I have never seen Dead Man’s chest, but reading your very descriptive detail of Depp’s character on his train ride, I can see the picture like I was watching it. I completely agree with your description of what the director was trying to do with cutting to different parts of Depp’s surrounding. If it was us looking around, that is how it would look on our view. Looking here and there, is like watching snapshots of your environment and what’s going on around us. Seeing if anything is interesting on the boring ride, as Nicole described. As for the colors of the environment lacking colors, that makes sense as it is a boring ride.
