The exact dictionary definition of strong is “having, showing, or able to exert great bodily or muscular power; physically vigorous or robust” (Dictionary.com.). That is indeed true but strong is having good morals and values. Some people associate strong with people who spend all their time at the gym, getting fit, and eating right, but a strong person does not need to have great peaks, amazing triceps, or even a six pack. A strong person is a person who is strong in the heart. Strong means being brave where others are weak, standing up for what one believes in and not backing down. Strong means being the best one can be. My mother is an example of a strong person. She has a full time job and comes home every night to make dinner, clean, …show more content…
They can also be someone who is vulnerable, fragile, or even broken. It does not matter what an individual looks like on the outside. Whether they are easy going, shy, forceful, or outgoing, they can all be strong. Sometimes a strong person is one who does not speak his or her mind very often but says a little prayer on the side. Whether people realize it or not there is always someone they can go to who will support them no matter what. That person may not always be so obvious and may not even be a close friend, but they will be there to support and comfort those in …show more content…
They are the people to count on. However, sometimes when there happens to be a difficult situation a person may learn that someone they thought was their best friend may turn out to be someone who leaves them in the dust. Someone who is weak will leave others to fend for themselves and deal with whatever they are going through alone. The weakest people are the ones who stoop to the lowest level, bullying. Bullies take out their pain and frustration on others. They are people who are insecure and want to make themselves feel better by making others feel worse. If people stand their ground and stop putting up with bullying, the bully will realize they have no power over others and move
Beowulf used his strength for respect and recognition. As he became older his great strength was beginning to become weak. The weakness of his strength and the lost battle against Grendel’s mother was overwhelming to Beowulf; however he realized that his time was over and he would be remembered as a great hero in all battles he won.
Some heroes show their strength in the form of smarts, emotion, physical strength, and much more. Beowulf displays a remarkable amount of physical strength, and mental strategies.
Similar to Fezzik and Inigo, Westley is very strong. Fezzik, by far, is the physically strongest character in the entire story, as he is a giant. He most commonly displays his strength by carrying multiple characters while on strenuous journeys. He first carries Buttercup alone, then, he carries Buttercup, Inigo,
The capability of a hero to possess superior physical strength is the quality that sets him apart from the other warriors. In the beginning of Beowulf, Beowulf is described as the, “follower and the strongest of the Geats, greater and stronger that anyone anywhere in this world” (lines 110-111). This represents Beowulf’s strength by stating he is the strongest man in the world. In addition, Beowulf demonstrates physical strength when defeating Grendel. During the battle, “[Grendel] twisted in pain, and the bleeding sinews deep in his shoulder snapped, muscle and bone split and broke” (lines 390-392). This quote describes the part of the battle when Beowulf rips off Grendel’s arm with his bare hands. Obviously, Beowulf demonstrates super strength because he is able to mutilate Grendel without any weapons. Furthermore, the most prominent event in the poem that signifies Beowulf’s super strength is when he is able to use the large sword to kill Grendel’s mother. The sword was, “but so massive that no other ordinary man could lift its carved and decorated length. He drew it from its scabbard, broke the chain on its hilt” (533-535). Due to the fact that Beowulf had the ability to break the sword off of its chain and pick it up with ease proves that he possesses super strength. Emphatically, Beowulf exemplifies undeniable super strength of an

He shows this by simply ripping Grendel’s arm off in fight between them. Also Beowulf shows him being strong by purposefully opening up the hall again to make the monster come so he can kill it. “He might think less of me if I let my sword go where my feet were afraid to, if I hid behind some broad shield: my hands alone shall fight for me, struggle for life against the monster.” (265-269). He exemplified great courage when he defeated Grendel and his mother to save Hrothgar's kingdom. Also Beowulf really shows strength just by being able to fight everyone and protect the town all by himself. No one else wanted to help the townspeople or had the courage to do so, so Beowulf is really strong in all aspects, mind and body. This is exactly how Beowulf was really

A denotative definition from the 15th century, according to the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary (10 ed.), portrays brave as meaning, "[from Old Italian and Spanish, meaning courageous, wild; probably from Latin, meaning barbarous]." The dictionary then defines brave as "a. having courage: dauntless b. making fine show: colorful, c. excellent, splendid." All of these distinct definitions find their capacity in The Tempest. Prospero could be said to define bravery when speaking to Ariel when he likens Ariel's bravery to being "firm, so constant...coil would not infect his reason"(I.ii.299). Ariel's spirit is courageous and wild for he takes on the powers that be in order for Prospero to enact his revenge on the usurping Duke of Milan.
At first, Mabel's strength isn't very apparent. The initial scene, presented from her brother Joe's point of view, makes it appear that Joe may be a strong, dominating voice in the story. Furthermore, Joe and his brothers speak harshly to Mabel. The three brothers know what they're going to do now that they have to leave; Mabel does not. When Joe and Fred Henry question Mabel about her plans, she has little to say. In her silence, she seems small and weak. Ironically, it is in her silence, however, that Mabel gains her independence and strength.
