misinterpreted
There are several different definitions for the word love. Love is a simple four-letter word, with a multitude of caring and feeling behind it. There is a difference between loving somebody and being in love with somebody. The love between two best friends or between a husband and wife are the types of love that people want to last forever. However, there are no guarantees that it will last forever. Furthermore, the love between family members and the love between a parent and child is the kind of love that will last a life time.
“I love you.” These three little words might possibly be the most powerful statement one can make to another person. In life, most yearn for the intimate affection that a certain someone can provide them. Women dream of their Prince Charming to come and sweep them off their feet, while men search for the love of their life that sets their heart on fire. But what happens when love is thrown around without a second thought? Has this four letter word become an overused cliché? Has love been replaced with lust? Is there such a thing as true love? This last question has been asked throughout history, while many have argued and debated over the final answer. We, as a society, have become a loveless, sex crazed group of people with no concern for any emotion or attachment in our lives. So does this mean that true love does not exist? No. This only shows that achieving the deepest of feelings takes work that our fast-food eating, TV watching generation is not prepared to handle. I believe that true love does exist, but has merely been pushed aside by convenience, superficiality, and apathy.
Webster’s dictionary defines love as “affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties.” Wikipedia, however, defines love as “an emotion of strong fondness and personal attachment. In philosophical context, love is a virtue representing all of human kindness, compassion, and affection.” Who’s right? Love is an abstract noun, meaning that there is no concrete form of love.
I think one reason why people use the word love so carelessly is because of what our culture portrays it as in books and movies. Love is portrayed as more of just a feeling that can come and go and has no real meaning behind it. You see so many examples in books and on television of married couples having affairs with each other but constantly expressing their love for one another. It makes no sense to the real meaning of love and just portrays to the audiences that love really does not have much meaning behind
Falling in love can be one of the most unexplained feelings a person can endure. There are two sets of feelings that are the basis of modern romantic relationships. The first is the attraction. Attraction is the excitement you feel when falling in love. To better explain this feeling, attraction is what you feel when you meet someone new who really excites you and you begin to feel aroused when thinking about this person.
Love is a strong affection for one another. Attraction to another is based on a desire that each of you have for each other. You should always feel compassion when you are with the one you love even though you might have different flaws. You should still love each other flaws.
“I love you.” These three small words have such a powerful meaning. Love is something for which every human since the beginning of time has searched. From the quest for the perfect guy or girl, to yearning for acceptance, the search goes back to the individual’s desire for love. The dilemma is that love has become hackneyed and cliché. People fling around the word love as if it is nothing when in reality love is such a powerful word. People use the word love when in reality they should be using the word lust or infatuation. Society tries to replace a person’s need to be loved through sex, which does not work because that person just ends up getting hurt. Does true love really exist, or is it as bogus as a fairytale? The poems, “Let me not to the marriage of true minds,” “To My Dear and Loving Husband,” and “True Love” make the argument that true love is possible. True love is a very real thing, but people equate true love with romanticism. True love does not happen over night; it takes time and trust to build true love. True love is a powerful force which neither circumstances, time, nor any person can destroy. The reason for the twisted view of love is not because of Disney Princess movies, but instead is the result of the overuse of the word. People will say, “I love you” to someone they have only known a few days or to mere food. At times people treat loving others like admiring food; one cannot treat a person like food because food cannot actually return the affection. If a person commits to loving another, it is not right to leave if the significant other changes. This is not love, but rather a strong like or infatuation. True love is unconditional love and is not based on the lust or looks. The poems, “Let me not to the ma...
What is love? Love is a very special and meaningful word to each human being. Each human being has his/her own thoughts about love to guide himself/herself to land safely and smoothly into the kingdom of Love. Without this preconceived idea of love, people would be acting like a blind person searching for the light with thousand of obstacles in front of him.
