Everyone, no matter what you do in your life, has a routine. A lot of people do end in anger when their comfortable routine is broken, In the story, “Death of a Pig”, anger isn’t necessarily the correct emotion to describe out main character. In Mr. White’s experience, he gradually opened to one of the worst types of changes that a farmer could experience, a change in his animals. As his pig falls into the clutches of death, Mr. White opens his opinions and evidence of change all the way through to the very end, these being separated through multiple stages. The first stage that that Mr. White notices is the stage of initial change. The initial change is when he first notices that the pig is sick. He specifically notices this through saying that, “My pig simply failed to show up for a meal. The alarm spread rapidly.” Along with this, his prior knowledge of proof of this being out of the norm. He began to call people in asking for help with pig, which grants stand to infer that he himself has no knowledge of how to treat one, meaning he’s never had one before. Not only this, but his neighbor also told him that, “I never had a sick pig.” Matters go from slightly off course to breaking the barriers as he begins to build more of an emotional connection to this pig more than the other pigs …show more content…

This occurred from the setup of the other steps. The other steps were only to build up their emotional connection and then to break it suddenly, which is only another development toward the theme of ruining a routine. The routine of helping his pig suddenly ending at the cost of his pigs life drastically affected him. One thing that proves this is when he says: “there is a blur in time here, and I may have lost or picked up a day,”. The perception of time changes in a person that falls into depression or mild sadness because the perception of time become insignificant in comparison to everything
