Recommended: Analysis of hope
According to Oxford Dictionary, hope is defined as a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen. However, it is so much more than that. Hope is the light in the chasm of darkness. When a person falls down, hope gives the person strength to get back up. Hope pushes people to strive for their goals. Regardless of who it is, hope has impacted everyone in one way or another. Anyone who wants to get out of a dark time or depressing situation needs and deserves hope. Hope is truly a precious thing. Hope is like a warm, crackling flame in a sea of frigid snow. Hope can make a person stronger in the weakest of times. Hope can help the person fight their physical or mental battles. Hope can do remarkable things to the dreams and …show more content…
“It’ll be a nice change,” my mother rationalized ,”We’ll live in a different house.” “Why are we moving?” I inquired. “Yeah,” my brother whined,”I like Arizona.” “My job got relocated,” my father said simply. “Cheer up,” my mother said, seeing our dismayed faces,”you’ll get to make new friends.” I had never felt so miserable in my whole life. Regardless of our protests, within a month we were packed and shoving our boxes into the huge moving truck. I watched my old house slip away for the last time. I stared out the window and watched as the sand turned into green grasses. The temperature decreased from a hundred degrees fahrenheit to a seventy. Every mile we went it felt like the weight of the past got lighter and lighter. By the time my family and I got to California, I began to have hope that we could start over. Hope is having faith that things will get better. After my grandmother died, I had lost hope that life would ever go back to normal. However, after we moved, I regained hope. Hope has influenced me to see the brightest in any situation. Hope impacted me by making me strive for my goals. This experience also taught me that everyone needs and deserves hope. Even a speck of hope can bring a little light into to the darkest of
“Hope is defined as the action of wishing or desiring that something will occur.” Hope helps people move forward in life to see what’s coming next for them. For example, “I had no right to let myself die. What would he do without me? I was his sole support” (Wiesel, “Night”.) This quote explains the effects of hope in a pitiful situation. Eliezer Wiesel and his father were torn apart, mentally and physically from everything they
Hope isn’t just a word, it’s a feeling. Moreover, it’s a word, a feeling, and a desire. In the Urban Dictionary it defines hope as, “A feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen. A feeling of trust. To want something to happen or be the case.” So it’s true, hope isn’t just a word. In The Diary of Anne Frank, Anne has
In the Shawshank Redemption a theme of hope is evident throughout which is to be expected in a film about prison. In the Shawshank redemption hope is used to drive people to get out of the prison in Andy’s case and to travel down to Mexico based off of what a note said. Hope is often used in movies but just as much in real life and often helps people make it through a tough experience or to find something they have been looking for. I use hope at times to help brighten up a day or even sometimes an extended amount of time. Hope will drive you to push on and find your limits, and for this hope is the catalyst for our success in life and sport or in the movies case a drive to keep going no matter how hard.
Everyone has a different idea of hope. For example, Jamal’s and Latika’s idea of hope was their love for each other. Their love is what gave them the will to survive and get through everything that was thrown at them in life, even at such a young age. Ken Saro-Wiwa’s hope and will to survive was his passion to help people of Ogoni and change their futures forever. Saro-Wiwa didn’t live long enough to see the courage he gave to citizens of Ogoni to fight on their own, but his people gave him hope to fight back while he could. He has inspired many people, and like he said, he wanted to die trying to make something right, and he did. If either Latika, Jamal, or Ken Saro-Wiwa lost hope, they would have never had the will to survive and achieve their goals.
Optimism is the action of seeking the hope that lies in every situation. The hope is like gold or a valuable gem. It may be resting on the surface, or it may be buried deep down. Either way, if one does not actively seek it, it may never be found. Helen Keller wrote, “Most people measure their happiness in terms of physical pleasure and material possession….If happiness is to be so measured, I who cannot hear or see have every reason to sit in a corner with folded hands and weep….Only by contact with evil could I have learned to feel by contrast the beauty of truth and love and goodness.” However, there is a such thing as too much optimism. Helen Keller also explained this when she wrote, “It is a mistake always to contemplate the good and ignore the evil because by making people neglectful it lets in disaster….This is false optimism. A man must understand evil and be acquainted with sorrow before he can write himself an optimist and expect others to believe that he has reason for the faith that is in him.” A German theologian named Jurgen Moltmann backs this up by stating, “Genuine hope is not blind optimism. It is hope with open eyes, which sees the suffering and yet believes in the
"Hope - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary." Dictionary and Thesaurus - Merriam-Webster Online. Merriam-Webster. Web. 24 July 2011. .
The “Hope” is optimism. Freedom from hope is freedom to your soul. You can no longer hurt yourself by living. It is hard to believe that being hopeless leads to living, but living is an imprisonment. We try to be the best we can be but does life limit us?
The theological definition of hope is trusting in, or desiring something or someone and expecting something promising. People like to hope for something great to happen in their everyday lives. A person can hope that every night
Hope The Merriam Webster online dictionary defines hope as, “the feeling of wanting something to happen and thinking that it could happen, a feeling that something good will happen or be true, the chance that something good will happen, someone or something that may be able to provide help, someone or something that gives you a reason for hoping. ” It’s the last part of that definition that resonates most with me; however, I think most people think of hope to be something like wishful thinking. For example, one might wish or hope she makes a good grade on a paper, in a class, or finally finishes her degree.
HOPE Let us be faithful in proclaiming HOPE in Jesus Christ. The Hebrew word for HOPE means “a cord, or strong attachment.” Hope in Jesus Christ secures the spirit and keeps us balance in our Christian faith. It latches on to the reality of every promise that God has made to us through HIS SON JESUS. It is the reason every Book in the Bible points us to a factual hope for humanity in Jesus Christ.
What is Hope to you? Maybe yesterday you thought it was the only thing holding you close to reality, and the day before you thought Hope was nonexistent and fake. What if today, Hope is all you have left? No matter how much you give up on the bond that is Hope will always be beside you, wether you believe or not. Did Hope ever take anything from you? No, it never did. Always beside you, never leaving, never asking anything of you. It’s just an everlasting aura that surrounds you forever. The image of Hope is shown in the place of a bird in the poem “Hope is a thing with feathers” by Emily Dickinson. Dickinson’s poem symbolizes Hope in an ideal image that is represented by a bird. A bird that fought through everything and stayed by your side
Everything seems like it’s falling out of place, it’s going too fast, and my mind is out of control. I think these thoughts as I lay on my new bed, in my new room, in this new house, in this new city, wondering how I got to this place. “My life was fine,” I say to myself, “I didn’t want to go.” Thinking back I wonder how my father felt as he came home to the house in Stockton, knowing his wife and kids left to San Diego to live a new life. Every time that thought comes to my mind, it feels as if I’m carrying a ten ton boulder around my heart; weighing me down with guilt. The thought is blocked out as I close my eyes, picturing my old room; I see the light brown walls again and the vacation pictures of the Florida and camping trip stapled to them. I can see the photo of me on the ice rink with my friends and the desk that I built with my own hands. I see my bed; it still has my checkered blue and green blanket on it! Across from the room stands my bulky gray television with its back facing the black curtain covered closet. My emotions run deep, sadness rages through my body with a wave of regret. As I open my eyes I see this new place in San Diego, one large black covered bed and a small wooden nightstand that sits next to a similar closet like in my old room. When I was told we would be moving to San Diego, I was silenced from the decision.
Hope has brought me so far in life, and has made so many wonderful and amazing things happen for me. To illustrate, one great thing hope has brought me in life is my car. I had a car already that was bought for me for nine hundred dollars, by my boss. I was a nineteen ninety-two Toyota Camry.
