Companies have been tracking consumers without permission for a long time. This is a clear violation of privacy and therefore shouldn’t be allowed. People usually don’t know if they are being tracked so this isn’t a prevalent issue yet. Since more consumers are discovering how companies track them, more people want to get rid of it.

Tracking shouldn’t be allowed in cell phone carriers because personal information of customers is being accessed by companies. The companies are retrieving data of strangers for the products benefit. According to document one “ Details about your habits, your age, and gender are compiled and can be sold to third parties.” This quote shows how much private information is actually being leaked. It is used in some stores when a person shops which is a violation of privacy, as well. According to document 2, the EyeSee Mannequins are “ the perfect tool, able to sit innocently at store entrances and windows, leaving shoppers oblivious to their hidden cameras.” Unlike the cell phone carriers, shop owners don’t seem to tell the customers about the tracking in the mannequins. People are unaware that these mannequins are currently finding out all of their information. The customer doesn’t have any privacy even during a fun activity. Another example is “ manufacturer of the EyeSee mannequins is currently working on adding ears to the mannequin, allowing them to record people’s comments in order to further the shopping experience. “ If they do add ears, it is a direct invasion of privacy and personal information will be even more exposed. It won’t just be basic information being listened into. Now, storekeepers can listen in on conversations that could be a secret. According to document three, “RFID readers will be able to scan every item as the customer exits the store and charge an RFID credit card, thereby simultaneously increasing efficiency and possibly reducing shoplifting. “ An RFID is a radio frequency device that identifies objects through tags. Consumers could see this as a pro because the time it takes to shop is much shorter. People don’t want to be waiting on line to check out. They can just get their items checked out immediately when they leave the store with a RFID tag. Another example found in document 1 is “ The information is predominantly used as a marketing tool so advertisers can target you with products or services that you are most likely to use or want. “ Some people want tracking because they believe that their shopping experience will be faster and more relevant.
