Our lives are made up of many good and bad moments. Sometimes life can be complicated. It can start before were ready and continues even when we are still trying to figure who we are and what we want, but even those moments are worth living because there are many more important moments filled with happiness, laughter, and love. However some people spend their life with fears and don’t learn to enjoy the important moments of their lives. The book Daytripper explains the life a man, by the name Brás de Olivas. Every chapter points out an important moment in Brás life such, as the day he met his wife Ana, the birth of his son Miguel, and the day he wrote his first novel. Even though Brás has many wonderful moments in his life, in chapter one and …show more content…
(Moon & Ba 12) In contrast to when Brás is talking to his wife Ana on the phone, the scenario is completely colorful and brighter showing Brás better mood. On the contrary the expression of boredom and sadness is shown in light blue when Brás is talking to his friend Jorge about his own personal unhappiness and frustrations as well as his complicated life and indecisiveness about his writing career. (Moon & Ba 21-22) Finally at the end of the story of chapter one, Brás is talking to the bartender and finds out he kept the name of his father on the bar despite the fact his is now dead, also nobody even knows the bartender’s real name. The background on this scene is filled with darker reds and orange colors, showing frustration and confusion in Brás mind. Then tragedy really hits when Brás is unexpectedly shot, the mix colors of red and black represent fear and death, giving the reader the emotion of being there at that exact moment, almost as if wanting to go back in time to stop this sad tragedy. In comparison to chapter ten, the background colors are completely the opposite. Shades of gray and blue create a sense of peace and calmness. When Brás is traveling on the train, darker greens …show more content…
In Chapter one Brás birthday coincides with his father’s big event. Instead of Brás being happy for his father’s success, he feels envy and frustrated that his father is taking away his special day. He also feels overwhelmed that the celebration took place at the Municipal hall that has been echoing with fathers and sons. Brás knows that his father is a well-known successful and respected writer and fears that even though he also writes and dreams of being as successful as his father, he just won’t be capable of achieving his dream and worries he will fail his father as his son. Later in the chapter Brás is at a bar in which the bartender kept the name of his father on the bar even though his father is dead. For Brás that is an act of respect and legacy and makes him reflect on his complicated relationship he has with his father. On the contrary in Chapter ten, Brás is seventy six years and has his son, Miguel, all grown up. Unlike the relationship Brás had with his father, Miguel and Brás have a close relationship. In page 241, I can see the intense feeling of love Brás has for his son as he hugs and tells him “I love you son, I’m so proud of you.” Words that Brás never heard from his father when he was alive. Also in this page Miguel gives Brás an envelope that was inside of Benedito’s copy of Brás’ first novel. It was a letter that was written the day that Brás
The themes explored in the novel illustrate a life of a peasant in Mexico during the post-revolution, important themes in the story are: lack of a father’s role model, death and revenge. Additionally, the author Juan Rulfo became an orphan after he lost
Through the use of complementary colors, she achieves great contrast. Contrasting hues develop a theme of light vs. dark, or in Liu’s case, expectations vs. reality. Dark colors are used to suggest the harsh, chaotic conditions experienced by the workers; while light, less saturated colors illustrate the calm passivity of traditional Chinese customs and ideas. The sky surrounding the stylized women contrasts greatly with the surroundings of the exhausted men. The dark hues establish heavy visual weight below the figures and the light tones of the sky create a sensation of weightlessness and help to further distinguish the fantasy like qualities. Liu also includes the application of analogous colors, primarily to make the traditional figures less dramatic and to help unify the surrounding
Both awe-inspiring and indescribable is life, the defined “state of being” that historians and scholars alike have been trying to put into words ever since written language was first created. And in the words of one such intellectual, Joshua J. Marine, “Challenges are what make life interesting; overcoming them is what makes life meaningful”. Essentially, he is comparing life to a bowl of soup. Without challenges or hardship into which we can put forth effort and show our potential, it becomes a dull and flavorless broth. But for characters in novels like Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter, and Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God, the difficulties and trials that we all must face can transfigure the mundane liquid mixture of existence into a vibrant and fulfilling gumbo. The protagonists of these works are two strong-willed and highly admirable women, who prevail in the face of overwhelming odds stacked in everyone’s favor but theirs. In their trying periods of isolation brought about by cold and unwelcoming peers, particularly men, they give their lives meaning by simply pushing forward, and living to tell the tale.
The colors used in this painting are blue, white, yellow, brown, black, green, light blue. The colors Birch used seem dark in order to relate to the storm. By making it seem dark it really captures the mood of the composition. In general the quality of light in this painting is low.
You take advantage of your life every day. Have you ever wondered why? You never really think about how much independence you have and how some of us treat books like they’re useless. What you don’t realize is that both of those things are the reason that we live in such a free society. If we didn’t have books and independence, we would treat death and many other important things as if it were no big deal. That is the whole point of Ray Bradbury writing this book.

Color is used to draw attention to important characters and objects in the painting. The red of Mary’s shirt emphasizes her place as the main figure. A bright, yellow cloud floating above the room symbolizes the joy of the angelic figures. De Zurbaran uses warm colors in the foreground. The room, used as the background for the scene, is painted in dark colors utilizing different hues of gray and brown.
Junot Diaz’s “Otravida, Otravez” postulates a perspective of life where one’s present and future always reflects their past in some way. Diaz incorporates symbolic figures to convey how a person’s past can be carried into the future. Diaz’s use of symbolic figures includes the dirty sheets washed by Yasmin, the letters sent by Virta to Ramon, and the young girl who begins working with Yasmin at the hospital. These symbolic figures and situations remind the readers that the past will always play a major role in one’s present. Additionally, Diaz’s word choice, where Spanish words appear in many different parts of the reading, suggests that indirectly, one’s past habits are not easily broken.
Everyone can pant a pretty picture of how wonderful their life may be. In fact, doing so may come with a consequences. Reading these three short stories “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson, “Shooting an Elephant” by George Orwell and a short biography by Malcolm X called “My First Conk”, set off many different emotions. I felt as these author’s wanted to me to feel in such way. I believe there is a life lesion in every life story someone has to share, no matter how small or big.
In the story, “An Hour With Abuelo” by Judith Ortiz Cofer, Arturo goes to visit his Abuelo and throughout the story realizes that he shouldn’t be so quick to judge the people that care about him because you might find them to be worth your time. This story teaches its readers that you should cherish the time you have with the people that love you. Arturo thinks to himself, “I want my mother to have to wait a little. I don’t want her to think that I’m in a hurry or anything.” (Cofer, 140) This quote proves that he realizes he has a lot in common with his Abuelo and ended up enjoying the time he had with him. Throughout the story Arturo and Abuelo realize all the things they have in common with each other. This idea brings the readers back to the thought that it is never too late to make a connection and enjoy the time you have with the people who love you.
...e that even if they are having a hard life, something beautiful will happen someday to take you out of that ugly and ordinary position, just like the arrival of the angel. Marquez demonstrates that even if someone is physically and/or mentally different, he always has beautiful aspects, just like the villagers described the old man as ugly but they called it “angel” which is a beautiful supernatural being. The story shows also that even in things we dislike or find gross, there is always something great and beautiful. Through these fictional devices, we can clearly see the theme of see the beauty in the ugly and ordinary. This story should convince many people that even if they are going through tough moments in their life, they simply have to look from an outside point of view and they will find out that there is always something beautiful in the ugly and ordinary.
People has times that they are looking forward to. The times such as childhood, schooling help lead us through our life. While this way of thinking has many positive side, we forget the appreciation of all details of the moments. We see the moments in Thornton Wilder's play “Our Town”. This play takes us to a small town in New England and we see how simple it is, to the point where we may get bored to our lives. After looking through the events in the play we might have see as big and important described as relatively simple and straightforward, we begin to question how important that these events are in our life. Not like Emily realize how much of life was ignored until death. But after death, she can see how much everyone goes through life without noticing the events that are occurring all the time.
I close this essay with a message to anyone who may be reading this or even have the same troubles as me. Life will always throw challenges in your way, you will be lost at times and even scared to death. But in the end you will prevail. “Each day of life is a gift, that is why it is called the present”
Each of us human is alone in our hearts. It is the only place that we are afraid of letting anybody in. We rarely break through the ultimate solitude, but only to reach out to the miracles beyond our world of living, to find out that the strength of love and hope have not abandoned us. Writing about the spectacularity event of life, Marquez could not help stepping in between the magical world and the reality to tell us a tale about “The handsomest drowned man in the world”- the tale of a coastal village interrupted by a man washed up to the shore.
Life is not always what a person expects it to be. O’Henry realizes this and incorporates it into his stories The Ransom of Red Chief and The Gift of the Magi. Guy de Maupassant also incorporates this theme in his story The Necklace. Unexpected things happen to everyone; the characters from these stories deal with it by ignoring it, accepting it, or facing it head on.
