People do things sometimes just to make an impression on another. Whether it is an older or younger sibling, peers surrounding that person or even a love interest. Deception such as this is not always as terrible and devious as it sounds. If the truth did nothing at all and a small lie made someone happy what would you do? That may sound badly at first but do not think too far outside of this box. For this story has a happy start and also a happy ending. What I am about to tell you is not of present day but did happen in the past. Also because names and lives are mostly a private matter I will use a different name to symbolize a leading character in this story opposite the narrator, yours truly. A long time ago in a small town not …show more content…
too distant from here there was a boy and girl living their young lives one day at a time. The boy was a tall, handsome fellow with an impeccable smile and that boy was I. The girl was athletic and beautiful all around inside and out. Violet was her name. The boy knew her slightly and would often catch a glimpse of Violet in the hallways of their vintage looking high school in that small town. Long brown hair, sometimes curly and sometimes straight, beautiful bright eyes that would light up a room and she could be wearing a formal gown or even athletic clothing and still look beautiful as ever. It just so happens that in the very near future that tall boy and that beautiful girl became much closer. It turns out that violet, the brown-haired girl, loved a sport so very much that she revolved her young life around it. I was and still am a fan of sports, especially baseball. The smell of the freshly cut, dark green Kentucky bluegrass covering nearly everywhere, the feeling of red clay and dirt under my cleats being pushed around by any movement, the sounds of leather baseballs being struck with aluminum bats and those same baseballs making a snap when it smacks into the leather glove cutting its time in the air short by seconds. But most of all the warm, bright sunshine beaming down from the sky making the Spring weather just that much more perfect for baseball or anything else imaginable. How I saw baseball is how Violet saw soccer. Now I know almost nothing about the sport of soccer and to this day I still know about the same amount of information as I did then. To be quite honest I did not enjoy the sport and did not see how anyone could play it and have fun. That turns out to be a lot of people’s point of view on baseball however, and I had a thing for this girl, so I kept my opinions to myself of course. When she asked me if I like soccer I couldn't tell her no. When that beautiful light almond face looked at me and asked about her favorite sport, I supported and even said that I really, really liked it. So for some time when I was with or without Violet, I was a soccer fan.
Inside I was still an anti-soccer citizen but nobody could tell a difference. I loved going anywhere with Violet. Soccer games with her were just as fantastic as traveling to Paris in the wintertime and seeing the light snow gently fall to the ground in the most beautiful real-life painting you could ever imagine. Watching her play was of course much better. Violet was the hardest worker on the field and did everything she could to help win. Aside from watching her play, being next to her on those bleachers next to the huge grassy soccer fields created some of the best memories even if I had no clue what was going on in front of me. I do distinctly remember one memory of a game that I was watching with …show more content…
her. It was a dark, cloudy day.
It seemed as if there was a chance of rain in the sky but precipitation never fell. The temperature was a cool fifty degrees but there were still many supporters of all ages attending the event. For the life of me I can not remember the outcome of the soccer match or who we were even playing that day. That was probably because I deep down still had no interest for the sport and was there for Violet. The moment that I remember to this day that will stick with me forever happened during that game. I can remember seeing the dark sky and wondering if it will rain or not. Then something happened. The most I have ever watched a soccer match at that time led up to this moment. Our team led the ball down the field and ended up scoring a hell of a goal. When that happened I was happy, everyone was happy but Violet turned to me and her happiness changed everything. When I saw her jubilant face look at me and smile I could have been anywhere in that moment. Her bright eyes cleared up that dark, dreary day in an instant. I felt the warm rays of sunshine just as I felt during baseball season and it was suddenly the clearest and sunniest day I had ever experienced. Now the weather did not actually change around me but what was inside me changed with one look from that girl. Those bright eyes will always stick with
me. Now I am not with Violet anymore and I have not had a good conversation with her in a good while. But passing as a soccer fan rewarded me greatly. Going back to what I mentioned earlier, “If the truth did nothing at all and a small lie made someone happy what would you do?” I did choose to make a small lie but the reward of seeing that happiness was worth all of it. I would have never told her I actually hated soccer and I am glad that I never did. Passing for something that I was not allowed me to experience some of the best times and I do not regret this. What changed in me is that other’s happiness is very important to me and will continue to be. Just as I said before, deception such as this is not always as terrible and devious as it sounds and it turned out to be quite the opposite of terrible and devious.
The Deadly Deception video scrutinizes the unjust practices of a syphilis study that began in the 1930’s on the campus of Tuskegee Institute by the U.S. Public Health Service. The experiment was conducted using hundreds of African American men that were mainly poor and illiterate. The study was called the Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male. Participates were deceived and lured in by promises of free medical care and survivors insurance.
Are everyday rituals, such as, facades reflected as to being a lie? Simply preparing for a meeting or interview does not come off as lying, although another type of façade such as when someone asks, “Are you okay,” after a death of someone close to you, in reality it is a form of a lie, because you are not being honest. In Stephanie Erricsson’s article “The Ways We Lie,” she discusses many different types of lying, that most wouldn’t even consider. Ericsson claimed, “But façades can be destructive because they are used to seduce others into an illusion” (409). Depending how a façade is used, the outcome can be beneficial or damaging. There are facades that are used to cover up one’s true feelings, in order to protect an individual and then there is a type in which one puts on a mask to cover up how awful of a person they are. Charity, a former friend, deceived me with the qualities of everything she was not, my mom is a great example of when it comes to hiding when she is saddened. In this article “The Ways We Lie,” Stephanie Ericsson has a great point of view on the destructiveness of facades, although, it can very well be used in a good way just as much as in a bad way, in fact, like my protective mother, using facades for mine and my sisters own good and then a conniving friend using facades in
Edmond Rostand, a very distinguished and illustrious French author, is renowned to be an accomplished writer on culture and society, particularly the way culture plays a key role in how characters live their lives, and how society and societal ideals ultimately determine the fate of the characters. An audience can best observe Rostand’s abilities in his most famous play, Cyrano de Bergerac, written in 1897. Through the characters and their interactions in this play, Rostand sheds light on the realities of love, the dangers of deception, and the perception of inner and outer beauty. Love is a powerful word, deception is a quick way to gain little things and lose big things, and beauty is not always something the is visible to the eyes.
Over the years, soccer has changed me as a person. I love thinking back at the great memories I had playing soccer. I plan to never stop playing soccer. Hopefully, I will play on the club team at Shippensburg and never give it up. This was one of my most memorable moments in my life playing soccer. Through soccer I made friends, learned how to be a team player and helped me bring my family closer together. If it wasn’t for soccer I wouldn’t be who I am today and I am very grateful for this.
The Artful Deception of Socialistic Practices in The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin
Macbeth uses deception and lies to become king from killing Duncan to killing his “friend” Banquo. Lady Macbeth is not much better. She also deceives Duncan when he comes to stay in their castle. She later tries self-deception to rid her of some of the heavy guilt she is feeling. The witches use deception with Macbeth, toying with his life. Their false prophecies eventually leave Macbeth unprepared and lead to his downfall. While many different strategies are used in this play by Shakespeare to get Macbeth the kingship, deceit is the most prominent and important in the entire play.
One of the most common forms of deception is the inevitable self-deception; the simplest lie to form is a lie to convince oneself. Throughout William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, self deception is shown as pride among the characters. The play is set in Messina, Italy during the 16th century and at its core is a story of love and the deceptions that create love. Two of the main characters, Beatrice and Benedick, are both towards the end of the acceptable age for marriage and could not be more similar; pride and wit prevent their expression of true emotion--while their exterior reflects that of a confirmed bachelor or bachelorette, internally both wish to find their perfect match. Don Pedro, a prince and soldier, devised a plan along with numerous members of the Leonato household and the military to get Beatrice and Benedick to marry--which was eventually successful. Deceiving Beatrice and Benedick was necessary for them to openly express their love, however was unnecessary for them to fall
Many individual’s lacks the ability to struggle through the hardships of life; thus as a result, many are forced to overlook life’s problems and pretend everything is tolerable, or to escape into a fantasy in hopes of a better life. Within the play Hamlet, by William Shakespeare it is argued that truth sets individuals free and along with this truth, people’s illusions are broken. This behavior of disillusionment is clearly evident in the plays main character Hamlet. As the play progresses, Hamlet is bombarded with truth about others that ultimately changes his point of view about life. This new found truth resonates within Hamlet and forces him to come to the conclusion that life is evil, painful and it’s subjected to “the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune.” Through this insight Hamlet’s life structure collapses, but he is able to, for the first time, judge the world for its true merits and adapt to make sense of the world.

I remember it as clear as day. It had been a fairly normal week, and a routine average day. It was a Friday and I was driving home from school in my trusty Toyota Tercel. I was getting into the dreaded mental set of the game that I would be playing in that night. I had to play in the band at halftime and it was the first performance of the season. The whole ride to my house I thought about the game and hoped and prayed that we wouldn't make huge fools of ourselves. Before I knew it, I was already home. I remember thinking that it felt like the shortest drive ever, getting to beautiful Rolling Oaks. When I got home, little did I know, that there would be a huge surprise waiting for me that would change my life forever.
I can still remember that day. All the beauty of nature collected in one moment. I can still feel the sponginess of the winter-aged leaves under my feet. I felt as though I was walking on a cloud, the softness of the leaves cushioning my every step, they were guiding me along the wooded path to a small creek. The humming of the water moving with the crispness of the air, together they were singing a promise of a fresh and clean new season. It was a beautiful spring that year. Every so often a day like that comes back and I am reminded of posing for our picture together.
Arbinger Institute (2010-01-11). Marquis Shoreline (MS) is a place where I once resided for nearly two-years. During that time-span, I experienced burglary to one of my garage spaces and an infestation of bugs in my apartment every time someone moved out of the places nearby. Regardless, of the issues I experienced (i.e. loud music, neighbors arguing, assistant managers lies, burglary, scratches on my car), I always paid on time and reported things that needed maintenance or managements attention, but did not receive the same courtesy from the workers of this organization.
Unfortunately, it was a dark and cold rainy day which made it difficult with the rain soaking our clothes and all of our equipment. But aside from that, the rain didn’t seem to bother me or anyone else for that matter. Instead we had a slight appreciation for the rain, as if it was mimicking the melancholy feeling that we felt. It always seemed as if our camping trip couldn’t come soon enough, and then when it finally did arrive it was as if it was gone too soon. As the rain started to pour down we loaded everything in the car as fast as we could and we gathered ourselves inside. We watched out the back window as we drove away from the campground, seeing it dissipate in the distance. On our ride home we all felt a little nostalgic and talked about favorite memories of the trip and what we’d do next year. The drive was about 3 hours away from our house and somewhere along the way I fell asleep on Alicia’s shoulder while listening to Taylor Swift. I remember feeling as if I was still drifting in the soft waves of the water, and the thought of that relaxed me into a peaceful sleep. When I finally arrived at home I rushed into the living room where my parents were waiting on the couch to hear all about the awesome experiences I had on my trip. After that I went into my room to call Alicia, and we stayed on the phone with each other while we marked our calendars together to begin the countdown for our camping trip next
Pressure can force people into doing deranged actions. When innocent people plead guilty or make incriminating statements the main reason is because they feel guilty or know more inside information. There have been many cases in which an innocent person was secretly blackmailed or forced into pleading guilty. The mental state of a confessor is also vital in knowing the truth. Confessions from juveniles is usually unreliable because most of the time they don’t understand the situation completely and they can also be manipulated easier than an adult could. Mentally capable adults confess when they’re innocent for a variety of reasons, exhaustion from excessive interrogation,a belief that they could be released if they confessed,or that they truly do feel guilty. Pressured confessions are less common, but there have been cases. False confessions are a hazard in trial cases and can also give an innocent person a cruel sentence.
