According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, “The employment of high school teachers is expected to grow by 7 percent from 2010 to 2020” (“High School Teachers”) and “The employment rate of registered nurses is expected to grow 26 percent from 2010 to 2020” (“Registered Nurses”). The employment rate for teachers is slower than average, but the employment rate of registered nurses is faster than average for all occupations because of technological advancements that are allowing job opportunities to be excellent. With these two facts in mind I must make decision on which career path I want to follow now that I am attending college. Since I am currently majoring in biology secondary education I am determined to become a biology educator, but I have been considering changing my major and study track to best suit my personality and interests. I am either thinking about pursuing a career as a nurse or staying on track to become a biology teacher. By researching more in depth about these two career paths, I learned that if I want to become a biology high school teacher then I must be fully committed, dedicated, and motivated to teach the students in the classroom because teaching is a big responsibility that a majority of teachers overlook before stepping into the field of education. Any kind of teaching takes someone who is willing to make an impact on their students’ life by leading them to their full potential and giving them the most out of their education. I am determined to become a teacher not only to teach various skills and academic lessons to student, but also to help guide them to achieve his or her goals in their lives. As new nursing graduates begin the process of transition into the nursing practice. There are many challenges and issues which are associated throughout the transition. New graduates may embark their journey through a graduate program or seek employment solo. The transition period may consist of challenges, that students will encounter during their journey. This essay will identify, discuss and critically reflect nursing key challenges that student nurses may face, throughout the process of the transition phase. The nursing key challenges chosen for this essay include professionalism, preparation, personal factors, competency factors, patient- centered care and job satisfaction. These nursing challenges will be thoroughly discussed and supported by current evidenced based research and nursing literature.
Ever since I was a little girl, my motivation to pursue a career in the medical field was evident. While other children my age watched Cartoon Network, I found more value in shows like ‘Trauma: Life in the ER’ and ‘A Baby Story.’ It wasn’t until high school that I decided I would become a nurse, specifically. I cannot say that I had a revelation or a particular experience that swayed my decision. However, ever since I began pursuing the career of nursing, I discover each and every subsequent day that it is what I was put on this earth to do.
When I began this journey I knew that Nursing was all I wanted to do and in order to succeed and do well in nursing school, it was going to require a ton of devotion and sacrifice. Nursing school did not come without its challenges, not only did we have to deal with going to class, clinicals, studying for exams, but we also had to add in the factors of jobs, family, marriages, children, sickness and our daily life. But our instructors encouraged us and pushed us to keep going, and for that we are grateful because we all made a decision to stick with it, and here we are today. It seems unimaginable that just a year ago this journey was just beginning, but here we are today a year later,
While growing up and observing my teachers at school, I have learned that it isn’t always an easy job. Teachers do everything they can to teach their students’ academic, social and other formative skills. Plenty of my teachers have to deal with complications, most of them being minor, but it isn’t always an easy job helping children, teens and young adults. As a student myself, I know they can be stubborn, unwilling to learn, aggressive, and irresponsible. Sometimes, they simply don’t care. However, that is a teacher's purpose: to help and shape their students to become better learners, so that they have a clearer understanding regarding a variety of subject matters. Someday, I actually want to become an elementary art teacher, which is why I researched this career. I chose to gather more information of what skills it takes to be a teacher and what you need to do to successfully fulfill this career.

For this assignment I had the pleasure sitting down with Emily Petermeier and getting an insight on what the real nursing world is like. Emily graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Nursing in May 2015, and got a job at Fairview East Bank Hospital. This interview really helped me understand what it is like to be a new nurse and the dedication that I have to have going through nursing school and throughout my career. Life is unpredictable and there are an infinite number of paths for one to choose from as they journey through life. One “trail” that seems to be a popular choice to travel is that of an educator. Why is this? What makes the sharing of knowledge so special? Perhaps there is an unparalleled joy in enlightening someone else. Perhaps it is a combination of unlimited elements that drives individuals to be educators. And perhaps there is no one sure answer to these questions. One thing is for sure, our world has seen its share of tremendous and inspiring teachers come and go with the passing years and generations of people. Unfortunately, this world has also seen its share of educators who were not so noticeable and effective. Again, I ask why is this? What makes some teachers more effective and inspiring than others? Could the difference be discovered through viewing their individual philosophies on education? My personal conclusion to this question is a resounding YES. It is an educator’s philosophy on teaching that makes the difference. Up to this point in life, I’ve simply been a student of this world, but as I move forward in life I aspire to cross the line that all before me have crossed to become educators. How will I achieve this? More importantly, will my personal philosophy elevate me to become an inspiring and encouraging teacher? And most importantly, what exactly is my philosophy on education? It’s been my desire, longing for a nursing career since I was in my primary and secondary school. At the age of 12, I began to look after children and baby-sitting then, from there, I gained the understanding of how to deal with children. Nursing is one of the highly demanding careers that bring new challenges every day and it comes with various rewards and a real sense of job satisfaction. Nursing is a rewarding career for the nurse, patient, and patient’s family members. The career has plenty room for growth and the learning of the human body, mind, and spirit will never stop. There have been people to join the family of nursing fresh out of high school all the way up to people of 50 in age. At a university in Grand Rapids, Michigan there was a mother and son graduating from the university’s nursing program (CNI College). The two started taking classes together in 2010; with the mother pursuing a doctorate in nursing, and son going on a bachelor’s degree in nursing (CNI College). According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, the profession of registered nurses is predicted to remain healthy through 2018 (CNI College). Nursing is also flexible in programs, there are day or night classes so people with a crowded schedule with work or having to take care of a child/children, there are classes any time. Since a nursing career is bursting with opportunity for development, earning prospective, and has a moderately flexible schedule, it is a widespread choice among young adults, middle-aged men and women, and everyone in between (CNI College). Being a teacher is not an easy task as many people could think. To be a teacher does not only imply to know the subject to be taught, it also includes being willing to constantly improve oneself integrally, as much as updating the resources and materials one uses in teaching. Reflecting and analyzing over and over again the best way to teach to learn and how to make students to extend what has been learned. The many hours spend in the classroom will never be enough to plan lessons, prepare materials, review pupils tasks and exams, as well, all the administrative requirements one has to cover for whatever institution we work. Besides all this a good teacher, a professional one, will have to find the time to keep preparing to improve oneself.
First, I would like to start by stating that my expectation of a nurse is that he or she must be a good communicator, emotionally strong, empathetic, patient and calm, pay attention to detail and have good physical endurance. I feel that I possess these qualities which would make me very successful as nurse in the future. I have dream about being a nurse since I was a little girl and as a young adult, I still have the desire to be a nurse so I can help others. My desire to become a nurse evolves from past experiences that have taken place in my life; for example, my father’s death, my illness, personal experience and interaction with the hospital staff, specifically, the nurses.
Ever since I was little, my dream was always to be a Marine Biologist. Marine Biologist seems like such a fun and interesting job I would love to part take in. My Aunt is a Marine Biologist and I feel she had a great impact on me when deciding that Marine Biology is something I really want to go involved in once I’m older. I also have a goal with my life to do something that makes both me and my mom extremely proud of me.
I haven't always known that teaching would be in my future. As a young student I was always interested in science and math and I dreamt of becoming either a pediatrician or a veterinarian. Throughout high school I remained confident that I would study biology in college, but I no longer was interested in pursuing a medical profession. I realized that I loved high school and I could truly picture myself teaching one day. I started college with an open mind and over the past three years, I have become interested in many aspects of my major, biological sciences. I became involved in the animal science department and I am currently a partner in the student-run dairy herd, CREAM, which stands for Cooperative for Real Education in Agriculture Management. The group consists of sixteen students and various advisors that manage thirty milking Holsteins and make all of the decisions affecting the business. I am also interested in the field of microbiology and am currently doing my undergraduate research in the Quality Milk Research Lab.
