Beauty, how do we define it? Why is beauty so important among us? These are some of the questions that will be discussed in this paper, leaving a clear understanding of what “beauty” is and the many qualities which define “beauty”. We are regularly challenged with “beauty”, trying to define what it is and what it’s supposed to be, who is and who is not, and what is and what is not? Beauty is denotatively described on dictionary.com as “the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations (as shape, color, sound, etc.), a meaningful design or pattern, or something else (as a personality in which high spiritual qualities are manifest).” While in humanities …show more content…
This is the state of contemplating a subject with no other purpose than appreciating it. For most authors, thus, the aesthetic attitude is purposeless: we have no reason to engage in it other than finding aesthetic enjoyment. Aesthetically, we appreciate beauty by using our senses by appreciating fine art in a museum say the Mona Lisa, taking a walking in garden filled with our favorite flowers and trees, devouring our favorite meal; or even finding an oasis in the dessert. Nevertheless, our imagination can also aid with our aesthetic attitude. Finding ourselves happy when we think of our family and friends is a beautiful thing, love is beauty, and beauty is love. Beauty can be shapes, familiarity, fine art, music, lyrics, or prose. Beauty can also be the cosmic colors of the rainbow, the sounds of cascading waterfalls or the delicate sounds of Mother Nature. The sweet smell of rain on a hot summer night and waking up to bright sunny day the following morning, these we find please is us and brings joy, as do so many of the qualities of beauty …show more content…

beauty before we can truly cherish other forms of beauty around us. “Two or three things
This effect leads to realizing the beauty in everyone; their physical aspects, talents and minds. Further allowing for the recognition of the beauty in knowledge, understanding, and beauty itself. Objects and concepts do not possess beauty, but beauty does possess them. Once beauty is recognized in all things, love easily follows. It is human nature to love physical beauty, but realizing beauty takes many forms in all things, it can be loved by anyone.
In brief, beauty is something that is aside from you. It is something you do not have to worry about. Nevertheless, we must be afraid of the sublime because we cannot understand it and therefore, is dangerous to us. We must at least decide is it poses as a danger to us. Just as Maureen Rousseau restated from Kant’s “Critique of Judgement” about the notion one can fear God without being afraid of him because we cannot resist God. It makes sense what Maureen Rousseau says when she explains that we can be fearful of the sublime but we can also determine if it something be afraid of. Maybe that is why we have the quest for beauty because we have nothing to fear from beauty. Beauty is ultimately something we admire and want.
The term ‘beauty’ is synonymous with the female face and body, it is rarely applied to men in the discussion of aesthetics. Beauty is theorised across art, aesthetics, sociology, psychology, and scientific and cultural studies.xxxxxx
The subjective element of beauty involves judgment, not opinion. Many people feel beauty is only something seen by the eyes. St. Thomas Aquinas views beauty in both the supernatural and natural orders. Aquinas lists the attributes of beauty to be found in nature. These are; unity, proportion, and clarity. We will see how these attributes of beauty are seen through the eye and felt by the heart.
What is beauty? What are the qualities that are included in the definition of beauty? “Generally, beauty refers to the characteristic or characteristics of an object that entail human pleasure to one or more senses. Beauty cannot be negative or ugly.” (Beirnet)However, there are various concepts of beauty across the globe. “In Nigeria, big and heavy women are considered beautiful and admired. In Burmese traditional view, women with long neck are considered beautiful.” (Plotnick 603). So if there are different concepts of beauty around the globe, how can we hail the most beautiful girl in the world? Thus, beauty pageant comes in.
Berger claims, “beauty is always an exception, always in despite of. This is why it moves us”, because there is rarely a glimpse of beauty in the harsh distain of nature, when there is a moment where the clouds clear and the sun peaks through, it moves us (82). Berger calls this the “aesthetic emotion”. It is difficult to explain in words, but is an emotion grounded deeply in all humans. Think about the sunrise, or a waterfall, or even something as simple as a flower. That warmth in your chest? That’s the aesthetic emotion. It is hope for a brighter future and, as the villagers who hang the white birds in their kitchens and chapels during long and cold winters; it is a reminder of summer and brighter days
The definition of beauty is varying among different people in the world. Even though almost everyone knows the term beauty, many people are struggling in defining it and persuading others to agree with their opinions. Beauty is defined by a combination of qualities existent in a person or thing that fulfills the aesthetic feels or brings about profound gratification. Many people define beauty as a term to describe a person’s physical appearance; they often think that beauty comes from magazines, video girls, or even models. Although the term beauty can define a person’s physical appearance, true beauty lies in the way one acts and thinks rather than the way one look.
What is beauty? People have always attempted to find, create, and pursue it. A quick checkout at the grocery store will reveal a plethora of magazines devoted purely to what they call beauty and the proper pursuit of it. Most have an idea of what they might personally define as beauty, but not as a general, sweeping definition. That which one might label ugly another might call absolutely stunning. Some find beauty in cats, others in dogs, just as some favor early morning mountain ranges over a sun setting over the plains. “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” is the favorite adage quoted by many to explain for this discrepancy, but what does that quickly-spat out phrase even mean? In reality, while the adage is partially true, beauty is not relative or subject to our human whim - it is an ideal created and truly attained only by God, which as His children we are to reflect in love.
Be you. Do you. Beauty can be defined in many different ways, it just depends on the person. Something that makes a person beautiful is not only looks the most important is having a great personality. Confidence, wisdom, and kindness are some of the examples of a beauty personality.
Throughout history, civilizations have admired the beauty that the world has presented, but isn’t beauty held in the eye of the beholder? The word can be used to describe a variety of things. It can describe places, animals, objects, people and even ideas. However, the one beauty our society embraces today is human beauty. Because the perception of beauty differs from person to person, different ideas of beauty developed throughout history, which in turn formed standards for human beauty, and these standards have had a massive impact on today’s society.
Beauty can be seen by a person in several ways, and it is perceived by most to be only skin-deep. According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, “It is the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit.” Additionally, the definition from the Oxford Dictionary says, “Beauty is a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight.” In short, beauty is described as something attractive and likeable to the eyes. Nonetheless, beauty should not be seen on a physical level, but it should also encompass a person’s character. To further elaborate and understand beauty, one should know how the media perceives beauty towards
“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”(www.Philosophytalk.org). The question is does the moon know that it is beautiful. Someone only knows they are beautiful because someone else has told them. If no one ever tells you that you are beautiful then do you believe that you are. The problem we have is there are people who never get told they are beautiful and the only imagine of beauty is what they see on tv and if they don 't look like that then they think they are not beautiful. If you believe something is beautiful it’s based off your personality and individuality. How you think for yourself the decisions you make on your own the clothes you wear to make you feel good. The key word in all that is you. What you believe is beautiful may not be to someone else that does not mean it is not considered beautiful its just a different opinion. I think thats what we need to understand, everyone is different and being different isn 't a bad thing, it means you are brave enough to be yourself! Be yourself. That is a major key. Coco Chanel once said “Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself” Would the world be better off if everyone agreed on what is beautiful? If we were all the same society would be boring nothing new would ever be brought to the table everyones ideas would be the same. That is the problem we have today because the world has agreed on what is beautiful and that is the models we see in the magazine a thin waist pretty face but who says that is the only form of beauty? Who says that having orange hair isn 't beautiful or being 300 pounds. No where does it say there is a certain look that needs to be attained in order to have beauty. The more you see beauty the more beautiful you
How do you judge if someone is beautiful for the first time you see them? By physical appearance is the most popular answer you may find. To the majority of people, beauty is solely depended on how a person look like on the outside. However, some might argue that inner beauty has to do more than outer appearance. It is difficult to fully define beauty because everyone has their own views about beauty. In my view, beauty has to deal with one’s self as the only rival.
Beauty is a concept. An idea that changes from person to person. We put on makeup, do our hair, paint our nails, and buy the latest clothing in an effort to satisfy those around us and conform to their idea of physical beauty. By doing this, we often forget who we are and lose our inner beauty. Although many people focus on physical beauty, inner beauty is more important because it is permanent and a representation of a person’s true self.
