The History of Microwave Radiation, its Common Uses, and its Effects on Human Anatomy
Overview Beyond our earthbound lives exists a firmament of endless wonder, filled with waves and particles unfathomable to the human eye. Ultraviolet, infrared, and radio waves permeate our atmosphere from beyond our space and time. These include microwaves. From their origins at the Big Bang, the pulses of these waves can still be observed to this day. This primordial radiation can be utilized for multiple things, from cooking food to military radar. Despite this, direct exposure may be harmful to organic life. The exact effects of prolonged exposure to radiation may depend on the form and frequency of said radiation. Regardless, ancient light, in the form of microwaves, blesses our daily lives, while simultaneously providing an unseen risk. Multiple forms of radiation can be found in our everyday lives. We, as a society, have harnessed these waves for technological improvements over recent history; the last two centuries have seen a stark increase in technologies using different forms of radiation. For example, the late 19th Century saw the discovery and study of radio waves. While being studied by Heinrich Rudolf Hertz, these waves donned the title of “Hertz Waves” (Doc, “How Henrich Hertz Discovered Radio Waves”). Radio waves are now used in a

Radio waves exist in a frequency range of 3 kHz (kilohertz) to 300 GHz (gigahertz). Microwaves take up the higher intensities of this range, from 300 MHz (megahertz) to 300 GHz, however, commercial microwave ovens usually average around 2.45 GHz. (Cheung, “Frequency of a Microwave”). Because microwaves are simply intense radio waves, they can be used for communications, just as radio waves can. In fact, the waves used for cell phones and wireless internet are actually microwaves. The versatility of microwaves can range from garage door openers to particle
Apart of becoming a new patient at a dental office is taking an x-ray and some may have question along with taking an x-ray, like “will I be affected by the x-ray?” or “will I get cancer?”, “how long will it take” “are x-ray’s safe?”, the list goes on and on. So in this paper we will talk about different types of radiation affects such as affects on children and pregnant women as well as some things that may help reduce some of the radiation that may harm the human body.
In 1917, a young female right out of high school started working at a radium factory in Orange, New Jersey. The job was mixing water, glue and radium powder for the task of painting watch dials, aircraft switches, and instrument dials. The paint is newly inventive and cool, so without hesitation she paints her nails and lips with her friends all the while not knowing that this paint that is making them radiant, is slowly killing them. This is the life of Grace Fryer. Today there are trepidations on the topic of radiation from fears of nuclear fallout, meltdowns, or acts of terrorism.
Radiation therapy is the utilization of radiation in order to treat diseases like cancer as well as to detect other ailments that someone may have. Since the development of radiation therapy many advancements have been made both to the process of using radiation itself, which in turn increased its effectiveness for medical use, and to the study of other possible uses for radiation. The concepts behind radiation therapy are not overly complicated, but they are still revolutionary ideas that have greatly impacted society and people’s wellness.
Radiation has always been in everyday life even before Roentgen discovered x-ray. The mountains give off natural radiation, other forms of radiation are coal burning power plants, x-rays from a TV, and an airplane ride. The average dose from background radiation is about 360 mrem every year. There are two types of radiation, nonionizing and ionizing radiation. Examples of nonionizing radiation are microwaves and radio waves broadcasting. Ionizing radiation refers to gamma and x-rays. Ionizing radiation means that the rays are able to remove an electron from the atom then ions can be formed. The ions can cause damage when reacting with other atoms. Cells are able to be repaired if low dose are received. However, if cells get a high dose, the cells will be damaged or possibly die. If the cell is damaged permanently then it is referred to as a mutated cell.
Cancer has become a very common illness world wide for any age but mostly affecting adults. One can get cancer from different places in the body that is why there are so many people with cancer, because of all the different types. Cancer can affect any gender, female or male, and any age. It varies from ovarian cancer to prostate cancer, skin cancer to lukemia. Cancer has been a problem for many years yet we have not found a cure to treat and prevent cancer. If one is affected by cancer there are treatments to help take away this illness affecting their body. This essay is about a specific type of treatment for cancer, radiation therapy. There are different types of forms of particles for radiation, for example, protons and waves like x-rays and visible light. These types of radiations are grouped on how much energy they contain because it can cause different affects. A low type of energy radiation can be radio waves and heat, also known as non-ionizing radiation. Ionizing radiation has enough energy to break chemical bonds and knock electrons out of atoms, some examples of these are x-rays and ultraviolet light rays from the sun. That is why radiation is a way to treat cancer because of the strong energy it has to destroy a cancer cell, actually any cell in the body. That’s the issue with radiation therapy, is it worth the damage? It can damage any cell, wether it is healthy or cancerous, which can cause a major affect in the body later on. Although it sounds scary there are other types of treatments such as chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, photodynamic therapy, etc. So if radiation therapy does not sound like the best there are always other options but they do not develop the same results for radiation therapy. Rad...
... our daily life and has lot of consequences. For example, we know that black surfaces absorb more thermal energy and reflect less thermal energy. Similarly, the shiny surfaces absorb less energy and reflect more energy. This is the main reason that a black car parked in the sun will heat more as compare to the white car. The process of radiation is also used in the field of medicine. Thermography is an interesting use of the radiation in the medicine. Thermograph is a scan of the picture of the body and is a photograph according to the intensity of the radiation at different places. Since diseased parts are usually more hot so thermograph shows prominent white and red spots which helps the doctors to diagnose the disease.
Analog communication employs continuous transmission of an electromagnetic wave form that varies in frequency and amplitude.
Radiation is one of the most dangerous and easiest way of having health effects. Radiation was first discovered by Roentgen. Hazards are the first things people need to know in order to understand what it can do to your body. It causes many health effects on everyone out in the world. It harms people in the dentistry and field and even in the medical field. Normal people out the world can also be exposed when coming into one of these offices and getting x-rays of some type.
Microwaves are an important part of our society. We use them in everyday life and its a commonly held in households, but there are negative effects to them. Microwave Radiation is lethal and you can get it from microwaves and other things in your everyday life. Over time things have been altered in order to keep people safe. Modifications have been made to microwaves in order to reduce the risk of microwave radiation.
By the time the 20th century arrived, vacuum tubes were invented that could transmit weak electrical signals which led to the formation of electromagnetic waves that led to the invention of the radio broadcast system (750). These vacuum tubes were discovered to be able to transmit currents through solid material, which led to the creation of transistors in the 1960’s (750).
The history of radio starts with the detection and production of the first radio waves in 1888 by a man named Heinrich Hertz. Although Hertz detected the radio wave, he was not the first to make radio equipment. Marchese Guglielmo Marconi was the first to build radio equipment; this was a device that could ring a bell from up to 30 ft. away. Soon after this radio, signals were being sent all over the world, from England to France and back! Although the first music radio transmission was not sent until 1904 in Austria! There have been dozens to try to take credit for the invention of the radio but it was given to its rightful owner: Guglielmo Marconi. Guglielmo advanced his work with creating the antenna in 1905 just a year after music radio transmission was created. Even though radio transmission was started in Italy and music was created in, Austria...
Cell phones represent a type of technology that has been around for more than over fifty years; it has only been recently that many people began to use cell phones as a major part of their everyday life. In the past cell phones were for business people to conduct their business, but in today’s society every one owns a cell phone. Cell phones are interesting, useful and also play a major role in our life’s bringing people closer and keeping in touch with one another. Most people do not know and understand the physics of a cell phone. Cell phones are also known as cellular phone, hand phone, and commonly known as a mobile phone. A cell phone is an electric device that can make and receive calls, over and automatic repeat request (radio link petrol -RLP) used over wireless air interdace.it us a portable telephone that uses and receive phone signals.it also divides that earth into small regional called cells.in the resent estimates there are over 190 million people using mobile phone. One of the primary health concerns is the impact of cell phone radiation, by radio waves by which it operates.
Today’s era, witness to astronomical advancement in the field of science and technology, bores a technology savvy generation of people. Such a generation cannot imagine a life without the technologies termed “modern”. It seems as though modern technology has become a fundamental need of human beings, not just the young but the old and children alike.
The importance of physics not only lies in the discoveries of the natural world, but in the technology in our modern lives. Today we use many gadgets in our everyday tasks, which act as convenient aids to all of our needs. Some of these little novelties are cell phones, radios, computers, lasers used in eye surgery, fiber optics used in phone lines, calculators, hearing aids, and even global positioning systems.
Cell phones are one of the greatest inventions in the world. We can imagine how life would be without cell phones. Cell phones are very handy; it can make our communication easier. Also cell phones can provide us with everything, like relaxing with music, browsing the internet, chatting on social networking sites or playing games. Unfortunately cell phones are not risk free. Using cell phones involve emission of EMR electromagnetic radiation, which is a dangerous sort of energy wave, is produce by modern appliances that surround us in everyday lives. The worst causes of EMR are cell phones. These days especially children are getting addicted to cell phones. When you are talking on your phone, there are microwaves going through your head. There has been a study on the development of brain tumors and the amount of time you take on the phone due to radio waves. However, people do not realize the consequences and negative effects cell phones cause. It causes diseases and disorders and other harmful damages to our body and health. Nevertheless, cell phones are also not dangerous.
