The Tragedy of Macbeth written by William Shakespeare is a play that shows how a person can become who they are from the life of another, but not always work out as planned. Or in other words taking advantage of other people and believing that you will eventually get away with it. Furthermore, people make plans at times, and never stop to think about how it can ruin their lives in the future, and not only their lives but the people around them as well as their family. On the other hand, the book A Secular Age, ‘The Age of Authenticity’ by Charles Taylor explains how people lives transform into new ones, and that religion is absent in some people’s lives as well. They use deception, lies and at least some sense of authenticity to complete their fulfillment or what they believe to be their devotion in life. Don and Betty’s are analogous to Macbeth and Lady Macbeth due to how Betty and Lady Macbeth’s husbands deceive others to live their lives. For example, Macbeth performs cruelty towards others because he wants to be crown as a king, and his wife lady Macbeth supports him by putting her femininity aside so that her husband Macbeth can attain the throne. According to the tragedy of Macbeth, “Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, And fill me from the crown to the toe top-full Of direst cruelty. Make thick my blood. Stop up th’ access and passage to remorse… Come to my woman’s breasts and take my milk for gall” (act 1, scene 5). This is very much like Betty Draper because she discovered Don lies about his past, and she still supports Don at the award ceremony. Furthermore, Roger was the spokesman he believes Don “is loyal, Charmin, quiet but not modest, why should he be?” then Don went to the podium, he said. “I am very honored” (season 3, episode 10).
