It is official; Kobe Bryant, age 37, will retire at the conclusion of the 2015-2016 season. Bryant will be capping off a legendary 20 year tenure with the National Basketball Association’s Los Angeles Lakers.
Many people within the sports world knew he was soon to retire due to father time and a combination with a series of injuries. Kobe put the speculation to end on Nov. 29, when he posted a poem on the popular sports website, The Players Tribune titled “Dear Basketball”.
It should not come to a shock to anyone; Bryant played the most years with one team and is considered one of the greatest Lakers of all time. Five time NBA champion, two time NBA Finals MVP, one time MVP, seventeen time All-Star selection and two time NBA scoring champion are just a few of his accomplishments that he

Although, some NBA fans dislike him because he denied their favorite team’s chances of winning, however, those same fans appreciated his work ethic and success.
Bryant’s poem described his love affair of basketball and the inevitable end. By six years old, his passion was deep for the game. He states in his poem, “I never saw the end of the tunnel. / I only saw myself / Running out of one.”
Bryant played the game with a lot of effort and his work ethic was second to none. He played for his favorite team the Los Angeles Lakers his entire career and gave his body to the game, sustaining many serious injuries in his career. Due to those injuries, that includes a torn Achilles tendon, Bryant saw that the end was near.
The Los Angeles Lakers have failed to surround Bryant with the necessary pieces to bid for a championship this year.
They are out of the playoff race and the organization have garnered criticism within the sports world. Bryant is not the same player he was ten years ago but fans will continue to watch Lakers games to see the player they love play out his last
The poem ends with a dejected Flick standing at Mae’s Luncheonette contemplating his past and imagining the way things could have been. Updike closes the poem with this negative tone to reinforce the message of the poem. Flick Webb had the opportunity to make something of his life. He chose to play basketball rather than focus on his education. He was not good enough to play basketball at the professional level. But because he did not study in high school, he did not have other opportunities after he graduated. Updike is sending an important message to all high school athletes. Obtaining a high school education is more important than being the star of the team.
Russell was unique in the sense that he was one of the few athletes to coach and play for the same team at the same time. And more than that, he did it successfully. For the last three years as a Bos...
The NBA is well known for the number of amazing professional athletes it has had over the years. Some of the most gifted and talented individuals come through the NBA and one of the better-known superstars is none other than Kobe Bryant. For years people have wondered what makes Bryant so successful. The main contributors that lead to Kobe Bryant’s success is his hard work and dedication, his mindset, his natural ability’s and talent, and the people that have helped him throughout his life. Kobe Bryant was very successful in the NBA because of the amount of hard work he has put in, the people in his life, his relentless determination and his god given natural abilities.
Lebron James and Kobe Bryant are two of the most explosive players in the NBA today. Each player has his own playing style that separates him from the rest of the league. Both players have their own career achievements, endorsements, and personal life stories behind the game. If you ask anybody, the comparison between these two players is great. It is a never ending debate between who is better because both players have something different to bring to the table. Side by side on paper, both players seem dominant and may one day end up in the basketball hall of fame. But as individuals, side by side, each has a different but similar life.
In an article, College basketball's so-called one-and-done rule needs revisiting, Dylan Hernandez quotes Kobe Bryant, "It didn't make any sense. " Kobe doesn't say anything more about this because I think it kind of speaks for itself. Kobe Bryant, did not go to college, he went to the NBA right out of high school and now look where he is at now. I'm not saying that all one and done players are going to be NBA stars, but at least we can give them a chance.
He is the only player in the NBA history to average at least 30 points in a season. After he retired from the Lakers he started coaching volleyball and basketball and he was put in the volleyball Hall of Fame. Wilt Chamberlain was considered one of the greatest and most memorable players in the NBA. One of his tragedies was his death at age 63.
It’s one of the greatest debates right now in modern time sports. Who is the greatest basketball player ever? Is it His Airness, or is it King James? The debate on whether Michael Jordan or LeBron James is the greatest basketball player ever is a prevalent topic in sports news daily. Many people believe that LeBron James is the greatest basketball player to be currently playing and also the greatest player to ever have played in the NBA. My theory, however, is that rather than LeBron James, the greatest basketball player to ever have played the game is Michael Jordan. Although I agree with the claim that LeBron James is the best current player in the NBA, I believe that he is nowhere near being considered better than Michael Jordan.
First, let me start off with the career of Kobe Bean Bryant who is currently on the Los Angeles Lakers. Kobe was first drafted into the NBA in the year 1996 by the Charlotte Hornets, but was later traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. The most amazing part about him being drafted was that
One of the subjects that was pondered was what makes Kobe Bryant a hero, not a villain, as some see him. How can I prove he is a hero? Many see him as an amazing basketball star, but few actually understand how Kobe is. He is different, he is special. Few athletes and people in this world have what he has. He has a love and passion and fire for the game of basketball. I mean, sure it is just a game, and sure, he enjoys the millions of dollars he made and continues to make. However, that passion is a rare gift, and it's what makes Kobe special. Nobody in the NBA has the same heart. Kobe would have went through his entire career without a single cent, because he loves the game. Ever since he was small, he's had a love for the game. One prime example of his love
Kobe Bryant has had quite a substantial effect on the NBA throughout his illustrious career .He came into the league as a renowned high school player and thanks to him being drafted by a big franchise in a big city (Los Angeles Lakers) and having a superstar often compared to superman to mentor him (Shaquille O’Neal) Kobe would eventually evolve into a superstar forever remembered in NBA history due to his prolific scoring, competitive spirit and ability to perform under pressure. There is no denying Kobe’s status as a legend however, simply put, LeBron has achieved as much Kobe did when he was Lebron’s current age (Lebron is six years younger) and he excelled where Kobe failed to succeed. LeBron didn’t have a mentor to back him up, he didn’t have a big market to support him financially, but that didn’t stop him from bringing his mediocre teams and himself to greatness. Kobe may be a fierce competitor however, he achieved this feat at the expense of his teammates respect for him while LeBron on the other hand, is competitive while still being a great teammate. To conclude, due to the fact LeBron paralleled Kobe’s strength and exceeded where Kobe was weak , he is a more impactful player of this era than Kobe Bryant
Kobe Bryant will have loads of options as soon as he’s finished with playing Basketball this Wednesday. Whether he stays in the game or not, Kobe Bryant will be a huge name that will draw no matter what. Just because he won’t be playing anymore doesn’t mean we’ve heard the last of Kobe
After winning his third consecutive NBA championship, at the pinnacle of his career, Michael Jordan, on October 6, 1993, announced his retirement from the NBA. The entire sports world was in complete shock. Jordan stated, that he had accomplished everything he wanted, winning three straight world championships, he had no more to prove in the game of basketball. Jordan stated that he simply “lost his desire to play the game” leading him to retirement, when most least expected it. Although, it was not all smooth sailing for Michael, he had to persevere through various challenges throughout his career.
One of NBA’s all time All Star favorites, Michael Jordan, was not just about basketball all his life. Experiences in his childhood and early teens brought him to that life. His actions as an adult got him to where he is now...a millionaire. Michael Jordan was one of the best basketball players who had some bumps in his life, but overcame them to become a successful man.
Additionally, Bryant joined the all-star team in just his second season in the league, therefore becoming the single youngest player to be part of the all-star team of all time (“Bryant, Kobe” 1) at just 19 years old (Kobe at 30--Oh, how the years go by 2). Surprisingly, these achievements would not be the only ones he would acquire. By 2003, Bryant had already captured 3 NBA titles for himself (“Bryant, Kobe” 1), winning three titles in a row from 2000 to 2002 (Kobe at 30-- 2), and these would surely not be his last.... ... middle of paper ... ...
is going to go through the life stages just as he says. I think that for the time
