In a world with abortion rights issues, the Zika Virus and a declining birth rate, countries are beginning to put the pressure on their citizens to procreate for the future of their nation, but is procreation the correct solution? The birth of a child causes significant changes for the lives involved around that birth, and creates new identities for all involved: mother, father, sister, aunt, grandmother, etc., killing what they used to know about themselves and being reborn as the birth of that child dictates. The cycle of death and rebirth, both for the child and by the child, make reoccurring appearances throughout the movies ' Up, Children of Men and UltraViolet. By analyzing a wide variety of movies that deal with the Child as the ultimate …show more content…
Most individuals wouldn 't view Up, a family friendly Disney movie, as a movie of death and rebirth, but it occurs multiple times throughout the movie. The beginning of the film introduces us to the life of Carl and Ellie, two children who grow up with the image of 'adventure ' in their minds, an adventure which leads them to “Paradise Falls”, and a place that makes an interesting connection with the biblical place of “Paradise”. As their time line zips by, we discover that Ellie has become pregnant and miscarried, and as their child is mourned, they are slowly reborn through the nursery and the image of Paradise Falls in the background. They grow old together and Ellie gets sick and passes away. The story changes pace when Carl escapes from the fate of the Shady Hills Retirement Home by floating away in his house with balloons towards Paradise Falls, and a poor Boy Scout named Russell has become caught up in his travelling plans. He and Russell …show more content…
We are introduced to Theo, a man who we discover once had a son with a woman named Julian, whom is now leading pro-immigration rebel groups named Fishes. Theo 's death and rebirth occurs through Key, the refugee Julian has brought to him. Theo approaches Key in a barn/manger where he attempts to leave her and the Fishes behind and she drops her gown to show her pregnant belly. Theo decides that he must get her to the Human Project to keep her and her baby safe and is reborn as her protector. In our class reading by Paxton, we are told the importance of fertility in Greece is the “authentically Greek” children the government wants their citizens to have, and so minority children are not counted towards the growth rate of the country. (Paxton 150-151). This problem also makes an appearance in Children of Men; as one of the “Fishes” states - “The government would never acknowledge that the first human birth in 18 years is a (re)fugee 's baby” (Cuarón, Children of Men). Because of this point, a lot of suffering is endured by Theo to hide the appearance of Key 's baby because she is not “authentically British”, or even a British citizen. We can also understand this through Edelman 's explanation in No Future: “the future of the child is the future of a nation... if there is a child, there is hope, there is redemption.”
In kilner’s case study “Having a baby the new-fashioned way”, present a story that can be relatable to a lot of families struggling to have a child. This is a dilemma that can be controversial and ethical in own sense. The couple that were discussed in the case study were Betty and Tom. Betty and Tom who are both in their early forties who have struggled to bear children. Dr. Ralph Linstra from Liberty University believes that “Fertility can be taken for granted”. Dr. Ralph talks about how many couples who are marriage may run into an issue of bearing a child and turn to “medical science” to fix the issue. He discusses that “God is author of life and he can open and close the womb”. That in it’s self presents how powerful God.

As society changes around us, we spot things we never noticed before: high divorce rates, murder rates, and drug use just to name a few. James Riddley-Scott and Mary Shelley noticed and had a fear of child abandonment. In Frankenstein, Shelley explores this subject through the viewpoint of a man, Victor, who creates a child so hideous that he cannot bear to look at it, and consequently deserts it. In Blade Runner, Scott explores this matter through a businessman, Tyrell, who makes replicants of humans, the Nexus 6, gives them only four years to live, and sells them as slaves. The children of these creators turn out to be smarter and more human than expected, and revolt against the way society treats them, giving us all a lesson in parenting and child development.
In America abortion is one of the most heavily debated topics in recent years. Pro-life or pro-choice? Many people believe it is immoral and even consider abortion to be murder. The definition of abortion states “The termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to being capable of normal growth” Did you know that 1 in 3 women in the U.S. will have an abortion in their lifetime? (Baker, Aspen. "A Better Way to Talk about Abortion." Aspen Baker:. N.p., n.d. Web. 25 Aug. 2016.) When first researching this topic I wondered, “What’s the big deal? Why would it matter if someone who was never even born, died?” And I realized that babies that would have been born due to abortion,
Have you ever thought what a world without children would be? Well, from comparing both “Brave New World” and “Children of Men,” it is found that a world without children is a dystopia. In other words, it is a complete disaster and everything in the world is not how it is today. By comparing the Brave New World society and the society in the film “Children of Men,” we can establish that in both dystopias there are no children, which impacts the relationship between man and woman. War, drugs, castes are common in both dystopias, as people tend to cope drugs to get away from the reality of war caused by people of different “castes.”
hilosophers have contemplated over the subject of immortality. They question if the soul, particularly, is immortal. Although Plato writes the Meno, it is supposed to be a copy of what Socrates personally encountered and “taught” in his lifetime. Even though the Meno is originally about the search for the meaning of virtue, one perspective on the immortality of the soul is introduced to us by Socrates in that play. Therefore, what Socrates thought about the immortality of the soul in the Meno is the following: “If the truth about reality is always in our soul, the soul would be immortal so that you should always confidently try to seek out and recollect what you do not know at present” (Plato, 86b) In the beginning, Meno challenges Socrates

According to Kim (2010.02.12.), prevention of termination never means the decrease or eradication of it. The stronger we crack down the feticide, the more women do illegal and dangerous abortion because they have no choice but to do it in poor socioeconomic environment. The tragedy due to this restriction was already proved through the example of Romania. Nicolae Ceausescu, the first president of Romania, restricted abortion strongly, but women of the country went to abroad to do it, and as a result, the population of the country decreased all the more. In this regard, Kim (2009.11.20.) recommended the Romanian film ‘4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days’ which won the Palm d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2007. We must not force women to give birth anymore because unwanted pregnancy takes away too much things from them and they are also honorable main agents who have the right to choice and the right to be happy. In conclusion, we have to put termination under women’s charge, not under country’s interference. In other words, I am pro-choice and strongly urge the Korean government to legalize erasing babies from their
Adoptive parenting generally commences as a possible option, an idea that the couple entertains as serious doubts about whether they will ever be able to become biologically parents start seeping in (Blomquist, 2009). This seems to suggest that while still trying to conceive their biological child, couples may try to create the mental space to be open to the idea of accepting a child born from another couple. The intimate way in which the option of adoption is entertained mentally could mean that the decision to adopt may be taken with fear and hope at the same time. This argument resonates with the theme of mourning underscored in the article by Noy-Sharav (2002) which however, needs to be understood in the context of the self-object relations framework it adopted.
Social reproduction is the reproduction of cultural, human, and social capital in society. Therefore languages, traditions, cultural values, education, food security, and social circles are passed down from one generation to the next through Karl Mannheim’s concept of “fresh contact” and through society as a whole. Social reproduction is effective when social structures and equality within society are maintained. Inequality, poverty, and social changes that force society to adapt can impede the process of social reproduction causing what is known as a “crisis in social reproduction” (Wells, 2009). Born into Brothels demonstrates a crisis of social reproduction that negatively impacts the lives of children living in Sonagachi as a result of globalization, neoliberal policies, poverty, lack of adequate education and social structures to pass down capital, and the stigma of prostitution. Additionally, it shows the need for children to make economic contributions to their families that prevent them from leaving the brothel.
Interpretive reproduction basically states that children affect and are affected by everything in society. Recent changes in in the Western societies is a perfect example of this. Interpretive reproduction begins in the family and as the child continue to grow, they create peer cultures based on what they see in society. What they see at home, at school, and or on TV, it all influences them. Although it’s sometimes forgotten, in any research study, a child’s perspective is imperative. Sometimes a child’s perspective is neglected because some adults don’t take the time to realize what day to day issues a child may be facing. My advice to any adult that’s unsure about the concept of interpretive reproduction in children’s peer culture or how a new experience or environment could affect a child should definitely put themselves in the child shoes. Ask yourself how your child will be recognized and
Reflecting on Meilaender’s reading procreation is defined as a loving act between spouses which prepares for a possible creation by God of a new person. On the other hand, reproduction is the process by which living things replicate, to assure the continuity of their generation with the assistance of human-made practices and todays new technologies. For example, artificial insemination, in vitro fertilization (Meilaender, 2013).
Some people would be surprised to hear that every 30 seconds a family decides to abort their child; every hour 120 families choose to abort their baby; there have been a total of 56.5 million abortions in the U.S between the years on 1973-2013. Statistics show that many families are deciding to abort their children because they claim that they either aren’t ready to have a child, the child will interfere with their work, or schooling, or that they don’t have enough money to support their child,so they decide to abort the baby. But, another problem that the U.S has been leading into, is deciding to have an abortion as late
