The Government has been a crucial part of society. Without the government, society would fall into total chaos where there are not any laws, or any form of protection for the Citizens. With a totalitarian government, the citizens are slaves to the government; not able to have any form of freedoms, with very strict unyielding laws. The relationship between the state and the citizen should be where the people have more power than the government, but the government has enough power to protect the citizen’s rights.

The citizens should have the power to rebel and change the government, if they see a defect in the system. People shape the government, so the people should be able to make changes or completely revolutionize their government. For example, In source E Vowell states that, “A true American Patriot is by definition skeptical of the government” (Source E). A person that cares about their nation would be willing to question their government and not always agree with the system. The government should not be so powerful that no one can disagree with its policies. If it becomes too powerful,

people’s rights would be revoked. This can be seen in source F, Where the author describes a type of government in her country that said , ”All bilingual schools must be shut down.They are a source of capitalism” (Source F). The government should not be able to take people’s rights of learning more than one language, or education in general, as people’s rights have been limited. That is where the government becomes too powerful and when change become indispensable.
One of the main functions of the government should be to preserve the rights of its citizens.

The rights to have the freedom of life ,liberty and the pursuit of happiness. As in source C, Abraham Lincoln says , “Our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal”(Source C). The Citizens right of being free should always be protected by the government. The people should be able to vote and elect officials in government to help maintain citizens’ rights. As these officials help makes laws that impact the citizens’ life .War should be voted on by the citizens That way the citizens do not feel that their entitled right of freedom is being compromised. The government would be securing or protecting the citizens right of life and liberty. Which is the main aspect of the

government.
False propaganda should not be utilized by the government, especially in means of deception. The citizens or the people should be conscious of what is happening around them. The state or the government should be sincere with its citizens so the government would not be abusing its capabilities. If the citizens are cognizant of their surroundings, then the government would not have a large amount of power over the citizen. Usually when deception is being employed the state is trying to attain more power. For example in source A, Kincaid says, “ We were meant to understand that England was our source of myth and source from which we got our sense of reality … of what was meaningful”, (Source A). In source A, the author explicates how England and its government deceived her people telling them that England was so great, when in reality it was all untrue. England was trying to gain more power.

In conclusion, the relationship between the government and the citizen should be that the citizen is more powerful than the government. The citizen is able to have control over the government, by revolting so it does not exceed its abilities. The people would be able to vote for officials, and vote for different aspects such war. That way their rights are preserved. And furthermore, false propaganda in hopes of deception should not be put upon citizens. This helps limits the government and preserve the rights of its citizens.
