Think about a time where you were in a car crossing a big farmland and you see green plants surrounding you with a slow breeze swaying the leaves and farm animals grazing around. You then wonder how the plants are so healthy and green. This can be because the farmers are using DDT. You might be asking yourself now what is DDT? It is a colorless, tasteless, and almost odorless crystalline chemical compound, an organochlorine, originally developed as an insecticide that can benefit Plants In some ways. And when I say that it can benefit plants, I mean that it helps growing crops, curing diseases, and can be used often because it is cheap. Now I will tell you how DDT is beneficial.
One of the ways DDT is beneficial to use humans is because it cures diseases. From the article “Typhus” it says “DDT comes in a form of a vaccine and helps cure typhus.” Now I have just shown that DDT can cure Typhus(a type of disease) and can stop spreads of disease in which another person can get the disease. From the article “The Magic of DDT” it quotes “Malaria, a type of disease, can start in one place but can spread around the world through mosquitoes if nobody dealt with it. The insecticide DDT though can stop spreading malaria by killing the mosquitoes that are carriers which transmit the disease. To sum it all up, this paragraph was to show

“DDT is indeed a very cheap and highly effective pesticide.,” Kemm said. (Conservative Spotlight). This cheap pesticide can help people cut down on their expenses and use their money for something else.“This cheap insecticide is saving lives and making an impact on the environment” (DDT Returns). The quote shows that DDT is very inexpensive and you can buy more DDT if it is at an affordable price and while doing that you are helping the world. In conclusion, DDT is a chemical at a modest price and lets you use your money wisely and companies can buy more supply of
David Suzuki's essay "It Always Costs" explores why technological advancements made in our society are not always in our best interest. He refers to DDT as an example of why some technologies can actually have detrimental effects that will eventually outweigh the benefits they provide. Our heavy use of DDT in the past has caused numerous ecological problems like biomagnification that caused heavy bird mortality. Which is something we could not have predicted would happen. He then tries to come up with a solution to this problem by suggesting we create a panel with many different interests to do a cost/benefits analysis of all new technologies. But no such system can be relied on because our predictive and testing capabilities will always be
By the name of “superspecies” we try to change the world feature and control the nature with science. With science, a lot of technology has been invented to support people demand for products. Without anticipation about the bad consequences, sometime the invention is causing more damaged than it provide in later on. In 1930, DDT that use for killing insect was discovered by Paul Mueller, working for the chemical company Geigy in Switzerland. For this reason, the benefits of using DDT became immediately obvious (65). Years letter, the unbelievable side effect of using DDT was found. While Biologists investigated the decline of eagles and hawks, they discovered the hitherto phenomenon of “biomagnification”, which compounds gather as they are ingested up the food chain (67). DDT phenomenon proves that thinking like science is only to understand the world in separate pieces. It is lack of understanding the rhythms, patterns and cycles of the nature. Therefore, we need to think beyond the science to see the connections between us and nature because in the reality this world is the world of
The pesticide DDT banned in 1987 was a detrimental to the environment leading to it to be banned in 1987. DDT remains in the soils for a long period of time. The chemicals affect the ecology of the soil and water run off causing contamination of livestock and native animals and aquatic species. Studies indicated a range of human health impacts from DDT including cancers, infertility, miscarriage and nervous system impairment. The social and economic impact of DDT use in viticulture was significant.
In his short story, “Top of the Food Chain”, T.C. Boyle effectively argues that humans are destroying their planet with chemicals and that the general consensus of the public is that it is okay. He argues this efficaciously through the use of rhetorical and satirical devices, which are used throughout his story. Overall, I agree with Boyle’s argument that DDT is an especially harmful chemical to our planet, and while it may have had a place at one time, there is no need for it any longer.
What is a pesticide?A pesticide is a chemical substance used to kill pests, especially insects. A pesticide is also referred to as a biocide. Most pesticides are applied in spray form, but occasionally you will see pesticides that are in powder or pellet form. Pesticides are used on a variety of things, anything from crops like corn, barley, and wheat, to plants like petunias, marigolds, and rhodadendrons, which are usually found in small gardens, greenhouses, and even in your backyard. What is ground water?

If I could have everyone's attention. Good-morning ladies and gentlemen. For those of you who don't know me my name is Jasmine Davenport. Today I’d like to discuss traumatic brain injury also referred to as TBI. I chose this topic because traumatic brain injury is a serious and complex injury with a broad spectrum of symptoms and disabilities. Traumatic brain injury effects people of all ages and is a major cause of death and disability worldwide. A traumatic brain injury can be caused by a blow or jolt to the head that disrupts normal functions of the brain Also, traumatic brain injury can cause physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioral affects.
...ortation of plants, fruits, vegetables, and animals. Indiscriminate pesticide use kills the good with the bad. Long term and wide spread pesticide use poisons underground water sources, which, in turn, poison plants, animals, and humans. And, finally, by our uninformed actions, new super races of pests continue to evolve and create even greater dangers than the original.
Specific Purpose Statement: To inform my audience how to insure their safety, and the safety of others, while on the road
By the time naturalists learned of DDT's effect on wildlife, it was almost too late.
In the case about Triana, Alabama, residents in a small rural settlement were exposed to high concentrations of dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) manufactured by the Calabama Chemical Company. The residents were primarily Black and were dependent on the fish in the contaminated streams for food. The people living in the area were not made aware early on that their water was
In “Hope For Animals And Their World by Jane Goodall,” in her essay, she aims to inform her audience in the way humans' actions are affecting the insects and their environment and how important they are to sustain our ecosystem through the use of literal language. In hopes that her message gets spread to the reader and they understand what is going on with the insect an example she uses is “Unfortunately the weapon of choice from the farmers and gardeners is chemicals such as pesticides which as lead a horrific damage to our ecosystem”. The people using the chemicals are the one most affecting the ecosystem which her point is that we should do something to stop it because using pesticides is not really hurting them, yes it might kill some of

Hello everyone! Today I will be speaking about global warming but before I begin, how many of you believe that global warming exists and that the human population is the primary cause of global warming? I ask this because there are people who believe that global warming does not exist or that it’s “a hoax created by China”. But that’s not true and global warming is in fact one of the biggest problems facing the world today. There is a significant amount of negative effects for the environment and for all living beings due to global warming. And maybe some of you are not be interested in global warming, but the truth is, global warming is a big part of our world and it affects each and every one of us.
