Debbi Fields, born in Oakland, California on September 18, 1956, had always

loved baking cookies since she was a child. Not only did she love baking cookies, but she

also loved the satisfaction she gained from those who ate her cookies. Even when she was

young, she began her first job and used that money to buy ingredients for her cookies. By

the time she was 18, Fields was already known locally for her delicious cookies. She was

only a housewife who loved making cookies when she married her first husband. After

being tired of feeling down and judged when telling people she was a housewife, she

came up with a business plan to utilize her amazing skill of making cookies. On her first

day of business, no one came in to buy from Mrs. Fields Chocolate

Chippery. It was not
until she stepped outside and offered free cookies that she gained some customers. After
this event, Fields has since grown nationally and internationally. She later decided to
change the name to Mrs.

Fields Cookies so that she was not limited to just chocolate chip

cookies. It was not always easy, however. Since she did not franchise her stores and

locations, Fields found some trouble financially. She is still the company’s largest

shareholder, but she had to give away 80 percent of the company to lenders so that she

could keep her business alive. Fields continues to hold high standards for her cookies and

her employees. Customer satisfaction is her number one priority. If the cookies are not

perfect, she might close the shop for the day until the cookies are better. Her employees

must be kind and hardworking, and before being hired, she puts them through a series of

three tests. Her employees are viewed as an extended family. With her high standards,

Fields donates each cookie in all her stores that are still on the rack after being two hours

out of the oven to a local charity. Debbi Fields excels because she works hard, holds the

upmost of standards, and never gives up. Simply through perseverance and innovation,

Debbi Fields has grown to become a powerful woman with delicious cookies satisfying

customers all around the world every day. She is one of the most successful women

business and continues to stay humble from beginning to end. Nothing could be done
better or differently to create the great empire that Debbi Fields has today. With her

Fields has also written an autobiography and several cookbooks. Her

cookbook named “Mrs. Fields Cookie Book: 100 Recipes from the Kitchen of Debbi

Fields” was the first of her cookbooks to make it number one on the New York Times

bestseller list. Fields also conducts seminars and has made several appearances on

television. She also sits on boards of Outback Steakhouse, EmergeMemphis, and the

Orpheum Theatre.

Debbi Fields is the youngest of five daughters. Her father was welder and her

mother was a housewife. Her first job at the age of 13 was a ball girl for major league

baseball. As a teenager she went to high school at Alameda High School in Alameda,

California. When she graduated, Fields went to Foothill College. She was only 19 when

she married her first husband. Randy Fields, her first husband, was a Stanford graduate.

Together, they have five children named Jessica, Jenessa, Jennifer, Ashley, and

McKenzie. After divorcing Randy Fields, Debbi Fields remarried Michael Rose. She

now lives with her husband and five daughters in Memphis, Tennessee. Along with

baking cookies, Fields loves to hang out with her family. She is a Christian and to listen

to Christian music. Her family is fully supportive of her and, of course, they love her

cookies.
