The book “Dead Girls Don’t Lie” by Jennifer Shaw Wolf, and the lyrics of the song Air by Shawn Mendes feat. Astrid to me kind of conveys the same theme. I think the theme of both of these could be, the ones we never thought would hurt us can do the most damage. In both the book and the song there is two people in a relationship and something happens. They don’t mean to hurt the other person but they do. They both thought that the other one would never hurt them.
I think this theme occurs all the time in real life and is important to understand. People understand things in different ways and putting this message/theme into multiple genres will help more people receive the message the author or artist is trying to get across. Putting the theme into different genres also conveys the message with more or less and in different ways. In the book you have to put more detail into the story. This could help the reader or confuse them. With a song it’s shorter and straight to the point. For some people this is easier other need the story with more information.

In the book the theme takes the whole book to develop.

The mission of Girls Inc, as stated on their website is, “to inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold” (girlsinc.org, 2014). The vision of Girls Inc is “empowered girls and an equitable society,” (girlsinc.org). Girls Inc. has also developed a Girls Bill of Rights, which states that the girls have the right to: “1) be themselves and resist gender-stereotypes, 2) express themselves with originality and enthusiasm, 3) take risks, to strive freely, and to take pride in success, 4) accept and appreciate their bodies, 5) have confidence in themselves and to be safe in the world, and 6) prepare for interesting work and economic independence” (girlsinc.org).
Using the murder of Dee Ann’s mother as a means to intertwine the lives of the characters together, Steve Yarbrough examines the nature of relationships in “The Rest of Her Life.” The relationships in the story take a turn after Dee Ann’s mother is killed, with characters seeking to act more on their own, creating distance between many relationships throughout the story. Independent lifestyles prevent emotional bonds that hold relationships together from forming, thus preventing the characters from maintaining healthy relationships. The dysfunctional relationship present between Dee Ann and Chuckie in “The Rest of Her Life” is the result of the characters ' desire for self-gratification.
The poem "Bitch" by Carolyn Kizer describes the heartache in which most women get out from her former lover, who she had not seen in a long time. The tone of the poem is sad because of the horrible things about her relationship. She describes herself from the outside, pretending that everything are okay, "Fine, I’m just fine, I tell him". However, in her inside, she is fighting and struggling with her feelings, wanting to curl up to him, remembering their time together. An example of this is when she says, "She wants to snuggle up to him, to cringe" . getting to the end of the poem she left and felt indifferent about this man. Another metaphors that Carolyn
Only through the eyes of the innocent will the world be seen as it is, not how it should be. So often we are driven by our desires to have the best and to be the best, that we lose sight of what we have become, of who we have become. Our main concern is the welfare of ourselves and that of our kin. As time progress and technology tests its limits, mankind will follow suit, however, where will we draw the line in losing touch with our humanity? In the short story written by George Saunders “The Semplica Girl Diaries”, it tells of a middle-class family of six in the near distant future that is making ends meet but strives to provide a more accommodating life whilst competing with a family that is well off. The story is told by the father as he

“Earth people will beat out any other intelligent life-form in any and all competitions” is a theme, but “good always beats evil” is one too. “Once upon a time . . . ” stories have themes too, except they are more one-dimensional. For example,... ...

For Boyden, his girlfriend was all this. Boyden’s decision to put so much trust into her despite “...some of my friends said she didn’t deserve me” should've caused him to rethink doing so. When one is in love, they often overlook the flaws of their partners. While Boyden was oblivious to them, his friends could easily see those flaws. If Boyden had made the decision to listen to the advice of his friends, this entire incident could of been avoided. Nevertheless, the break up was sudden and came as a huge shock to Boyden who never expected it. To see someone whom he regarded as his reason for living suddenly abandon him caused a sudden spiral into depression. It is also during this time where we see Boyden jump in front of an oncoming car to attempt to end his life. This decision is the most impacting one which would have lifelong effects. Although Boyden could of seeked the support of family and friends, his choice to instead end his life shows how he had became “...too scared to live”. One can infer from this that Boyden no longer trusted people as of what happened with his girlfriend. Still reveling in the shock, his delusional mind probably thought that everyone would abandon him
Deborah Tannen’s essay, “There Is No Unmarked Woman”, explores the idea of “marked” and “unmarked” words, styles, titles, and how females have no ability to choose an unmarked position in life. She posits that “The unmarked forms of most English words also convey ‘male’” (88). Tannen is incorrect in her premises because females are able to choose unmarked hair and clothing styles, men are marked just as often as women, and many unmarked forms of words no longer convey “male.”
Amanda had gone out the night before with her niece for a late birthday celebration. Joe had the kids that night, so Amanda though it would be a good idea to go celebrate since she hadn’t the night of her birthday. They went to a few bars and were having a great time. Amanda went home that night and sat down to watch some TV in her apartment. She got sick and went to go hurl in the toilet. She passed out and suffocated herself with the toilet seat. The next day Amanda didn’t show up to work and they were all so confused, because she never missed a day of work. One of Amanda’s co-workers, and friends, knew that Joe had the kids and that she went out the night before. She had called Joe asking if he knew where she was and he said no. She asked him to go check the apartment, so he did. It was locked and he didn’t have a key. He ended up calling the cops and they came over and kicked the door in and they all started looking around. Joe ended up finding her in the bathroom and he froze. He says it was the most peaceful, horrible sight he has ever seen. He loved Amanda to death and that just broke him. I honestly don’t think he will ever love another woman in his life. The love of his life was just ripped away from
Egon Schiele was an Austrian painter born in 1890 known for his paintings that provoked symbolism, and also for his very different artistic styles. According to The Art Story, “Schiele’s portraits and self-portraits helped re-establish the vitality of both genres with their unprecedented level of emotional and sexual directness and use of figural distortion in place of conventional notions of beauty.” Schiele was a fan of Gustav Klimt, and in his first paintings someone can see the similarities between Klimt and Schiele. Egon Schiele’s painting, Death and the Maiden, exhibits the same design elements as Klimt’s paintings. The similarities can be seen how the figures in Schiele’s painting are consumed by their clothes, and by the very abstract
The Lisbon Girls passively suffer through their lives, never fighting against their world, on the contrary, Esther actively fights back against her world and creates conflict within her own mind. Together these novels reveal the roles of passivity and action in modern day suffering. Mrs. Lisbon and the stereotypes of white suburbia challenge the Lisbon girls. Unfortunately, their extremely passive father and the narrators of the novel will not take any sort of action to save them. Mrs. Lisbon commands Lux Lisbon, the most rebellious of the sisters, to “destroy all of her rock records” (Eugenides 138). Lux “[appeals] for Mrs. Lisbon’s mercy” for “album after album”, until she loses them all to her mother’s authority (Eugenides 138). After Lux’s
