Defensive Argument Essay
Some people may say they don’t really want to run track of do any of the field events. Others believe they are too slow and then the last handful of people are scared to risk getting injured. Track & Field may seem like one of the best sports to keep the human body healthy and active. But the question is how stress is but on the human body muscles when running competitively? Is it enough to pull a muscle or how about the risk of falling down on the hard rubber of the track? Possibly getting spiked by another runner whom a person may be running to close to. These are all questions that some people may take into consideration before training to run Track & Field competitively.

Many distance runner’s experiences tightness in their calves. The calf muscle group consists of the gastrocnemius muscle and the soleus muscle. The symptoms are a gradual tightening in the calf muscles which can get worse when running or improve while running only to tighten up later (Sportsinjuryclinic.net, 1). Tight calf muscles may be caused by a compartment syndrome. This is where the muscle becomes too big for the sheath surrounding the muscle causing pressure, sometimes pain and restricted movement (Sportsinjuryclinic.net, 2). Calf muscles may have gradually tightened up over a period of months through not stretching enough before and after training. Tiny micro tears in the muscles cause them to go into spasm. When they are in spasm or contracted then blood cannot easily get into them. The muscles have squeezed the blood out like a sponge. If the muscles do not get enough blood then they will not get enough nutrients and so will tighten up to protect themselves (Sportsinjuryclinic.net, 3). From experience when my calves tightened up I couldn’t walk or apply pressure to my foot. In fact while running my calf tightened up and it caused me to fall. To fix the pain that was occurring I was stretch by an athlete trainer and given water to keep
Do you comprehend what “glittering generalities” is? Glittering generalities is a vague word or phrase used to evoke positive feelings rather than to convey information to others. The type of advertisement EvoShield is using is glittering generalities. It’s a black background with a yellow EvoShield logo in the middle and right under it in capital white letters it states ¨Protective Gear For Elite Performance.” EvoShield used that advertisement to convince customers that their product is the best product out and they should buy it. “Protective Gear For Elite Performance” states that EvoShield’s gear/equipment will improve performance and limit errors that you or other equipment will commit.
Inequality and prejudice has been around for as long as the country has been founded. Beginning as a social construct, arbitrary differences, be it sexual orientation, age, and or handicapped status, have been pointed out and discriminated against. Many advocate for stricter guidelines to be placed on new laws that might seem offense and or discriminatory. This is referred to as Strict Scrutiny and it is deemed as a necessity by some in order to remain a progressive society. This means that before a law can be made it must undergo carefully inspection by the Supreme Court. (180-181) I believe that this argument does have merit and should be the standard for these types of laws, as well as in general.
The epic poem, Beowulf, a work of fiction, offers more insight into Ancient Anglo-Saxon English culture than the work of Bede, who wrote, A History of the English Church and People. The epic poem Beowulf gives an enhanced illustration and clearer understanding of the culture of the Ancient Anglo-Saxon’s. The epic poem gives the audience a picture of what the Ancient Anglo-Saxon English valued; seafaring, warriors, heroes, and paganism.
While both black and white people fought over segregation versus desegregation, black people defended their freedom and civil rights while white people focused on isolating black people and treating them as under classed.
The United States of America originally purchased Alaska from Russia in 1867 for 7.2 million dollars. When striking this deal Natives of Alaska and their lands were never taken into consideration. Ever since Alaskan Natives battled for their lands and subsistence land rights. However, it was not until 1959, when Alaska became a state, that natives pushed for a solution to their land claims and rights (Creed and Dixie). In fear of failure from previous events in the Lower 48 such as the Dawes Act of 1887, or Burke Acts, Alaskan Natives knew they did not want their culture or land to be diminished. In 1966 Native leaders in Alaska collaborated to form the Alaska Federation of Natives, which advocated for Natives rights. In 1968 the federal government
Argument can be defined as claim or thesis statement. The aim of an argument is to convince audience. It is essential to make sound argument so that audience could engage in and align with the author’s view. Therefore, one of the key elements could be identified as the awareness of audience. Another key element is evidence. In order to persuade audience, argument should be consolidated through evidence and authority. The credibility of author and argument could be enhanced by means of using evidence and referring to authorities. The strength of evidence could determine the degree of sound argument. Besides, sound argument should be logical. Firstly, evidence should be consistent with arguments. Secondly, the structure of argument should be clear. It consists of premise and conclusion. The function of premise is to state proposition. The conclusion is based on and supported by accurate premise. In sound argument both premise and conclusion are valid. However, according to Tyler, Kossen and Ryan (2005: 168) sound argument is both valid which means logically consistent and true argument. Hence, the premise of an argument also need to be true. Furthermore, counterargument could be considered as another key element of sound argument. Using counterargument in text can reinforce writer’s argument through discussing and addressing opposed opinion. However, writers need to ensure that your reply to counterargument is consistent with your main argument. The last element is to avoid fallacies. There are two kinds of common fallacies, legitimate and illegitimate methods of argument. Both of them may lead to flaw or fault in the reasoning and logic.
In this year of 2015, many people think racism is non existent. The President Barack Obama is black. There are black musicians such as, Beyonce and Jay Z dominating the charts. Some may even say there is no reason for The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Times have changed in many ways however, the presumption that racism ended is completely wrong. The presumption that America is an equal and accepting country is false. In American history, there have been triumphs against inequality. With these triumphs the country has gone into a slumber. The thought of change is the thought of ignorance.
Today, Target is the second largest general merchandise in America with many competitors but limited competition. As one may look at it, Target isn’t really a discount store but rather a superstore where a customer could get everything they need at one single location. Target isn’t an ideal store where one would want to go if they are looking for low cost product but due to their remarkable instore experience allows a consumer to spend more money than they wanted too and persuade them to come back and shop again. Target was able to grow has a second largest merchandise in America because mangers are investing in employees that are there for customers whenever they are needed.
Every person has wondered about something - whether it be a person, place, thing, law, or anything that someone can think about. They ask questions both rhetorical and actual to themselves, and usually make it a mission to answer these questions. Some of the biggest questions have something to do with culture and religion. One of the most major questions of all time - to what extent does an individual have control over the outcome of his or her life? There are many different opinions on this topic.
““Well, they had a point. You are fat and disgusting!” The therapist announced. Patricia was sobbing, eyes red and nose runny...“Come on… Let’s go. We aren’t putting up with that!” her father...opened the door and ushered the family through. The therapist just observed and no more was heard from him…[Her nervous breakdown] was a result of long term bullying leading to an episode of being run out of school by a gang of boys. They threatened to kill her with a crowbar, sticks and wooden planks. She felt like a hunted fox” (shazwellyn.hubpages.com). No matter how hard a parent might try to help their child, whether they’re being bullied or are the bully, the consequences should not fall on the people who raise them because the victims have to do what they can to make up for what they’ve done or what they’ve suffered. The city of Monona, Wisconsin has proposed a new law that tickets and fines the parents for failing to respond properly to their child’s poor behavior. A behavioral and personal change consulting specialist, Mr. Michael Harmann, hypothesized that bullying behavior is typically an effort to cover up the bully's own vulnerability. It's a primitive mindset that wants to make you pay when you show vulnerability and since bullying mostly occurs under the legal age, that’s enough to say that higher levels of authority don’t have control over the thoughts and actions that bullies use as an outlet for their own pain because it goes against the Constitution. The key to helping the children we feel so sorry for is to heal the bully before he turns into a monster and the only way to help the perpetrator is to make him face his motivation to bully. “If you think about it, a great strategy to avoid being rejected is to reject everyon...
They would not let her use the restroom so she went to the restroom in her pants in front of all the girls. She was also forced into telling everyone the people who Gang-raped her “resulting in the abortion that marred her at sixteen years old” (Callaway 53). The Aunts kept them under a strict control by using punishment because that was all that they could do. They were not allowed to be educated. They would first start at the feet if something was done wrong.
What makes a good person good? According to WikiHow, "We should learn to define our own morals ourselves. One of the simplest ways to do so is to love others, and treat them as you would like to be treated. Try to think of others before yourself. Even doing small things daily will greatly enrich and improve your life, and the lives of others around you." This quote shows us what we need to do in order to be what society thinks as, “good". In order to be a good person, you have to do good and moral things in your society consistently. However people might think that by doing one good thing once in a while will automatically make you a “good person”, but in reality it doesn’t.

Track and field is a competition between everyone in the world, and we can see who the best is in each thrilling event. Track and field is the result of someone's hard training. You should not judge yourself by looking at others, but by comparing yourself with yourself. To become strong, you need to have the perseverance to train. I am amazed at how everyone is born with a special set of genes. These genes can help decide your event or sport. There are two main types of fibers in your leg, they are fast twitch and slow switch muscles.
